- Whaz UP my dear boys and girls it's your PRB12 here and as much as I like Pokemon Journeys as a whole I can't deny that it also has some MAJOR HUGE problems as well.....and I think that one of thjose problems has been massively overlooked! :O
So therefore I wanna have a quick talk with you guys about one topic: DID POKEMON JOURNEYS RUIN TEAM ROCKET?
I mean c'mon! ...there's no way anyone can ruin our beloved dorky villains, right? .....right?

And yes, what makes team rocket SO special to us is completely absent here!
For a comedic villanious that are doomed to fail, they gained the love we fans have for them through empathy and by showing us their more HUMAN side. And that is why their Bond with their Pokémon feel so realistic, to the point of overshadowing Ash and co's bonds with their Pokémon from time to time!
For example, arbok and weezing. Their personalities may not be too explored, but their are two thing that Will always stick out about those two besides being Their first Pokémon and their sad release. One, they evolved FOR their trainers. Two, during the Giant Pokémon episode, when they, meowth and Ash's Pokémon where separated from their trainers, these two refused to attack Pikachu and co. At meowth's request, stating that they are not evil. They just do evil thing for Jessie and James!
Come on, journeys! Pull yourself together!
Hey Rangerboy, I don't think team rockets gatcha machine is in itself a problem. The real problem is with the way it is being handled. What the writers should do is have team rocket catch and use their own pokemon on a regular basis, such as morpeko and chewtle, but bring out the gacha machine only on special occasions when the plot of the episode necessitates team rocket to give ash a threatening challenge. Furthermore, only big, scary pokemon, such as hydragon and rampardos should come out of the gatcha machine, NOT, unevolved pokemon like drilbur and or bunery. That way everyone wins. Team rocket gets to have permanent Pokémon which they form strong bonds with (which ultimately easily lose to ash) and the gacha machine can be viewed as a treat which brings epic, tense, close, memorable battles between ash and team rocket when the plot calls for it. This dynamic can give us the best of both the goofy, but wholesome team rocket seen in sun and moon and the serious, threatening team rocket seen in best wishes. Anyway, let me know what you think

Honestly, Team Rocket are the worst characters in the show and single handedly bring the the quality of the best seasons for me, DP and XY. They are absolutely unnecessary and waste screen time that could be of more use to the other characters. I've wanted them gone ever since Advanced Generation.
Team Rocket is just a plot device at this point. They show up to either make the characters stronger, Pokemon evolve, or to cause conflict.
They are just around to kill 5 mins, they have no idea on what content they actually wanna animate.

When Journeys first started, I was under the belief that Team Rocket would ditch the gacha machine once they caught Pokemon of their own, and was really expecting them to be the Chewtle and Morpeko, but they didn't do that and it really disappoints me.
I couldn't put my finger on why Team Rocket felt so forgettable in Journeys, thanks for putting it into words.

i do miss that. its why i hated them in black and white their dindt love their pokemon in that saga at least not as i remember.
You take away that emotional connection between Jessie, James, and Meowth with the pokemon Jessie and James get, you take away what makes them great characters. Even though I knew about the gacha machine, I thought they would still give Jessie and James pokemon to have that connection with. However, if that is not happening, then heck yes Journeys ruined Team Rocket.
I can’t lie I love Mimikyu and Jessie relationship so much when I went to shiny hunting for a mimikyu, I used a luxury ball.

