Had this same issue (mild RPM fluctuation and not smooth shifts) in a 2018 Honda Pilot. Changed transmission fluid and it solved the issue. 3.5 quarts of ATF DW1 and 1 crush washer purchased from local Honda dealer. $60 fix. Huge thank you for the video and the others in the comments!
This fix actually works since my brothers & I own several Honda/Acura vehicles since the early 2000s. The problem is that most people drive their cars rough & barely if ever perform maintenance on their automatic transmission. Honda’s “Hondamatic” transmission is very unique since it’s a unit that closely resembles a manual transmission with multiple clutch packs. It’s basically an automated stick shift transmission. & In the past when the company released their newly designed J-series V6 in the late 1990s, the extra power & torque would destroy these transmissions (4-speeds & 5-speeds) with ease if the owner drove like an ape 🦧. Keep in mind that their Z1 transmission fluid would break down very quickly exacerbating the problem. Their newer DW-1 fluid is much better at resisting heat & breaking down. But it’s still not the best fluid for now, so I’d advise people to do a drain & fill at least once a year to keep the transmission happy.
The fact is that newer Hondas are not engineered like they were once engineered back 90's & early 20's. The only vehicles I see investing 40K or higher is 4runner, used GX460 or Sequoias.
@@desi4lyfe379 actually, newer Hondas are very durable compared to some of the older ones. I particularly enjoy the companies V6 engines. & their (in house designed) transmission designs have gotten a whole lot better.
@@desi4lyfe379 you must not remember the second gen odyssey transmissions, those things were guaranteed junk along with the 6th gen accord trans both v6 and 4 cylinder as well as the 6th gen civics as well with both trans and head gasket issues. The problems have always been there. Toyota has its own fair share of issues. I can make a video of our sister store and the amount of weeks some of their cars sit there lol
Nice video, thanks. My 2019 ridgeline was doing the same shutter at 40,000 miles… drained and filled the transmission twice with Honda six speed transmission fluid, and changed the in line filter with OEM unit. Took care of the shutter.
Put Lubegard additive in the transmission with every change and it will be as smooth as silk. No need to do the triple change! Great product, which I have used on three Odysseys, an ‘01, w/190k, an ‘06, w/240K, and my current ‘14 at 85K, none of which have ever had any sort of problems. Lubegard is the way to go, in my experience. They also make a power steering additive, which will make your system last and be smooth.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’ve done the procedure on my 99 Accord and 07 Odyssey no because of any problems just felt it was time to do some preventive maintenance. Fluid looked fine but might do it again soon. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and videos and stay safe and well 😊 Artie
Is the Honda six speed Transmission reliable keeping the fluid change every 15,000 miles I just purchased a use 2010 Acura MDX. Hoping to get 300,000 miles from it!
Thanks for the Informative video. I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey absolute which juddering/vibrating when driving. Can you please tell me if you put in 1 litre then run/drain the car or do you have to put in the 3 litres of transmission fluid x3 each time it is drained?
I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey with 85k miles and xtrans oil was replaced by Honda Dealer per the schedule. I have the same problem you talk about. How many qts of oil is required for the three time replacement.
I have a 2019 Ridgeline. In January 2023 , I noticed the gas pedal would vibrate going up hill at a steady 45mph. The tachometer needle bounces back and forth in a short span in the gauge. It has been so slight that I don’t know if I can get to act up for the dealership (I paid extra for an 8 year bumper to bumper warranty). Should I have them replace the transmission fluid or replace the torque converter ? It has 50k miles just this week. Thank you.
Hey so I would try and get a video of it see if that helps them, I would most definitely check the fluid quality and do a couple of transmission drain and fills unless if it’s very noticeable, they won’t catch it in a log which is needed for a torque converter claim.
