Real ones remember the days where ad points were actually marked on the video scroll line.
i would be ok with mandatory ads injected and unskpable if they werent half the time for spyware or scams
Real ones remember when youtube didn't even have ads. When they were first implemented you could hit F5 a few times to refresh the page until the ad didn't play.
@@StevenHawkingsSpitrag you've just activated some really deep memories in my head. i was like 6 around that time (not entirely sure), but i do remember that trick

Google has never paid me a dime for my data they're selling, I see ad block on YT as an even trade off
RUclips accepted the terms of use when I signed up to their platform that 80% of all data-sale earnings made off my data go to my pocket.

I think you have a misunderstanding about how business works. The company doesn't pay the customer, it's the other way around.
@@PvtAnonymous We aren't the customers. We are the product.
@@PvtAnonymous Yes but that's only if the company is selling that customer the product. Google is instead taking our data (the product), and selling it to other people, so we should be inclined to a fair balance.
I feel like the right to refuse an advertisement should be a human right
Where is the like x10000 button
I have this thought at least once a day, cheers
I know right? People talk about adblock and advertising a lot but it's so rare that anyone talks about the inherent immorality of advertising. If it succeeds, a person who was likely perfectly happy and functional loses money (which unfortunately is essentially equivalent to life) and gains something they literally don't need, or makes them any happier or more functional. If it fails, you've just wasted everyone's time.
RUclips set out to make more money. Now if this is true, no company will make money 😂
There are ads around us but it's not constant like RUclips's. I see an ad like someone drinking Coca Cola, they don't have a fricken musical number, plus I don't have to watch them drink soda for 30s. I can look away and see another ad, and when I see a relevant ad, I spend 30s or more on it. Even twitch has banner ads on the sides of the video because the main content is the streamer, selling promotions and stuff. Why not just play banner ads on the side without sound, then sometimes play those ads with annoying audio. Literally nails on a chalkboard.
Thing is, I didn't mind watching ads in 2014, when they were 5/10 seconds long or 30 seconds long but skippable. But today, there's no way I'm sitting through 2 minutes of ads in a 10 minute video. I never used ad block until youtube started grouping multiple ads together.
that is the exact same reason i got a blocker. Give us a few ads here and there and i can guarantee that if they had done that instead of dozens of ads less then a 10th of the people using blockers now would have used them at all
@@lilfox747 One time I got 45 minutes of unskipable ad for 10 minute video
Agree 100%, I didn't mind ads when it didn't ruin my youtube experience. Nowadays there's just a frustrating amount of ads, I don't wanna watch more ads than videos
Sometimes I get two (2!!) 15 second non-skippable ads
If the Ai that is watching you 24/7 realises when you fall asleep during a video, it will launch you 30-240 min ads every ad for you. I was watching a 1h long video and fallen asleep once and after i woke up 9h later, i have "watched" 33 min of the video... the rest was ads.
It's ironic that guidelines say that you must watch ads, the same ads that are infamous for breaking said guidelines.
Type shit.
That's one thing that gets me. Like bruh.
We are not running "ad blockers;" we are "preventing malvertisement lures in our environment."
Some of the ads also lead to some very dicey sites lol.
A couple years ago I got a legitimate cam website ad. I'm sure it was a one time slip up and likely won't ever happen again (at least to me anyway), but it was still wild and I was thankful I was at home for it.
It's hilarious how these companies STILL don't seem to get it.
If we get forced to watch ads too much, we leave.
If they start injecting ads into ever-cost-increasing streaming services, we leave.
If they keep increasing the price of the services, we leave.
And for those who asks "But how will you watch movies then ?"
Ah me boy, I'm from the time before streaming-services. We all put on a fancy hat and pull out our Cutlass.....

Meh, I'll go to reading hour at the library, watch some local LARPers, I don't have to watch RUclips.
Honestly, I'll be happy to see the rise of local community, which they technically fear us actually being a united community more than us stop paying and stop watching, so bring it.
Yohoho!