I'm so glad someone has finally bought this up! I have been a massive fan of team rocket for years and seeing them get turned into purely comedic characters is upsetting. Not only were their own Pokemon a strong part of their characters, but also their backstories. I remember watching Meowths backstory episode, and listening to nyaasu no uta and really relating to it when I was younger. Ever since gen 5 they've kinda forgotten about that, which is a shame because I'd love to see them explore the deeper, more sad aspect of TR
They've been annoying comic relief since BW ended.
@@wandering4104 Yeah I know. But they had some sort of depth to them that made us sympathetic towards them. All that backstory and depth has been taken away ever since Alola.
Also yeah they were annoying quite a bit, but I never really had a problem with it. Infact, I rooted for them more than I rooted for Ash. I even watched some Pokémon episodes just for them

Team Rocket heart and spirit was taken out but we are left with empty vessel.
The Gotcha machine made battle interesting using different and more powerful Pokémon but removed the journey aspect.
They just turn into minor grunt like from team skull or flare now.
Such high hopes for Pokémon Journeys but the further we go the more we're disappointed. There's no feeling of progression, every episode is a one-off arc except that massive storyline that was done in like 3 episodes that should've been the big story throughout the series and no connection to the pokémons and characters 99% of the time.
Damn, we were so happy in the beginning of this season and now...
I just want Black & White + XYZ level of animation and storytelling back, Is that so much to ask for @ anime?
can it even be considered it feels more like a fetch quest rather then a journey they stay in the same spot and they only went to 3 of the many regions plus the whole tournament thing doesn't feel like it's going anywhere since we only see it once or twice then it's completly gone

Team Rocket are definitely at a new low character-wise. With the episodic nature, Goh hogging all the screentime, and trying to promote every Pokemon at once, Journeys definitely is the worst series of the anime, and one we’d all want to be forgotten when Gen 9 rolls around.
Pokémon Journeys feels so underwhelming. Every character, including Ash and Goh, feel like they’re only there for the sake of being there. It’s like Journeys only exists to fill time until the Gen 9 anime comes out. If Journeys just ended right now, I don’t think anybody would miss it. Ash caught a Dragonite and Lucario, Pokémon which we have wanted Ash to catch for years now, and it feels so boring. Journeys is just Sun and Moon, but without the interesting characters, without Team Rocket, without the cool Pokémon, without the emotion moments, without the comedy, and without the character development.
They're only using Goh and Team Rocket less like characters and more like tools to make every pokemon have an appearance (except Porygon line), alongside all the fillers

I don’t even particularly care about Team Rocket but I completely agree with you. When it comes to Journeys, it really doesn’t feel like they quite get either Ash or Team Rocket because, with both, they essentially have diluted them down to basic attributes at the cost of the full characters
I don’t like how they are now. I miss how they were in sun and moon, they were incompetent but they had bonds with Pokémon and were kind to bewear
So incompetent that they got 2 Z Crystals, beat Ash, made it into the top 16 of the league.
Maybe Jessie, James and Meowth don't really want to capture Ash's Pikachu or any of his other Pokemon, because in reality, they actually like them. They give them purpose in their lives.
Plus, at least they were smarter and cooler in the Unova saga.
They will most likely join Ash & Team Pokémon against Giovanni in the Future

Another thing about TRio that should be mentioned is the incoherency.
The beginning of JN is pretty similiar to BW and SM, with them actually being recommended by Giovanni instead of just following Ash; but that being said, the difference between JN and the previous 2 Gens is that, in those occasions, Team Rocket's treatment by their Boss derived from actual achievements they managed to look like they got - that being the "victories" against Team Galactic and Team Flare.
The Sun&Moon anime literally ended with TRio returning to the HQ with empty hands, so why should Giovanni be proud of them to the point of giving a secret weapon?
That's honestly some very poor writing.
Well that, or maybe it is just a thing that Giovanni is saying "this isn't working so we'll do this my method".
Like Giovanni's proud to present the gatcha machine, and since he knew they failed capturing Pokemon and such, he just says "Fine. This time we're using my secret weapon, and this time you do it my way".

