IDK... There is a brutal war in Ukraine, when murderous dictatorship has attacked viciously its smaller neighbor. At least that comes to my mind when I see dark and broken city views of this video. Flashing lights don't remind me lighting but explosions of russian missiles. I'm not sure how does it feel for Ukrainians to hear filthy rich Waters singing from US how he has become "comfortably numb". It is cold and dark in many homes of Ukraine right now, they are suffering and in fear for coming bombings I'm afraid art without meaning is an empty shell, worthless junk
Only those who witnessed this live would understand how powerful this version is: the lights, the visual effects, the sound effects, the enthusiasm of more than 20 thousands people around you... this is just beyond any word I can use to describe it!
I didn't think it was possible to not only reinvent this amazing classic, but to somehow convey a whole new meaning that speaks to this day and age where we stand on the brink. Of what, nobody knows. Absolutely brilliant Roger. Amazing.
I think we're past the brink. Now we're just "waiting for the worms", if you get what i mean by that (if not, read the lyrics of that song). And im not exited for it.
This is one of those songs you need to put on headphones, close your eyes and just listen. It hits different. The thunder, rain and somber music takes you to a dystopian future where you can feel the pain. Everytime the woman at the end starts to sing I get chills all over my body.
Hauntingly depressing visual with beautiful ethereal sound. Still trying to get my soul back into my body after this experience. 🤪 Gorgeous. Edit: Had to come back for more...Man, this one is not a 'remake'... it is a whole creature of its own birthed from the womb of its Mother.
@@70AD-user45 Yes. Notice everyone is looking down with their arm up, probably staring, out of habit at their lifeless phones (looks like no electricity or vehicles), or empty palms...zombies.
Just realised the connection to mobile phones. Zombification of man in a post apocalyptic world where looking down at your palm has been programmed into man. That's Roger Waters. Amazing poet, lyricist, artist, and song writer. Music has never before seen his like.
Well - seeing and hearing that version live on Roger’s current tour was just amazing. The visuals, the sound-effects in surround, the quality, dynamics and volume was just earth-shattering. Wauv.
I'm seeing him play in a couple of days and very much looking forward to hearing this version. It's stunning enough anyway, but I can imagine that seeing it live might even break me. It just seems to encapsulate a lot of what people were going through with lockdowns, as well as Roger's ability to keep his old songs relevant, even to the point of the arrangements and technical aspects of the production.
I have been a fan of PF for many of my 79 years and must admit I thought it impossible to re-create Comfortably Numb without those soaring guitar solos and yet the first time my wife and I stumbled over this recent version by Roger, we fell in love with it even more than our previous favourite which was Roger in Berlin with Van Morrison doing lead vocals. An absolute masterpiece Roger...well done....
Had the privilege of experiencing this live yesterday. The sound was tremendously powerful, 3D and the thunder were at realistic sound pressure. I was blown away
I kinda think that's Roger's point (along with erasing David's contribution, a side benefit for R). The intent is to be made uncomfortable and ill at ease. That difference between expectation and experience is what he's aiming at.
Well Roger, even if you wanted to make it darker, it's heavenly dark. I get chills every time I listen to it and indeed Shanay has a beautiful voice. Thanks for this remake.
I'm a stickler for a reworked classic. Rarely ever like them. Watching this live this summer was absolutely majestic. Thanks for an amazing experience. Flawless musicianship from everyone all night. It was an emotionally charged journey, accompanied by a haunting and hypnotic visual from start to finish.
Musically I prefer the original, but this take has a completely different purpose. Comparing the two is kinda perilous. The original was part of a story. It shared the feelings of a desperate man forced from isolation. Heart-wrenching and painful. This isn't a story, and I don't think it's even meant to be enjoyed. It's an alert, a call to action. It's meant to motivate change. Will it be as effective at that goal as the original was at its goal? I hope so.
@Renzor... I did not expect the concert (saw him here in KC) to start this way, but damn it got me ready for the rest of the show. I'm also elated this got published too.
Sadly, I think the people who most need to heed this warning are the people who are least likely to hear it. I think it's up to us to live our lives in a good way, whatever that means to each of us, and show others by example what it looks like when a life is well lived. Far more people will be affected that way. (It also comes across as less preachy.)
Sobbed through the whole of Roger’s Manchester concert. Couldn’t quite comprehend being in the presence of someone so musically influential. I fucking love Roger
I so much appreciate the love, time and affection you have dedicated to my career all this years and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate you in person. Where are you watching from?
A different version, totally different but truly goosebumps especially if you listen to it with headphones. The female vocals are truly the TOP. A version that makes you think .... think .... fly. Personally, even if I was expecting a totally different version, .... like it
I agree with u with the female vocalist she sounds amazing and powerful on this track however she been overshadowed by the fact there is no guitar solo I try not compair with the original and take it as a diffrent take
You said it Roger...."Together we stand, divided we fall". Pink Floyd was always more than the sum of their individualities.Your endearing darkness is profoundly artistic and I respect your version of the song.