@@BCautosolutions I had my trusty local auto repair shop change the transmission fluid in the Ridgeline, with about 50k miles on it. That did the trick! It's been 1 week since the change. No more vibration or tac needle bouncing! I will plan to do that every 2 years going forward. Also, there was another Ridgeline in the parking lot there. I asked about it, and he said it had the same problem that mine has, but had 75k miles on it, and now required that the torque converter be replaced. He said that it's a good thing that I got my transmission fluid serviced sooner. Thanks a lot for the advice!
do you think this would work for my 2013 CR-V? I just bought some Lube guard Shudder Fixx but haven't put it in yet. thanks for any advice as my Honda dealership gave me the 'we couldn't replicate the issue' line.
Yes for sure. I have seen some issues in regards to a judder and burnt transmission fluid. On yours I would do the procedure 2 times and see if it get better within a few days. If it does you know your on the right track and then perform another drain and fill maybe 5k later and change the fluid every 15k from there on.
I Know this is for the 6speed but I have a question. I have an '09 Pilot 105k (5speed) that vibrates at 70mph. Vibration is constant through the wheel and whole car actually. vibration goes away during decel or shifting into N at 70mph. It does not get worse during braking, RPMs (different gears) does not change the vibration either. All fluids have been changed with oem fluids. For trans I only did a drain and fill. Brand new tires, road force balanced and rotated several times, alignment. VCM is disabled as well. The vibration happened on the old tires and before I disabled VCM btw, Looking for any leads as to what I can check next. I work on the vehicle myself.
Even the older content is solid! Thanks! Wat about a 15 CRV EX-L with CVT transmission 80K miles unknown tranny service history, ONLY when accelerating from 70-85 mph really bad shaking / trembling and seems to lack power but shakiness and trembling goes away when no longer accelerating, ONLY during acceleration, could this be the cause?
@@4Runner21 that sounds like like an axle vibration. I would most certainly start with the fluid if it hasn’t been done recently although from what you’re saying sayings like axles which is hard for me to say without feeling it.
2013 accord hard shift into 4th. Sporadically 205k milage worth draining and refilling the trans oil? I have loved driving this the last 10 years. Need 3 or 4 more out of her.
Sorry for the long comment but I have been battling this for almost a year now. I have a 2017 Accord touring with the 6 speed transmission. I bought it used last October with 31,000 miles and I am at 42,000 now. The service records show that a honda dealer changed the transmission fluid at 29,000 miles. At around 32,000 I noticed the shudder and took the car to a honda dealer in my area. They noted the fluid was burnt so they did the TSB which included a software update and transmission flush. Now the issue is alot worse. I took it back and they sent the snapshot to the tech line but the engineers will not approve the replacement of the torque converter which by the way is still under warranty. The dealer states that they can't do anything until the engineer approves the repair. Do you have any recommendations?
I would call American Honda and just explain your situation. That would be your best bet. Yeah the tech/dealer can’t do much without someone authorizing it. By the sounds of what your saying the only thing I can see is they weren’t able to get a good snap shot of the judder or else Techline should have approved and recommended the torque converter replacement.
@@BCautosolutions I have called American Honda a few times. I have already had two case managers and the last time they made contact with me was on June the 8th. I have called in a few times since then to get an update and the agents can't get in touch with the case manager. They will not let me to change my case manager either.
@@BCautosolutions on a side note, I had the exact same issue with my 2003 v6 automatic with the 5 speed transmission and I performed the 3x fluid change. It made a huge difference with the way it shifted and the shudder went away. It eventually failed at 220,000 miles and I rebuilt the transmission. It has 250,000 now and it drives like new again.
@@christopherlowell7889 sorry to hear. I know we have some torque converters on back order so maybe that’s the issue. Hard to say. Hope it gets resolved soon.
@@BCautosolutions yeah, I'm hoping they will be able to send a better snapshot too. I have two videos uploaded on my account if you want to watch them. They are short clips mainly for audio. I recorded this noise that I hear when the engine is cold. I figured maybe the noise was related to the transmission because as soon as put the car in drive or reverse the noise goes completely away.
I have a 2015 honda pilot.the tranny was very rough and laggy so i purchased a harness that shuts off the drop 3 cylinders. So far it is like a new car,no more hesitation or shudders!! Its a lot pepier now!!