You know, maybe people would be willing to view ads if they weren’t:
1) so shoved down everyone’s throats and so ridiculously omnipresent
2) weren’t advertising porn, malware, and scams
3) weren’t so intrusive and personal
They have zero moderation for what gets advertised and still get pissy when people aren’t bending over and taking all the ads with a smile on their face. The goddamn FBI is telling people to use Adblock and RUclips still insists it’s against TOS, they need to be sued for literally advertising scams and 18+ material on their website, but we all know they won’t change or get sued
It would also help if the ads at least matched the content a little bit. I've watched quiet videos to calm and relax, only to be interrupted by the loudest, most obnoxious crap on the site. It's the main reason why I use downloaders.
REAL, THE ONLY GOOD AD I SAW IS THE SAMSUNG AD WHICH HAS THE AI TRANSLATE FEATURE AND ANOTHER ONE W A CAMERA FEATURE AND I ACTUALLY EVEN SAVED THEM IN SOME PLAYLIST CUZ IDKK, THE QUALITY IS GOD DAMN GOOD AND THEIR FUN TO WATCH, I MISS THESE ADS😭😭😭😭

All above 100%. I will add that goog is a censorious, spying, propaganda pushing, effstick company. And for all those reasons, eff them
One day, you'll have to watch an ad to enter your own house...
"You can unlock your door after this 20 seconds ad!"
20 seconds seem reasonable.

Regularly surfing the internet through ad block literally saves you hours and hours of your life.
Yeah it's so bad these days that it's sometimes difficult to sit through and watch a MoistCritical video because he doesn't use an adblocker, which just highlights the actual need for an adblocker.
Anytime I have to use a browser/device/individual site without an ad-blocker, I remember just how ludicrous the ad situation on most web pages has become...I understand they have to pay the bills somehow, but the number of ads is obscene, not only making viewing content painful (this is on sites beyond RUclips), but slowing down pages as well.
@@yellowblanka6058 I had to download an ad-blocker browser app on my phone because most site were almost unreadable because half of my screen would be taken by ads, giving me barely 4-5 lines of text to actually read, and a lot of time while scrolling up or down it pulls up ads over everything. It's truly a nightmare to browse.
Don't care
@@EatinPaste he probably does in private, he just doesnt want you to use them when watching his videos.
You know it's bad when the FBI recommends people use adblockers
It's because of all the *_malware_* that comes from ads, including the kind you don't even have to interact with, merely _having the malicious ad be chosen to load_ on an entirely mundane page is enough to get you cryptolockered. Google knows this, and Google _wants it to keep happening_ because they get kickbacks from "looking the other way" and allowing malicious ads in the AdSense network.
The glowies know what's up
they cant force people to supprot governments, lol. big mistake to use fbi like that.
i wouldnt trust the fbi either
I have right now both AdBlock Plus and the native Opera addblocker on; And I will tell you, It's HILARIOUS to see every video taking 5-8 seconds to load in because RUclips's scripts are actively fighting a war against both layers of defense. Brave Browser can do It natively (and better mind you), but the war is basicaly the same. It's like watching Goku vs Jiren at 25fps.
If they put it back to 1 ad with a 5 second skipable ad I’ll watch it
Sometimes, YT creator scumbags buy ads to put their 20 minute videos as ads. This is ridiculous.
@@PyromancerRift At that point just choose their video on the right and click ''do not recommend this channel'' and don't watch them ever again.
I won't lol. That would be 10000x better than what we have now but I still refuse to watch it.
@@PyromancerRift I just click off of those videos and dislike
nah i won't watch it anymore, they wanted to be greedy so they'll pay back the time they stole with those long double unskippable 30s ads for everyone, i'm never going back
I remember when RUclips ads consisted of little banners scattered around the web page. I'd look at them while the video was loading or during a section I found boring. then they started putting 1 at the start of a video, but at least you could skip it. but then you couldn't, as well it became common to have a long ad or 2 before the video. what ultimately got me using ad blockers was a combination of rural internet and poor optimization, leading to the ad being the only thing the website would load
The FBI recommends using an adblocker, that should be a big sign to folks on how insidious ads on the net currently are.
Is there a source that states that? I'm not doubting it but this topic definitely peeked my interest and I want to read more into it haha

And the dark web is another 20%, NSFW is another 19.99%, and the 0.01% is everything you know that is the internet.
dead internet theory
And sponsor companies taking up 50% of a video 😒
i miss when ads could be seen in the video timestamps. And not only that. It could be more than one ad, but never in the same place.
The twitter screenshot of "What is the first thing you watch" and someone replying RUclips with "2 unskippable ads" is just so real
Case in point. I used to use RUclips on my phone while I was out doing yard work. Stuff like Mowing, trimming the weeds, painting and all of that. I'd often put on longer commentary videos or even just music. I can't say I know for certain that they detect these type of things.. but I swear they have something setup to detect when your hands are full and just lay the ads on you like a jackhammer, though this is a different point
After getting sick and tired of dealing with random 3-5 minute long ads popping up in my feed, tired of having to fish my phone out of my pockets just to skip an ad, spending more time trying to skip ads than doing work. I got fed up with it. It was particularly irksome when I'm in an area with low signal/bad bandwidth.. That for some odd reason, the ads would ALWAYS play. They play at higher quality than the videos I'm on, they don't have to load, it's like youtube pre-installed their ad on my phone to give it priority, that way even if you can't watch your video, you can watch their ad.
The even funnier part is that they had the nerve to put Survey questions in their advertisements asking things like "are you satisfied with the length of advertisements you're usually shown?" "How helpful do you find the advertisements we've been showing you?" "How likely are you to" You get the picture..
Anyways, currently gonna try Spotify, if anyone has any better app recommendations let me know.
SoundCloud? Using this app, it's not bad in my opinion.
youtube to mp3 is generally my go to, since I use data I can't exactly afford to watch 10 minute 1080p ads in public transport.

