You failed:) These reasons to not move to Maine are quite weak. With little traffic, little polution, low to no crime, nice people ... Where I am I have nearly everything I listed in the form of a con with ticks, insects, mud and a lot more. It seems there are plenty of reasons to move to Maine.
I think if you're an optimistic person Maine is great! You have the beach, the forest, rivers, even Portland Maine downtown area is better than most larger city downtowns. I moved there from the West Coast and loved it at first, since I lived in a desert climate and it has so many trees. I was in love with the eastern promenade. Being able to go on little adventures to different places nearby like rivers and lakes. The summer is gorgeous probably the best in the country. The year I was there at least. It rains a lot but you can't beat the 70 to 80 degrees weather. San Diego is probably the only place that competes...and seeing the beautiful foliage in fall! The negative for me was the ppl. I never made like close friends there but I feel like the older I get, being a nomadic person who moves a lot, I have to learn more and more to enjoy my own company
Thank you for your honesty! We visit Maine a lot and would love to relocate there. We understand about the bugs for sure!! Hadn't thought about mud season though. Thank you!
I have lived in many places including Maine and can tell you the worst mosqito problems I have seen was in the coastal regions of Texas . Arkansas has the worst tick problems .
Actually, we have tick problems here now too. There don't seems to be as many birds as there once was due to pesticides (They kl migratory birds who stop on farmland to rest and become poisoned - and from people spraying poisonous bug killer in their yards, not realizing that it kills ALL bugs, even beneficial ones, and small animals, like our squirrels, rabbits, birds, and beneficial bats as well). Best thing to encourage birds & bats by putting up houses and a bird feeder, keeping your grass short, and raking your leaves around your house in the Fall. That's made can big difference for us, and we live deep in the woods.
Growing up in coastal Connecticut the first thing people would say when you mentioned Maine was that they would never live there because it's too cold.I moved to Maine as an adult and because of climate change our winters are milder than the Connecticut winters I grew up with.
The bugs are only a problem when the wind stops blowing like at night.... two hurricane lanterns filled with citronella keeps the bugs away... paint your fly screens with kerosene to keep the black flys out... the quiet can be far too loud for some people.

I'm from Maine but the military moved us to Southern California when I was a kid and my life was made there. My dad and I weren't huge fans of California and wanted to go back when he retired, but my mom was never leaving California to go back to the cold. I still have complaints about California and have considered moving elsewhere, including Maine and other places on the East Coast, but can never do it primarily due to the bugs. One amazing thing about California is being able to enjoy the outdoors and great weather without the swarms and bug spray. Yes, there are animals to watch out for, but at least they aren't disease-carrying bloodsuckers swarming you. I'm a car guy and it's also nice to be able to enjoy my car yearround without it getting so dirty and rusty on roads not quite so weather-damaged.
The "melting snow" does not create mud season... melting frost does ! We have mud season here in Vermont too and one thing that makes the roads better in Spring is a good rain ! Go figure.
Just came across your channel. We live in Rockingham County and are planning to start construction of our new Maine home within months. I notice your videos use a drone shot over the nubble light. In the distance you can literally see the little dot that is the tear down we are about to replace. 😊 So please keep up your stream of videos telling people about all the awful downsides of living in Maine. Then the line at the Central will be shorter. BTW Troy got us the property.

I rather know now the ugly and uncomfortable things living in Maine before I buy the house. Now what I need to know is how to prepare for the Winter including my own snow plow on my truck.
I want to retire in Maine and I am familiar with Maine, love all the seasons including the long winters. I grew up in Connecticut but my family has lived in Maine for a couple of hundred years, settled some towns and counties. Anything named Lincoln is my family. However, I have never lived in Maine. My wife, an Oklahoma native and lived in Texas for the past 30 years, wants nothing to do with Maine. I have taken her there on vacations; Portland, Freeport, Bar Harbor, and Presque Isle, and she loves the Summers only. Any advice? I was thinking about living in the Portland area, Wells, or Kennebunkport.
I almost forgot. If you have a farm and a dog you'd better mark all your animals anyway you can because during hunting season out of state hunters show up. They have no idea what they are shooting and will kill anything. Cows, dogs and I know of a case where a women was wearing fur gloves and was killed. They will shoot your pet ducks on your pond right in front of you. Nothing is off limits!!!!!!!!
@@EpicDrew15 so you’re a Boomerang? That’s how it usually goes. Kids grow up hating Maine and can’t wait to see the world then realize they can’t afford to be anywhere else when they’re old. Welcome home!
Black flies = fleas with wings. Mosquitoes, frost heaves, and five months of cold dark misery called "winter". As the locals say, "If you can't take the winters, you don't deserve the summers." Nice place to visit. Occasionally.
All of these things apply where I'm at in Upstate NY. Except the sea food. We don't really have much of that here since the great lakes are basically poisoned.
I moved to Montana from Massachusetts in 1997. Got a job delivering oxygen all over Montana. After delivering the oxygen to other plants. And getting to know the people. I would joke with them while unloading. One 4th generation Montana person I dealt with said. Do you know what we call people from Massachusetts around here. I said no. He says we call them massholes. I said do not blame you. That's is why I left Massachusetts. I feel the same way. They were everywhere.
Yes. Many Massholes, Summer people moved up here during rona. Mass, NY, Jersey, CT -all pricks, driving like maniacs, beeping and road raging, distracted, and their spoiled, entitled, bratts blare music and run over animals because they speed recklacely down our old, narrow, carriage roads. They bring their bad attitudes, and the worst part, the Leftist politics that destroyed the state they're from. They take zero responsibility for what they did (learned nothing -too arrogant), bring drugs, and proceed to try and make Maine like where they're from. I really don't understand why they don't just go to Vermont or Southern NewHampshire, where they can commiserate amidst their own W/Jokers. Aside from Portland, Maine's MAGA country! God, family, and the Constitution & rights therein (2A). We protect our children from groomers here, and believe in the traditional American values, morals, and ethics that made our Republic the greatest in the world. And, we will defend it when push comes to shove, so all I can say is, don't come if you're virtue signalling, Leftst, turd.
The bugs are unreal in Maine. The mosquitoes are so bad they will bite you through blue jeans. Black flies are ridiculous. During black fly season if it rains the black flies disappear and then the mosquitoes move in. Been there done that. No thanks!!!!!! Also you'd better enjoy cold temperatures, snow and mud in that order.
Winter in Maine is actually be favorite, you get snow and you keep it. Being a masshole I can visit the Cape during black fly season and Maine in August is pretty nice but winter is worth it for sure.
I live in Eastern Tennessee close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and trust me, I feel your pain when it comes to tourists. But they bring billions in tax revenue for the state.
The weather. I’m from Northern Maine. I’ve heard a lot of older friends tell me that just can’t take another winter up here. They are cold and long. I tell people who are planning to move here that they should spend two weeks in January up here first. It’s hard to explain…
… and then there’s Notthern Maine. Black flies and mesquitoes yes, but few tics, few tourists, and a lot of peace and quite. A lot of folks from the “County”, would be fine if south of Bangor were its own state. Northern Maine and south/coastal Maine share little in common, including political ideology. Because the bulk of the state population is in the south. The people up north are marginalized.