I just got ‘15 as well - thinking on getting the S-VCM . Having shudder issue between 20-30mph- and then intermittent mild vibrations under seats/console 30-65 mph . The used car place I got it from replaced rear driveshaft, then they wanted to do rear CV axles, now they’re trying to throw in a new rear Differential (all this stuff is covered under them or they’re putting through warranty ) I’m just not confident the rear differential is the culprit . I will Show them this video and see if they can do the flush 3x and not with their flush system.
Great video. I’ve got a 2017 ridgeline 6 spd with a vibration more in the rear. I can really feel it at low speeds but can really hear it at higher speeds. Any help would be appreciated
Remains. Nothing in the brakes or engine like transmission problems. No noise when I turn figure 8. Actually no noise at all period. Tires look good no bulges or anything like that. Could it possibly be ujoint or drive shaft related?
@@jasonfleming2086 I would suspect driveshaft, wheels, tires. Maybe remove driveshaft to eliminate that. Also have the tires road force balanced to check to see how true they are while checking for vent wheels at the same time. That would be my first thoughts. Secondly if your in a high rust area possible if brakes where done recently some rust could have fell on hub and jammed between hub and rotor. Let me know how it turns out. 👍🏻
I have a 2021 CRV certified used. CVT transmission. I have had it for about a year so far. It has 44350 miles. 40000 miles when purchased. I decided to have the CVT fluid changed. I brought it to the Honda dealership where I purchased it. This is going on three weeks ago. Since the fluid was changed I’m experiencing the judder as I drive. Before this it was smooth riding. One day I passed a vehicle and stepped down on the accelerator. The whole vehicle started shaking. Then when I let up on the gas I started to smell trans fluid for about two or three minutes. A little over a week ago I brought it back to the dealership. The had it all for not more than 15 minutes. Then said they found nothing wrong, not even any leaks. They first try to say it was probably the tires needed balancing . I put new tires on a year ago. I’m retired so the tires only have 4000 miles on them. I have not hit anything. Then they said maybe the brakes. I had the oil changed last month. The shop I deal with said brakes were fine. I’m bringing to the auto repair shop tomorrow to have them do an independent analysis. But this judder or vibration was not there before the CVT fluid change.
Thanks for this video! I've got the shudder on my 2013 Odyssey Touring (86K miles). Always been serviced at the dealership and they've only recommended a fluid change once. Just ordered the Honda (12 qts) fluid and a new filter to give your recommendation a shot. FYI, once the van is warm the shudder goes away (not sure if that's a normal symptom.)
@@BCautosolutions Worked like a champ doing the x3 drain-and-fill on my '13 Odyssey Touring. Only "problem" was I could not keep the fluid from splashing out of the catch pan (and I have a big one!) while the tranny was draining. No big deal--had splatters to wipe up on the garage floor but that was about the worst of it. Thanks again for the video!
@@howard6798 thanks for sharing your feedback! Yeah doing this on the floor can get tricky and messy. From here on out do a drain and fill every 15k or as needed 👍🏻
Some thoughts on this based on experience with my 2014LX 6-Spd, and the many related comments on the OdyClub forum…. - my juddering at shift points at 25k was totally solved by 3x drain&fill (not flush!) with honda DW-1 and transm software update. - the DW-1 fluid is not synthetic and its viscosity (and other parameters?) decays quickly. IMO DW-1 is just barely capable of going the 30k honda recommended change interval. I recommend changing it at every engine oil change if its driven hard heavy traffic, or at every other oil change if its seeing gentler use. - honda does not call for transm oil filter to be changed, IMO if you are keeping the fluid fresh I dont think regular filter changing is necessary. - do the drain&fills yourself! Its easy drain plug is at front easily accessible. Get a foot of clear plastic hose at HDepot that will just fit inside dipstick hole and attach to bottom of your funnel, works great. Good luck…
@@BCautosolutions At what mileage you change the oil on the 9 speed. The 9 speed uses Honda ATF Type 3.1 Fluid (it is a ZF transmission). I think maintenance says to change it at 60K on the 9 speed.