YMusic if you download MP3s.
I use Brave Web browser. They have a thing where when you go to a RUclips video, you can save it to the browser's playlist, to which you can play offline and without ads.
It's funny how they act like we are the villians for using ad block when most of the ads on this platform are either scams or misleading mobile game ads. People have complained about this before to RUclips but they never listened. This is all their fault.

In Norway, it’s illegal for adds that have gambling, sex and alcohol in it on ANY media including internet sites that are specifically Norwegian. RUclips basically says haha no
YouTuba as the global leviathan it is, simply dosen't care about laws of small countries. Norway also isn't in the EU, so even if they would threat to block YT, they simply wouldn't care. Nations need to stick together to regulate the modern tech giants, only nations like the US or China can regulate companies like that on their own.
Sadly, i don't see the nations of the world to take this problem serious enough to work together - yet.
My only hope is when new generations get into politics, at some point this will change. Until that we have to fight back with technical counter measures like adblock.
Okay?

Actually, this isn't as bad as people think. If they're embedding it into the video itself then that means its subject to how the player functions... meaning you can just skip it by manually moving the track bar.
Likewise, if at certain points it just randomly plays ads then adblock works.
Simply put, even though they found a way around adblockers it just means people have to pay attention to the videos they watch to skip ads.
@@xXDoUbLeDDXx38 Who said anybody was my guy
If the ad is part of the stream, there will be two options: The server sends data where the ad is or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, it’s like a sponsored segment that the viewer can just skip like any other part of a video (this is how it is with some podcasts on Spotify). Ads usually can’t be skipped, and for that have to be marked in some shape or form, but then, ad blockers can use that information and distinguish content and ads.
I run 5 different adblocks to be sure that every website I go on, none of the cookies, ads or pop-ups come through.
It all was acceptable at first, but since 80% of the ads are scams or irrelevant to me. I couldn't find the point or use to keep watching and seeing them. Not to mention how many times I see the same ad over and over again. If I see the same ad 4 times in a video of 10 minutes, that is very annoying.
An other thing I have to add, is that I live in a country where multiple languages are spoken and VPN is forbidden to use. I am unable to speak or understand all the languages that my country has, but ofcourse the ad distribution system or whatever it is, does not care about which part of my country I live. So most of the times, I'll see ads that I don't even understand, which makes it even more annoying.
Is forbidding VPN a thing? What kind of country does that? Can you use uBlock Origin?

Why can’t we class action RUclips. If Blocking ads is against the terms of service and 90% of the ads are malicious scams, RUclips should be held liable and complacent in criminal activity, and there fire should be charged with fraud.

@@filonin2 Thus the class action suite.
It would never happen in the US bc we've barely done anything to regulate the internet in favor of the people. The only regulations that have been passed are those that the corporate entities paid to force through congress and the FCC. If they were to apply existing regulation to the internet as exists for the radio/tv it would actually address what's going on. For example, if you create content for a Japanese based YT channel, they can try to force you to abide by Japanese laws which favor the corporation infinitely more than US law does. Yet if you create content for a Japanese tv channel in the US, they have to follow US and state laws to the letter or they would be outright banned from operating within the US. This has been a serious issue for a couple subsets of streamers/content creators, largest currently being vtubers.
Google is due owned and CIA run. Good luck with that.
@@uumanebs At this point it’s no longer about regulation. RUclips (and by extension google) at this time have been negligent to the point where criminal activity is just flat out okay on RUclips in the form of many of these ads that, by refusing to takedown, may as well make them complicit, pretty sure that kind of stuff is illegal in way more than just the US.
I might just delete YT off my phone altogether and focus entirely on other sites and streaming services. Maybe I'll play more video games or even watch television for the first time in a decade.
Wait so let me get this straight: Google is against people on RUclips blocking ads that make money for them first and their content creators second, but once a content creator gets sponsored, which makes money exclusively for them, Google will let people use a tool that automatically skips over it, presumably because there's no point in a viewer watching it because it's not making Google any money?
Wow, I am definitely deleting this app, or at least taking a long hiatus. I'm not prepared to deal with this BS and the best way we can hurt them is by hitting them in their pocketbooks and market share. If they don't have enough people on the platform, companies with ads will retract their ads, and maybe Google will tone it down a bit.
RUclips in browser is pretty much identical to the RUclips app, just use that instead, with adblock