Really agree. I really kind of miss the old rocket team. At least they had thier story episode too. Hope after journeys pokemon gets fixed.
Since Team Rocket is traveling the world in Journeys, I'm surprised the writers didn't just let them have their old pokemon that they left at HQ. Like, they don't have to worry about their pokemon not being native to a region since they're always on the move.
This is one of the reasons I hate OLM (the animation studio that produced the Pokémon anime)

I definitely agree with you with this long. Although Team Rocket has been doing the same thing since day 1, the nice thing is seeing how they bond with heir Pokemon, and that is something I always love about in the Pokémon anime. Seeing how Pokémon interact with their trainers, whether it’s the good guys or bad guys. Journeys seems to disregard that fact, but I at least hope that the writers will consider that, and write team rocket better for journeys
It may be controversial, but I feel that Pokemon Journeys ruined not only Team Rocket but The Pokemon Anime as a whole. I am watching it since the Diamond and Pearl era and even during Sun and Moon mostly I wasn't bored about the episodes. But now most of the time watching trailers for the next week episode makes me don't care about it. The last episode I've spent jumping the scenes forward, still understanding the episode and still don't caring about it. The last two parters literally gave me a headache. Even taking how bad the first half of Sun and Moon was it had better filler episodes. Journeys had such great potential and just like a whole fandom I was really excited about it. I know the writers want to make this season fresh and mix up the formula but it just makes it worse. The worst thing is the episodic nature of this season. I get that they probably want to make more money by showing them in TV in any order and show it to kids over and over again but it just stopped looking like a journey. Sorry for the long post but I had to let out my disappointment with what is going on
The first half of Sun and Moon had some of the best rated episodes in the entire anime so it can’t be considered “bad”.
To be honest... I find Team Rocket overrated. I used to love them, but now I feel they never evolve as villains. Why are they still villains anyway?
I feel that people are giving Ash too much crap over the years, and always giving Team Rocket a pass.

Back when Black and White first started they finally made Team Rocket competent villains who only appeared when they needed to. What the heck happened during that banned battle with them and Team Plasma that caused them to go back to their boring silly ways?

This is a sad rise and fall of Team Rocket. They were cool but they got pulled back again and again.
My opinion about Team Rocket that they should've just give up before the beginning of Advanced saga or beginning or in the middle Diamond and Pearl saga.

Honestly I never cared for team rocket so I don't really care if the series ruined them I stopped liking team rocket after gen 4 cause that time I started to get out of the anime because I was growing up into my teens and it was kind of getting old to me just having them trying to steal a new Pokémon and they get stopped and never win. So there was no excitement in watching those shows unless something canon happened in it. They have hundreds of episodes of that. I didn't even like them in gen 7 but I always liked their Pokémon. They should just give Giovanni a good arc and at the end they get disbanded. I was hoping this would happen in gen 5 but they just kept returning and failing at being bad guys. Giovanni is a better character cause he was a gym leader and he is the Leader of team rocket. So they should have Ash and Goh take down team rocket once and for all like how red did in the game. but I know they wont do this because they want team rocket in the show. I just wished they were better villains. cause you know they're gonna lose its just when and how they will. But other arcs like the gym battle and leagues episodes are always fun to watch. But a perfect example is with the team flare arc, the mini arc with chairman rose and even the team rocket arc in gen 5 when Giovanni is the main villian for the arc are good arcs. So I wish they would do something like that and have their story be done by disbanding the team. They can even have jessie and James work at Professor Cerise lab so they can still be in the episode and be working with Ash and Goh as lab assistance Sorry if I get anybody mad this is just how I feel about team rocket

7. Original series - 2/10 - THEY APPEAR IN EVERY EPISODE, ESPECIALLY HOENN ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Journeys - 2/10 - THE GACHA MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. X and Y - 3/10 - One positive, they don't appear in every episode! THAT'S IT!!
4. Advanced - 5/10 - Love their focused episodes, and James, but still a bit the same as the original series
3. Diamond and Pearl - 7/10 - Contests, and connections, not too annoying! That's all folks!
2. Sun and Moon - 9/10 - Mastering Z moves, going to the pokemon league, and their characters themselves!
1. Black and White - 9/10 - They were serious for the whole series! Except for the decolore islands