They rarely get to the point of failing so even if you were to wait until it’s juddering or shifting harsh in most cases it can be saved. I’ve seen those trans go 200k+ already

Great video. Have a 2012 odyssey EX (160,000 miles) with low vibration at low RPMs in all gears (generally 1500 or so). Can mainly tell when in drive at a stoplight, when I place into neutral it goes away. I changed spark plugs and ignition coils and it only helped slightly. I don’t really notice gear slipping or any other trans-related issues. I started changing ATF frequently after 120,000 but I’ve never done it 3 times in a row. I’ll try that, but Any other ideas?
Could be something with the mounts as well. It has active mounts to absorb vibrations, if those are bad you will feel additional vibrations in particular the front and rear mounts
@@BCautosolutions I had aftermarket mounts put on at an outside shop a little over two years ago, I didn’t need them but it was a misdiagnosis. However, when I had my timing belt replaced at the dealer a month ago, they said one was broken so they replaced it. So 3 of them aren’t “broken” but are aftermarket. Could the fact that they are aftermarket be the culprit?
Great Video! I have a 2013 Odyssey 164000km and am having very simmer issues especially when the van is first started lots of juddering. I have done the tipple drain and fill as well as changed the inline filter. The fluid looked about as dark as it did in your video and the mag plug was clean, did make the shifting much better, but it is still not performing as it did before the strange shifting and juddering started. Also especially when cold seems to lack acceleration sometimes. I am able to put my scanner on and watch it shift through all the gears they all seem to be working properly. Very strange and hard to troubleshoot. I am not able to pull any codes from the van using my scanner. I have plugs and coils on there way. I was wondering how to determine if the torque converter is the problem? Did you ever get the issue fixed on your 2012 Odyssey Lance? I went in to see a couple of different Honda dealers and they both want to charge me about $700 to start the troubleshooting procedure and they both want to drain and fill the fluid three times. Which I've already done and they're unwilling to believe that I've done it correctly even though I've got the receipt from them for the Honda fluid the Crush Washer and the filter. Feeling very left out in the cold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated cheers.
@@bryant9909 the mounts were trashed, so I had to replace all mounts, which was a little pricey. Then I also installed VCM Tuner II to disable VCM. So I fixed the vibration, and by disabling VCM I ensure it doesn’t happen again. I wish I could tell you it’s cheap. But it definitely solves all issues and VCM Tuner II gives you a more responsive van with a bit more gitty up (especially in low gears) moving forward.
Is the proper way to check your transmission fluid on a running car in park/neutral or shutoff while warm? I've heard both and don't know which is true for these transmissions. Thanks
Hey in Canada that would be about $250 to $300 for just there oil... ☹️ I've never seen transmission oil look that bad. Definitely needs changing in a more frequent internal.
Great Video.. My 2015 Odyssey was having the same problem but only in colder weather, would shift harshly from 2nd to 3rd gear, or anytime under 40km/h. In summer months doesn't seem to have the same issue. Dealership can't figure it out, they performed the 3 X drain and fill and updated software. Still is happening. Any thoughts.
If that hasn’t worked and is only a harsh shift in cold weather then most likely something internal I’m the trans itself. They have to log it and see what is acting up. Hopefully it’s consistent enough in cold weather to where they can duplicate it fairly easily

@@BCautosolutions can someone explain what the VCM vibration means? I bought a 2013 Odyssey and it has a hesitation between 2nd and 3rd. Some other accelerations or deceleration sound a little loud but I think an average driver man not notice. Does this sound like VCM since it's tolerable?
👍🏻👍🏻
The fact is that newer Hondas are not engineered like they were once engineered back 90's & early 20's. The only vehicles I see investing 40K or higher is 4runner, used GX460 or Sequoias.