They were playing ads on channels they told were "not suitable for any advertisers"... I think The Quartering was one who showed their email, and half the comments on that video were "but I just got ads in this video".
That's what really got me mad. Not that they had decided to demonetize politically opposed people, but that they lied to them and continued playing ads to make money for themselves.
That was what lead me to find Vanced back in the day.
Yep. Years ago unmonetized creators like myself could choose to not have ads play on our videos, but at some point YT started playing ads on them anyway and keeping 100% of the revenue. That part in particular doesn't set right with me.
I remember my brother and I would watch videos 2008ish and there was 1 ad every 4 vids or so. And if it was a longer ad (3-5 mins) we would let it play to “give the youtubers a nickel.” we would say. Then we’d run to the bathroom, grab a snack, do part of a chore etc. Then we’d come back when the ad finished, pause it, finish our tasks. Then we’d come back to a fully loaded, ad free video.
Beautiful, engaging, not frustrating. I wish youtube was still like that. Sometimes I do that system where I will let an ad play while I grab something. But the video never fully loads and I’ll unpause it and it immediately plays another ad.
if you aren't there to get tortured with those boring àss ads, then you get punished by getting queued to 100 other hours of áds
From RUclips's standpoint, ad views like that were useless. I wouldn't be surprised they made it that way to actually make sure you are present when an ad is shown.
Nah! This video sat in my watch later for a few days and I still came back to a great video!!!!
The only reason I installed Adblock was because the ads got to the point of being very intrusive. They overdid it, to their peril.
I didn't start using adblock till about two years ago. The ads not just on RUclips, but everywhere you go have just become so unbearable that it's impossible to read an article without getting an ad thrown at you every minute. The entire internet has been rendered basically unusable without some sort of adblock for your browser.
So to add to the dead internet theory, its not only 90% bots but also 90% ads killing it
Absolutely. My friends and boyfriend were shocked when I installed adblock on their PCs and had them use it for a few weeks, then told them to turn it off and see the difference. Most of them were absolutely shocked by how many ads they were suddenly seeing. I think people have gotten desensitized to the amount of ads and pop-ups they're really seeing every time they browse the internet, to the point that they're surprised when they have adblock and their browsing experience is so clean and simple. No videos in the corner, moving gif ads, loud autoplay, scams, or constant noise.
@@arson7012 What adbock do you use that works on YT?
Much of the internet has always been funded by ads. This has happened before - there was a time when the big problem was increasingly aggressive pop-ups and the hated pop-under, leading to sites becoming unusable due to the number of clicks required to close them all. It got so bad that every browser developer simply disabled the ability to launch pop-up windows without a triggering interaction.
@@vylbird8014I remember that…early 2000s internet was terrible.
My family uses RUclips on our living room tv, not signed-in. It is almost unwatchable with how RUclips’s ad system works. You always have an ad before the video, a 10ish minute video will have 3 ads that are extremely louder than the video then there’s an ad when the video ends. The ads being 5-times louder than the video is a fucking sin the lord cannot forgive, I swear our brand new speakers will be blown out before the end of the year.
the youtube ad managers should probably learn about something called "sensory overload"
P.S. sensory overload is similar to overstimulation; when something is too loud or too flashing or bright
RUclips TV has waaay too many ads, ive gotten 5 unskippable ads in a row before.
@@alexzgreat133 same
If a video is like 45 minutes, you will get 1 minute of unskippable ads
Ads being louder if anything is a threat to ear sensitive people
The HUGE issue with RUclips’s Adblock war is that to combat it they just put more and more ads on their site, this makes it so more and more people will start using adblockers. There’s a giant circle of
User is buried in ads > user downloads adblocker > RUclips starts putting more ads > more users gradually download adblockers
And what I don’t see many people talk about is the TV version of RUclips. This is the version I mainly use and just about any video you start is swarmed by ads you can skip, or ads that SAY you can skip, but you can’t. I just end up selecting the “About This Ad” button and pressing “Stop seeing this ad” to skip them instantly, but not every ad allows you to do that. The main example that comes to mind is military ads, which are sometimes 30 seconds long and aren’t skip able at all.
Also, I’m gonna just put this on the end, but all ads make me wanna do is boycott the product I’m forced to see for 15 or 30 seconds. I will GO OUT OF MY WAY to NOT USE the product that is shoved down my throat for 30 seconds.
props to bro not putting an ad in this video
It's incredible how sites like RUclips can keep going "People HATE our ads and are trying to block them.... How should we handle this?" and then somehow make the situation even worse than before.
Why is that incredible? They don't care that we don't like them they make money off of them so they're going to try to make us at least play them. It may not be that Black mirror episode where you're forced to keep your eyes on the ad but they do want them to play so they get the money. Because you're not even their customer you're a product to them. Remember if something is free you're the product.
@@MamaMOB It's not so much the concept of the ads themselves but the nature of the absolute scams/phishing sites they allow to run rampant advertising on here, which pulls in untold numbers of hapless victims who know no better than to click on malicious links. Yeah, as a Business they are just trying to make money. But they should know if they don't wanna vet suitable ads then they gotta expect people to want out via adblock. At your end point I do agree, I would preffer to have 3 ads at the start of the video (if it's more than 10 minutes) than being bombarded 3-4 times (sometimes more) every few minutes to skip ads at all
I've gotten 2 minute ads trying to watch my own 30 second videos. I used RUclips on my Switch and watched a movie trailer, getting three or four ads in a row, multiple times and had to stop part way through, swearing to never use the app on Switch again.
If RUclips wants people to dial back on using Adblockers, they need to dial back how much they shove ads in our faces (Not to mention holding said ads to the same restrictions as content creators, the creepy ads need to go). TV adverts are nowhere near as annoying and they have dedicated ad breaks on most channels!

