- Shoutout to channel member Mark who was playing around with this and was talking about it in his face to face session recently. The simple but very effective idea of changing up the hi-hat flow in 4/4 grooves to add musical interest and variety.

You are so right about the hi-hat maneuvers. Without changing the GROOVE up much, the hi-had can certainly change the feeling and movability of the beat without messing with that solid bass/snare feel and thump that some music requires. Teaching the variations is such a great way to change up the mood of a simple backbeat. Bravo.
When I think of hi hat wizardry I think of Stewart Copeland. All I can here is the into to walking on the moon and then the syncopated cross stick on the snare 😍! Great video as always.
I believe that the syncopation you like so much was actually studio delay effect...
Not saying he isn't great, as he's in my top 10. But SC used a lot of effects and overdubs on a lot of the drum tracks we know and love...
Funny enough, I came to this video immediately following Drumeo’s “Genius of Stewart Copeland” video. Which is fantastic in many ways, but being blown away by his hihat skills is what stuck in my head. When I saw this video I thought “make me slay the hihats like Copeland!”
@@LeeLeatherbarrow yea I know he loved to use a lot of that stuff. He made it sound so good. I’m not a drummer so excuse me if my terminology here is wrong but I was referring to the bit where he plays the hihat in one time signature and the cross stick snare in a different time signature. I think I’ve heard it be called 3 over 2 but I may be wrong so correct me if that’s the case. Love Stewart Copeland!
great!
well taught for the beginners