@@desi4lyfe379 actually, newer Hondas are very durable compared to some of the older ones. I particularly enjoy the companies V6 engines. & their (in house designed) transmission designs have gotten a whole lot better.

Put Lubegard additive in the transmission with every change and it will be as smooth as silk. No need to do the triple change!
Could be a combination of things. When you let off the gas does the vibration subside or remain?
I just bought a 2020 honda pilot and is the same problem do I have to do the 3x fluid change ?

Good luck…

My 17 odyssey 53k on the clock i have has the trans fluid change every 10k or 15k for the last 2k i notice the tc keeps going in and out of lockup driveing me nuts. Last week just popped a code. The 68at transmission is a week transmission.
Yeah I would say I’m your case the torque converter is faulty. I agree the 6at is problematic and people were concerned about the 9 speed zf trans 😑
I dont have hard juddering. Not particularly sure if I have the same issue..... In final gear cruising at 1k rpm it sounds like a slight grinding and I can feel it. I accelerate lightly and it shifts down one gear and goes away and runs smooth. Of course if I maintain cruising speed it shifts up again and happens again. Doesnt happen in any other gear. Car has 43k miles. Would this fix it? Or should I look into other issues?
Yeah most likely your experiencing the very beginning of this. If you haven’t done a trans service since you purchased it, I would highly recommend this. Let me know how it goes 👍🏻
Ok thanks much appreciated, I'll do it and get back to you with the result
Did the job, was pure black. Did 3 times as prescribed. Shifts so much better. Not hearing the issue in 6th gear anymore. Was there a filter to change also? I didn't do that? I'm guessing that requires taking the pan down.
@@codename_wind_official no, rhe fluid changeable suffice. If it’s still dark do a 2x trans flush in 10k then a 1x service going forward every 15k. Glad it worked out for you
I replace the filter with it the diffs but definately need to do a drain and fill again soon
Note acura rdx 2017 tech package
You mean with the trans service?
I brought my 2017 Pilot Exl to the delear as it was having transmission issues at 43k miles. They said I need a new transmission. They are still deciding whether they will pay for it or not. When they put a transmission in is it usually a new one or an old rebuilt. My concern is that I may have the same problem even with a new transmission. Any thoughts. ????
It’s a reman trans. If it’s maintained the way I’m suggesting here with fluid replaced every 15-20k it will not have any issues.
@@BCautosolutions I know this is an old video. But I have a 2017 RDX with same 6 speed transmission and was having torque converter similar codes p0741 and my transmission went out at 70k miles. I got a new transmission put in by the dealer and I still experience rough shifts on a new transmission barely 500 miles on the odo with the new transmission.
I did my first transmission oil change at 44k then every 30k onwards and still it failed. I did 3 transmission oil changes. 3rd one had metal shavings.
How to check if the solenoids are working? Do I need to replace ATF filter on a new transmission or does new transmission come with a new filter?
I am driving like a very gentle guy now and still it's throwing and slipping sometimes from 2nd to 3rd and 4th.
There is no point taking it to the dealership without a code. I also hear clunking noise when I shift my car from park to drive especially on an incline. When I bought the car I have driven with parking brake on for a few feet for a few months. Did I damage the parking brake pawl and how can that affect the shifter?
What's your advice? Should I trade this car in once extended warranty runs out in 2024?
@@SachinHari1993 if your still having issues I would definitely look to get out of the car.
Nice advice so it really helps a lot
Glad to help 👍🏻
I need some help my Transmission shift Ralph in gears one and two it’s at 199,000 miles I service the transmission at a Honda dealer at 173,000 miles but I am having a rough shifting in gears one and two or sometime a jerk when I move from when I put the car in reverse, i need ur help , I have no lights on in the dash
Could’ve anything. Even tho you have changed the fluid doesn’t mean it’s not burnt. If it’s dark, start with multiple flushes (this is a double edged sword and could kill the trans at that mileage so I would proceed with caution) 2nd thing I’ve seen pretty common is the 3rd pressure switch. Are you in jersey?
