I took sailplane lessons out of Circle X Gliderport, Mulberry, Fl., back in 1966. Pat Hange was my female instructor and Harriet Hamilton was the female tow pilot. What a great couple they were. They would be so proud of you and your flying accomplishments. Watching you brought back the great flying memories I had with Pat. Oh yes, Pat cut me no slack, even though I was only 14. This was a great video!
Hello Julia, these are great cockpit footage with your 360deg camera. I've seen all your videos, they are really fantastic, I also admire your sense of technique and of course your gliding skills. Kind Regards Arnout from the Netherlands
This is so cool, love the camera shots. You are such a cool chick. You European's know how to have fun. Never seen wake boarding systems like that before. Cool !!!
Lovely footage.... loved the elegant plop into the water 💧 on your waterboarding launch. 🙂 perhaps u should stick to what u good at ... flying 🤣 Question? I was always told expressly one should not wear a hat with a peak when flying as it restricts your look out. Is it different in Bavaria? 🤔
I was hoping you'd show the tow plane or whatever the proper term is, and when you disconnect from it. I've only seen a video of it one time years ago, so thanks for including it. Also what type of plane is being used, is it specific for towing gliders or...? I see it's a single engine prop plane but it looks unique, almost like a glider somewhat.

Thanks for the amazing footage! Your videos as well as Stefan Langer's and Bruno Vassel's have been a huge inspiration for me. After hundreds of hours on Condor, I took an introductory lesson in an ASK-21 last week and I was hooked. I joined my local club and will start flight training this Saturday! Anyway keep up the great videos 😃 P.S. I noticed you were flying over what looked like a power plant at 3:34. I've actually always wondered if things like nuclear cooling towers would produce a house thermal above them. Did you just happen to be flying over or was there usable lift above the towers?
There is an ED-R above the power plant but it’s only low 👏🏼 from GND to 1036m MSL / 3400ft which makes it possible to give it a try to see whether there is an updraft or not
Palo Verde Is 10 miles from the airport I fly at near Phoenix. We fly over it all the time. When running the water towers or the large area of asphalt and dirt provide a nice thermal most of the time. My instructor says we have a nuclear powered glider.
you are absolutely awesome, and i must say, for 125k subs, your editing game is top notch... you usually see this level on a 1mil + channels. great content, beautiful editing, subbed
What you saw was a bugwiper as Julius said. In my case they are electrically driven so that you can just switch them on and they will remove those annoying insects which otherwise would be creating a lot of drag. The brand is called „Laminar Aerotec“, there you can look for more information ☺️
OK, so I am guessing at what that thing is that slides along the leading edge. Is it to remove bugs, or rain? Is the wing that critical? You need to make a video of it. Explaining what it does and how it works.
Bugs have an annoying habit of being caught by thermals, and when a glider is flying in the same thermal, wing contamination is inevitable. The wipers are for cleaning bugs from the leading edge, raindrops can be removed just by flying faster for a moment. It is not flight-safety critical, but glider pilots are very concious of efficiency and any unnecessary drag is, well, unnecessary. The wipers are connected to a reel (either electrically driven or hand-cranked) in the cockpit by fishing line. When the line is given slack, the airflow drives the wipers towards the wingtip, and then they are reeled back in. There's a thin wire hugging the leading edge that does the actual wiping action.
Lol at 3:35 were you using the heat from those cooling towers to climb? I wouldn't have thought they would produce a large enough thermal to ride, but that's really ingenious.
This is the best flying related vid on YT. What exactly is the moving apparatus on the leading edge of wings? If I had to guess by the shape of it, I would say some kind of roll enhancement???
This was just in my recommended to watch list. Was very cool to watch. What was the device that went out and back on the leading edge of the wing @ 9:58?
Vor 10 Jahren dort im Fliegerlager gewesen..mit dem Lepo gibts einige Storys, hab gehört man kann damit Nachts versehentlich mal paar Landereiter mitnehmen.. :D
I can't believe they let you fly over that nuclear power plant lol. Even for light aircraft usually always restricted airspace. Quick source of thermals though! Great video, would like to see some more technical videos about gliding techniques!
We have around 50 reactors in the Idaho desert, all for research, and yes the airspace is restricted but all they ask (TELL YOU) is stay above 6,000' ASL, about 2 K high, so not a problem.
Great shots in the air. You are so lucky that the registration JS on the glider is the same as you name Or did you plan that? Anyway what happened with championships? Did you post any follow up video re the results etc. Did you notice the shark in the water?
That is a bug wiper. To remove insect carcasses from the wing nose where any imperfection disrupts the laminar air flow. The actual scrapers are fishing lines of nylon the plastic form that you see does not touch the wing
@@kaihorstmann2783 thank you very much! It makes sense that even that little distribution to the flow would make a difference but the fact that they made a tool to fix it in right is so cool. Gliders are amazing!
