- A brewery beer hall owned by the Bavarian State government! The Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in Munich, was founded in 1589 by the Duke of Bavaria, Wilhelm V. It is one of Munich's oldest beer halls. On this History Stories Special, we take a look at the logistics behind the operation - every day it welcomes up to 35 thousand guests. Historically, beer halls were often the venues for political meetings. In 1920, Adolf Hitler announced the official program of the Nazi party there, today they sell three tonnes of beer every day. The Hofbräuhaus: a place full of history and full of stories.

30 years ago, I met a Canadian couple at the hofbrtäüuhaus. We spend an enjoyable evening, chatting, drinking beer and soaking up the atmosphere. They were both goldsmiths and when we parted, they gave me a little golden tie pin to remember that day.

One of the best places that I visited in Germany. The atmosphere of Hofbräuhaus is exciting and breathes history! When I stepped in for the first time was like I had to return to an old know house. I brought good rememberings from München (my favorite city in Germany), but the HB is my big remember! I will come back soon! Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

I lived in Munich as an exchange student for 6 months and frequented this place. Great memories. Wish I'd paid a visit to the strip club haha. Also I stayed near the Olympia shopping centre and went there often - this was 2019, and I had no idea the shootings happened just three years prior.
I want to go there and try everything on the menu 😊

I was born in Munich and raised in Hanau. My father was American and my mother was born in Esslingen.
The second time I went I took my wife. It was so packed, we left. It was a shame, but it's a wonderful historic place.

HB Haus is fantastic. However, I find the Augustiner taste a little crisper.

And it’s a 30 second walk across the street to Augustiner am Platzl. Go to HB for the atmosphere, but go to Augustiner for the superior beer.
Augustiner is amazing,when I'm in Munich I love Augustiner klosterwirt, amazing in there from the wooden keg

Als Deutscher muss ich sagen, wir haben das feinste und beste Bier. Aber als ich vor ein paar Jahren nach Deutschland zurückkehrte, wurde mir klar, dass wir die schlechtesten Zwiebeln haben. Ich verstehe nicht, warum wir keine anständige Zwiebel anbauen können. Amerika hat die besten Zwiebeln. Im Vaterland angebaute Zwiebeln machen mich krank

Silly question this is a bucket list destination for me but is it possible to get gluten free items for my wife? Gluten intolerant not celiac. Otherwise I'll just go by myself :)
She can have meat/potatoes and Apfelschorle (traditional apple juice-spritzer). But no gluten free beer. Much of the food is gluten free if you avoid bread and breaded (paniert) meats.

About 3 Oz portion per person. Likely less than 100% of patrons eat meat. So maybe a 4 Oz portion? Seems about right when you are drinking a couple of liters of beer. The size of the pretzel alone would make an ample meal until you've have 3 beers... then bring out the meat!
I am pretty sure the patrons there go there for the beer, not the meat...
There are also vegetarian choices.
Not everyone eats there and not everyone who eats there eats meat. Your calculation is a bit off.
