I have been using Reaper for years and didn't know about this plugin... thanks for the tutorial !

Great stuff. Figured put how to hook up the Helix as a Midi CC controller to start/stop/reset loops. So realistically there are a few things I would like. 1. Play/Record/overlay/reset as separate functions, also the ability to easily select which loop you are working on without destroying it's contents! 2. The ability to have FX in each 'looper' and 3. A way of bouncing all the current playing loops to a mixed loop (ie just mix everything and put it into one loop including what's already on the mix loop). This would be a killer live looper then and would probably compete with the loop-station kinds of products. The biggest issue I see is that fact that it automatically destroys the recorded contents. This is not how loopers always work.

Highly recommend the Nektar Pacer pedalboard. I have one, also comes with a profile for transport control in Reaper! Plus it is highly customizable like reaper.

Thank you for this video. I have been using Ableton Live as a guitar looper for a while, but I'm not in love with it the same way as I am with REAPER.

Hey Jon I have a fix the problem you described at 18:38, where the loops get added to the wrong track by an increment of 1 because of the use of a folder. The folder is actually track 1 and that is where Super8 sends the first track. I really liked your set up and wanted the folder as well. It's a pretty easy fix. Click 'edit' in the Super8 plug in. Scroll to the bottom of the script. Look for 'tidx = idx = 0'. We need to make 'tidx =1' and keep idx=0, so just make the line read 'tidx = 0;' and then make a new line affter it and have it read 'idx = 0;' . That's it, just close the script window and you will be prompted to save. Say yes. Now your set up works with all the right loops being sent to the right tracks. Works for stereo or mono in any combination. Hope this helps someone in the future. (Note enter only what is between the quote marks.) You may want to make a copy of the entire script incase you make a mistake and get lost. It's just a text file.

Thank you for the tutorial. Its taken me years to appreciate how powerful Reaper is. My quest for a linux software looper that doesn't melt my brain keeps leading back to Reaper. This is the third method I've seen, and maybe the most approachable so far.
I made a six-button midi footswitch with an Arduino Uno. Not complicated, and can be easily reprogrammed. There are newer Arduinos and Teensy boards that can be made to output usb-midi easier than the Uno. Maybe you can find a footswitch solution in a homemade project?

    great thank you!
2 Things came to my mind:
    1. i believe, if you record a loop longer (let's say 4 bars - which puts the second half on top on a second layer) then the chosen length (lets say 2 bars) in one take and double it (no-rep) it will stretch the 4 bars to the whole length instead of filling it with blank
    2. i wonder what happens when you undo (ctrl+Z) and redo. would you then be able to toggle on/off the second layer you recorded on top?

I have tried to use Super 8 to have my edrum kit trigger the different pre-recorded loops so I could play along to the loops. I needed to break a song down into its component parts and put them into loops. Intro, verse, courus outro, that way I could extend each loop on repeat till the next loop is triggered. The first hurdle is breaking a mp3 file into loops, this takes Reaper editing skills beyond my present knowledge. Second it requires midi note or CC knowledge to assign each loop a control message from my edrum kit. This was all done by Roland 20 years ago with their TD-12 modules except they used midi sequencing driving a GM internal synthesizer, so they didn't have to try and seamlessly break a mp3 song in to repeatable and extendable loops, the just triggered midi pre-recorded midi sequences. If you can point me to a video that shows how to use Super 8 with an edrum kit please let me know.

There is another Reaper plugin called Realearn. What it does is that you can assign any CC element (fader, knob, pad, etc.) to any Reaper parameter that makes sense. Maybe you can program your e-kit to trigger different tracks or Super8 instances?

Does anybody know if there is a way to bind controller button or pedal to the latch mode button? Also, wondering if anybody could shed more light on the monitor channel (channel 9). Every tutorial I've looked at says it exists, but then say "I don't use it." If it just a mono mix of all the playing loops with know ability to change the volume level between them?

Is there anyway to "automatically" add to project, so that we can actually record a live performance in multitrack?

I was just messing around with that... I set Tracks (guitars/vocal) and SEND them to the Super 8 Channel to record... then SEND the Super 8 to another Channel that records the progression.

Super8 does not record MIDI, but from your question, I think what you want to achieve is record and loop MIDI-generated 'audio' (such as by using a VST), which is very much possible in Super8.
On a separate track with your MIDI controller selected as input, you would have the desired VST instrument(s) loaded (Fx). Simply route that track to the particular channel on the Super8 track. As easy as that!
      Cheers :-)

I think Kenny actually uses a VST synth in his Super8 tutorials!
I had once loaded VST drums to a channel and used the beat to set the initial length of the loop. There are endless possibilities. And a lot of flexibility :-)

Hi there, thank you so much for all your first class videos. My query is not related to this subject. I have the Behringer 1820 interface and the Behringer ADA 8200 connected by optical light pipes( I got the 8200 so I can leave the drums mics set up). But... I cant get any monitor output from the 8200 in Reaper. I would be very grateful for any suggestions/solutions.
    Many thanks,
    Pete from Auchtermuchty, Scotland.

@@EasyHeat I think both Justin and Kenny, in their respective tutorials on Super8, recommend saving the initial setup as a template, so you don't have to create so many tracks and do the routing every time. This might speed up your work :-)