From a users perspective RUclips peaked at around 2010-2012. We had custom profiles with a profile editor, private messages, the motto was "broadcast yourself" and you could decide where and how many ads you wanted to show on your videos.
Yeah, I've got no problem with ads so long as they are either 5 - 10 seconds long or are skippable if they're longer, no not show inappropriate content and are not queued up one after the other. Oh, and not shown at various points during a video. I could (maybe?) understand 2 to 3 on a three hour long video but I think in 99% of cases they should be at the beginning. And Mutahar, much respect for you putting sponsors at the beginning of your videos. Occasionally a youtuber will put a sponsor halfway through their video and it will work if it somehow relates to the overall content of the video but most of the time it's just clunky so I really appreciate you putting yours at the beginnings of your videos.
Their anti-adblocking war is so aggressive that *EVEN THOUGH I PAY FOR PREMIUM TO NOT SEE ADS* they throttled my videos because I had an Adblocker on my Browser. So the whole "if you use an ad blocker allow ads on RUclips or sign up for Premium" thing is totally bullshit. It wasn't until I whitelisted YT that the throttling stopped **again** despite me paying for Premium already.
Stop paying money to this horrible platform. Waste of money. I still don't get any ads and I use the same adblocker I've used for like 12 years - what it does now is it simply skips the ads immediately rather than blocking them entirely or showing any of the content. You just see a black screen that blinks twice (when it skips the video) and your ACTUAL video begins. Cost me $0

Okay, here's the thing ... I'm old enough to remember when cable TV was add-free. We paid for add free service and that's what we got. But then the advertising started. At first just one or two adds between shows, then eventually one ad in the middle, then it was every 6 minutes and finally in the early 2000s there were 30 minutes of advertising in a 2 hour broadcast.
But the last straw was when the ads started being louder than the rest of the programming. ENOUGH!
I got so disgusted with it that I dumped all commercial broadcasting. The TV, the FM receiver, my two AM radios, even my boom box went in the trash. (Not figuratively... literally in the trash). I haven't watched or listened to commercial broadcasting since 2008.
Then the advertising started on the internet. Slowly creeping up until 30% of my screen space was filled with ads for stuff I would never dream of buying. Then the ads started moving, talking and playing music... ENOUGH!
This time I installed ad blockers in my browser and went to downloading ad free entertainment from some rather sketchy places... just to get rid of the onslaught of crap and distraction.
Fast forward to 2024 ... I haven't seen an advertisement in almost 20 years...
Now if RUclips is going to begin server side ad injection that I can't stop... well then I will give up on RUclips entirely. Not just a couple of especially annoying channels... ALL OF IT.

I remember being a kid watching TV in the 80's. There was always commercials expected. That was time for food or bathroom break. HBO or Cinemax was a different story with none. Yeah now everything's advertising all the time everywhere.