it’s really sad to be honest, the very last season ash and most likely team rocket, team rocket just got used for mostly filler and DAM they didn’t get no heart warming kind of send off all they did was get blasted off, argue and just split up and go separate ways- LIKE WHY.. I find it really odd, Team Rocket trio nowadays.
Like to be honest they could just not always focus on Pikachu and do their job: capture other Pokemon. I am not saying I hate Team Rocket, I am just saying that you think that with their job as being Team Rocket, they would steal other Pokemon and not JUST Pikachu. I feel like that could've spiced up TR and you know, do something different for a change. Plus isn't Team Rocket and Ash on a sort of semi-friendly relationship in some ways? I mean Team Rocket trio has helped Ash in the past.
I don't know. I didn't watch Journeys past episode 5 because of school, and it seems like I didn't miss much. Now I'm gonna go head back and write my head canon on the adventure in Galar except differently or improving.
Honestly, the writers don't even seem to respect Team Rocket anymore.
It's rather ironic, since even Sun&Moon did better when it comes to Team Rocket, from defeating Ash legitimately, to having great bonds with their respective Pokemon, I'm honestly disappointed for this series.
I really hated the Gacha aspect, it's clearly out of place.

True. I remember the episode that Team Rocket LEGITIMATELY defeated Ash fair and square.

With out a doubt man, like wtf I've lost everything to hope since the ep where the team rocket return the pokemon they've stolen, really what's the point of adding team rocket to the show now? The writers literally change the whole series to some slice of life anime and it's horrible tbh ( slice of life anime isn't always bad but this one is boring as hell )
Bruh I completely forgot team rocket existed. Because they have no contribution to the story. They don’t have any Pokémon. And they don’t apear in every episode which is a good thing since they suck but it’s bad because they don’t get screen time.
Heres one problem i have with team rocket in journeys; thanks to the gactha i miss them having there own Pokémon i even have an idea for james to catch a galarian weezing

It is sad that Journeys wasted TR, especially after their development in sun and moon. Sun and Moon revitalised the characters and made them fun again.

At this point, I really just want the Trio to realize that all they need was each other and that Team Rocket and Go vanni are just using them. Have them liberate their Pokemon at Team Rocket hq (unova Pokemon included) and go into seclusion only to return later and help Ash and friends take down Giovanni and Team Rocket once and for all.

Personally, I feel like team rocket ruined journeys, they showed up in the most worse times. I rarely remember any good episodes that have them show up at random just to cause constant conflict against ash, except for the development episodes they used to have.
I wished they leave Team rocket and Join Coronation series. New Ash's rivals who are actually old faces would be a great idea. Their story finale should be a revolt against Giovanni
And they are so hungry in all the ep before James catches I don’t know how to say it name put it is the food eating Pokémon. And in where they are taken power from house they were just trying to feed they food eating Pokémon, so they can eat and ash and goh don’t see team rocket hungry at all and they gave back the power and ash’s pikachu uses thunderbolt on them and that is just mean to do to team rocket and pikachu is a monster and ash and goh are too a monster as well.
I saw a bit of ep 95 and it is sad the ash and goh at the end of it, ash and goh are they real monster at the ending of ep 95 I think so. Ash tales pikachu to use thunderbolt in the sand area and ash and goh don’t see that team rocket is tried and team rocket should have tale them they story of meet they old problems.

Yeah. It kind of makes me regret not being a Pokemon writer in the first place. I wish they had more Team Rocket character development, like where they develop from villains to characters who want to find their true way of life, like something they want to do outside of being Team Rocket, and then abandoning Team Rocket to follow their new goals.
It would've been a perfect opportunity for them to stand by Ash as his traveling companions as well, hopefully, improving their relations with Ash.
Actually James has caught morpeko now, it was a very sweet moment of friendship

yes they do because they are very popular.
Felt it was off ever since the first time I heard the dub's theme song and it had no mention of Pokémon in it. Not to mention the Grookey episode, it just cemented the whole Team Rocket not feeling the same for me. The trio has always released their Pokémon or given them to other trainers when the Pokémon wanted it or when it was in their best interest to. Not to mention that James was always the one who had attachments to Grass types stereotypically! Just doesn't feel like the same anime series anymore.

