Dr Montserrat Soler draws on fieldwork in Brazil to explain why people expend so much time and money on costly religious rituals.
She concludes with the difference between 'New Atheism' and the genuine scientific study of religion.

Obviously there’s a sense of belonging for members in Candomblé. It’s also about cultural space that rejects oppression and promotes healing. I’m impressed at how Candomblé survived over the centuries in Brazil.

The better question is - when are people going to grow out of religions?

If they have given their own permission then I would not see this as unacceptable. If not then maybe unacceptable. But at the same time watching it is not necessarily unacceptable depend if you see this a devaluing. That would depend on the person performing the sacred ritual and the person watching.