Wish I had the tools to do so. My 2017 touring has started to judder or feel weird when shifting from 1-3 gear.
@@cornellsmith5116 only a few to buy, not so bad
Honda safety bulletin says 3x change and software update. I’ve had that done plus they replaced torque converter and it’s still doing it
Needs the trans then.
Research changing the transmission oil pressure switches. They are common fail point on Hondas. I am dealing with similar issue and I keep coming back to this as a solution. I am going to try soon and report back.
Would this apply to my 6 speed in my 2013 TL 3.5 fwd
Not sure, but considering it’s 6at most likely
I heaving hard gear ingagement from park to reverse and similar for N to D
Car just shakes alto kindly reply 😊
Mine is honda accord 2016 v6 sedan
Have you changed the fluid recently?
@@BCautosolutions not yet i am confused
Some mechanics where saying there is issue with solenoid valve body
When i told them that changing fluid will fix this issue they simply said no
@@BCautosolutions kindly suggest something
How do you know how much fluid to add ?
You have to check the dipstick when the car is off. Typically about 3.5 qts
Just one question I have a code p0747 in my crosstour 2015 v6, if I do this do you think it would fix that code
No
Should I remove the selenoid and clean the delivery tubes? I’ve seen some people doing it I don’t have reverse rn, I’ve head that if I do the 3 times drain and refill and change the filter that may work but after that if still not working I will remove the selenoid and clean the delivery tube too se the outcome, but if not I will be just putting another tranny on…
@@klivian100 yeah unfortunately I think the damage is done. I would source a trans if I were you.
I don’t know, I will try, the car it’s only 97.400 miles and at first I thought I was having a misfire, I did not know at the time that these v6 has a TSB , just after some dig on forums that I figured but that’s the thing I don’t think it’s too late, we shall see.
It was serviced twice one at 27.000 miles , at 57.000 and I brought the car to the Honda dealer and they did a flush and refill at 97.200 miles just after that that I have the code, before I wasn’t , just hard shifting and rpm fluctuations.
There is a bulletin for honda cars with this problem, the dealer will flush
the transmission and will update the software, and will fix the problem at no cost, i had my 2016 pilot done today
Yes this is true but it are more cars affected then what they cover and it’s a bulletin not an extension, if your out but time or mileage they won’t cover it. Regardless of the situation regular trans fluid maintenance is highly recommended which Honda will brush off
@@BCautosolutions absolutely correct. I just had the dealer tell that my ‘19 pilot with 41k miles needs a software update and ATF flush to fix the issue. They quoted me $635 for parts and labor. What does the software update have to do with the issue? Can I just changed the fluid 3x without the stupid software update?
@@Rriekels09 the update maintains the trans temps in “derivable range” but I don’t believe the update is available for the 19s. Long story short the fluid gets worn out quickly on all the 6at. I would do the 3x trans flush and just change the fluid every 15k going forward 👍🏻
Do you happen to have the bulletin number by any chance? I scheduled a service at the dealership to have trans fluid changed, having some info could help me avoid an expensive bill
Found it
100000 POWER TRAIN
RECORD_ID: 3204361
Bulletin Number: A20-029
18 pilot should I be afraid?
getting rid of it anyways so idc but i think the 6 spd is better than the 9 for this gen?
@@Lemonhead8890 9speed is less problematic for sure atleast what I see here
great video thank u
Thank you
So every 20-30k do a triple drain/fill?
Double at that rate would be good enough
@@BCautosolutions thank you
@@davidkasai87 anytime
The triple drain&fill is done once to get 90% of the old unknown fluid out. Then IMO and experience with hondas is to do one drain&fill every other engine oil change.
@@danah9576every other oil change Jesus’s that’s like every year
Nice info👍👍
Thank you, hope it helps you. thanks for watching.
I've been reading all these comments, sounds like the 6 speed Hondas have a factory defective transmission. I'm going to seek legal advice and try to recover my losses.
What maintenance if any, was done on the transmission?