Completely agree. I totally hated that Gatcha machine(dont know how to spell it) since the beginning. But its definitely more than that. I think, with the exception of the Ditto episode, Team Rocket has been a complete afterthought in Pokemon Journeys. Team Rocket had its biggest momentum from late Gen4 to the end of Gen 6. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to revamp them in some way or write them out of the anime.
Calling it now, They'll wind up summoning Paimon.
Personally I don't mind this, nor have I ever really cared about Team Rocket at all.
The only consistency Team Rocket has for a current team seems to only be Chewtle and apparently Morpeko
And team rocket did save ash a lot of time and they free they Pokémon a lot ask James about they Pokémon he free and Jesse free she Pokémon as well and she free she Pokémon that was in love and team rocket and they stop they Pokémon hunter in a ep from hurting they Pokémon and others as well and ash and goh are they real monster now and forever and meowth story is really sad and ash and goh should leave forever.

They did that already. The episode was in Pokemon Chronicles episode 12.
Meowth was done in Indigo League. The three all have their past shown in at least gens 1 2 3

Team Rocket can’t be replaced. They’re the only members who want to kidnap Pikachu. There are no other evil members who want to do that as well. Not even Team Aqua, Magma, Galactic, Plasma, Flare, and Skull.

No, in Sun and Moon, Team Rocket had strong bonds with their Pokemon, they even got their own Z-Move which they always performed as a Team. And there were a lot of episodes focusing on Team Rocket and the bonds with their Pokemon.
The Gatcha machine has nothing to do with Alola tbh. XD It's Journeys own fault, cause they want to add elements of Pokemon Go (the Gatcha machine is a reference to Go, in which you can battle against Team Rocket grunts that always use random Pokemon against you).
So I guess Pokemon Go, or the inclusion of Pokemon Go in the anime is to blame.
@@Feurigel1806 Pokemon Go also ruined the series because it inspired Goh..who simply doesnt work as a protaganist for a series. He catches everything too easily and we rarely see him struggle, fail or have deep bonds with his pokemon the way Ash did when we first met him. Hell cinderace and lucario were gone a whole day and Goh and Ash were just there stuffing their faces instead of immediatly looking for them when Ash in the original and up to XY would be worried immediatly after his partner was missing and go look for them. Journeys really seems to lack in those hard hitting deep momments in general. Even the battle with eternetus was lack luster in terms of writting and any real character development, it felt empty almost and resolved too quickly.

I 100% fully agree with you! What you just said is incredibly true, and on top of them not barely ever being in the anime- I grew to really not like Pokémon journeys as much. I absolutely loved team rocket and they were my favorite. The way the original series up to hoenn and treated them was so perfect! The way that the show made them suffer so you could take pity on them, was just really cool to me because it showed that the anime cared more about them than you'd think. i'm fairly upset about journeys did to them. i want the old team rocket back...
I think with Morpeko, they saw the success Mimikyu had with Jessie in the anime and tried to replicate it. :/
Them ditching the Prize Machine towards the end of Journeys is a good sign they'll return to getting their own Pokemon next season. However, I think another reason they've been more forgettable is simply due to the fact they're in a lot less episodes in Journeys. Used to be they'd be in almost every episodes, but in the new series they can go ten episodes without putting in an appearance.
I think each new series of Pokemon does some things better than others and some things worse. Galar wasn't a great run for the Team Rocket trio (not to say it was completely bad) but that doesn't mean when we move into the new region they don't regain elements we like about them.

You know what ash and goh should feel what it is like to be blast off like team rocket does all they time and they well feel sorry for them. And please Pokémon maker, make an ep like this one, do to ash and goh are monster and they are hurting team rocket all they time with thunderbolt.

BW TR is ruined because the animators got rid of Wobbufett.
I'm sorry Long, but they have been ruined since the beginning of the anime. BW were okay I guess, but they didn't use the potential given.