Not true changeing new honda fluid sometimes with make the transmission worst then it all ready is If the car has higher miles the transmission is already used to that old oil it will still need some old oil in it to run correct
No, Will only make it worse if it slipping or harsh engagements. That is not the case here.
@@BCautosolutionsmy 2015 pilot has 85,000. Bought used 3 weeks ago; I’m not sure if trans fluid has ever been changed and was told by a local mechanic he wouldn’t do a flush because it would need to be towed out of the garage /
Put a slight fear in my mind to do this 3x flush. It’s only shudder at times 20-30 like the torque converter being affected prob due to the old/burnt fluid. Would still recommend i do the flush process ? Maybe with added lubeguard? It’s not slipping , just worries the flush would make tran worse
@@shawno321 instead I would do a 1x service every 5k until up to desired color. He is partially correct and it’s always a risk especially not knowing the history.
Nice
Thanks for watching
Show me how you see it on the HDS . Dude , seems like a bandaid fix to me .
I’ll make a video next one that comes in. It’s not a bandaid, it’s actually lack of maintence.
Anyone tried trans fluid other than Honda stuff?
Haven’t read any of that in the comments although if someone had I’d be curious to know
Take the trans line off and just run it all out gonna be bout 12 qts
No, that’s a horrible idea.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
If people would have changed it every 40000 miles it would have been fine and not burnt
Even at 40k it’s too late, I recommend every 15-20k atleast in a city environment
@Hondamobilemechanic i have 120k warranty I'm good and have none I mean none of these problems you state
No vibrations no hard shifting so I must have gotten a good one see ya
The weak link in any Honda is the transmission.
Not true. Anything with the 1.5t is the head gasket. The Honda 10at is a phenomenal trans.
The weak link is the crappy DW-1 transm oil. Change it every 15k at leadt.
@@danah9576 agreed
Faulty torque converter from the damn vcm technology!
If it was faulty then it wouldn’t get fixed with fluid replacement….
@@BCautosolutions I just always feel a stutter when the damn Eco light comes on. The engine got new piston rings because the oil was passing through, from the vcm disabling.
@@yodead369 it’s 2 different issues. Even without vcm it would happen at the same rpm. Plus when it’s really bad it happens on hard acceleration as well. Also happens to 12-14 crvs that clearly have no vcm.
@@BCautosolutions you recommend, just the changed and drain (3x) procedure? The manual says not to change the transmission fluid unless the service light code 3 comes on....
@@yodead369 yes. I’ve done this 100s of times always having success unless if it have over 100k first time changing the fluid then I would do a drain and fill every 2-3k I’m order not to blow the trans
These Odysseys are nothing besides money-pit machines. From piston rings to transmission failures, what the heck are they good in? The worst thing is the sliding doors which may not close during frigid winters & the constant beep makes it almost impossible to drive the vehicle. 7 years or 100K timing belt service which cost tons to get it service & all these costs are extra burden on premium prices consumers pay. When you see Odyssey for sale, just run.
I agree, plus most times they are poorly maintained which lead to other failures so add that to the mix.
True but once the issues are addressed it will go very reliably long term.
- vcm must be disabled, just DIY install (2 minutes) a ‘muzzler’ cost bout $110.
- transm issues typ just need more frequent transm oil changes.
- yes the timing belt and tensioner need teplacing every 100k and is bout $1k ;-(.
@@danah9576 1K on a 10 year + older vehicle for timing belt? The irreversible damage the rear cylinders takes due to VCM is more than enough to run away from this vehicle. The roof rails needs to be re-silicone, rollers for both doors will require to be replaced, many gaskets will require to be replaced etc. This van dont worth to keep bleeding money on maintenance.
Yes based on your description it has not been maintained well. All comes down to if you are a DIY’er or not. The price of new cars is sky high so it makes sense to consider repairing most issues, or move on to a newer Ody that is better maintained.
trans every 15k-20k you are outta your mind....
Ok then deal with the vibrations and judders 🤷🏼♂️