I like this version, but it is David’s solo that moves me to tears in your original collaboration. This version has its merits, but for me the versions where David Gilmour does extended solos are the absolute cream of the crop.
The original Comfortably Numb is probably my favorite Pink Floyd song and I think this version is phenomenal! The dark depth and the plodding rhythm, the soul wrenching vocals at the end make it an entirely new experience. Thank you, Roger, for this reimagining!
I so much appreciate the love, time and affection you have dedicated to my career all this years and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate you in person. Where are you watching from?
Holy shit. I don’t know why I didn’t listen to this earlier. That’s haunting. I’ll say it. This is tied for best recording of comfortably numb right with the version on Pulse. You and David both made this song into something legendary. Fighting or not. Be proud of that.
Forever and always a David Gilmour girl first (my dad was a guitarist).... but this is bloody amazing. Dark Side of the Moon has been the soundtrack of my entire life, I was born just 3 days before it was released and is still some of the very first music I remember (I have a white vinyl copy from the original run). I know this is from The Wall, but it was also in my father's hi-fi upon release.... and it taught me how to get through the trauma crisis that was my life both then and now. This version is so iconic for the reflection of the time in which we are in today. Thank you Roger, and thank you everyone who put it together.
I so much appreciate the love, time and affection you have dedicated to my career all this years and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate you in person. Where are you watching from?
I do not argue about the greatness of the song, it is simply a masterpiece. But congratulations on the video making, really wonderful! You deeply touched my sensitivity
Such a great opener to "This Is Not A Drill..." Was fortunate enough to see it live during the first show in July. It makes me think of the society we live in today in how grim it can be at times. But we have those to help us and push through some dark times. Keep on inspiring people Roger!
a mi me voló la cabeza, siempre he pensado que comfortably numb es la mejor canción para cerrar un concierto, pero escucharla al inicio del This Is Not a Drill, en esta versión mas tranquila y ambientalizada fue una experiencia completamente surreal
Seeing this and experiencing it in concert as it opened Roger's show, sent chills through my body. It was such an amazing experience that I will always remember, thank you!
I would love to experience this at one of his "happenings". l feel the word "gig" or "concert" cannot even begin to describe what a person must feel during this awakening. Yes, you'll have that memory for the rest of your life & that is untouchable.
I'm speechles. I love the original and so my husband sent me the link. I sit here, captivated through the whole song. The tuning, the tempo, the voices, the visuals and the sound effects create an atmosphere, so hauntingly beautyful, I'm stunned 👏👏👏.
It's very gloomy, dark, depressing, apocalyptic, and very Roger Waters. Although even by Roger's standards it's very dark. It's even darker than THE WALL. It's a reflection on the times we're living in, or how at least Roger sees the dystopian world, which is not in the future because it's here already. It must be tough being Roger Waters.
My husband also sent me the link. Already loved the original, but this version is even more beautiful. The music, the visuals, voices, everything. As you described it best, "hauntingly beautiful" 😊🤘
Roger, you managed to remove from my favourite song what I reckon is the best guitar solo ever. Nevertheless, what you have now gifted us is another masterpiece. I am speechless and with goosebumps. Standing ovation. I really hope you'll tour New Zealand again soon. Please!
The original version has always led me to tears because of yours and David’s work, his solo just spoke volumes to me. This version, even though there’s no guitar solo, was set to amaze as well. I won’t lie and say that a guitar solo wasn’t missed, the original is still my number one and it would make so much sense here too, but Shanay Johnson’s vocals gave me shivers and really brought tear to my eyes. Before listening, I thought “Mr. Waters, take the wheel” and you really did, so glad Johnson came along.
I really think this version depicts very well the Comfortably Numb concept it was intended, it has these eerie background sounds that could easily be part of The Wall movie :)
i saw the show this summer. as soon as i heard the first lyrics my heart skipped a beat, i cried, had goosebumps, it was a magical moment. Comfortably numb always been my favorite song and i got it tattooed on my arm, withthis version i still love it, more and more, i am so glad that he made this studio version! thank you so much Roger
i am 24 years old ,i prefer your music than modern music . This is version Comfortably numb is Awesome thanks you , Grandpa Roger , greetings from Kazakhstan!
While I do think it's lacking something important without the guitars, this is still a fantastic arrangement. I especially appreciate the samples from Echoes.
OH MY DAYS Roger! I’m a Gilmore fanatic, but adore you all! How just how have you re-written this without the guitar solo??????? One of the most legendary riffs of all time! You bloody genius! It was ethereal, moving, and the word written and sang were just like the guitar ‘weeping for help’. I adore this version. Got goosebumps watching it ‘at the bar’ in the cinema. Thank you so very very much! What an experience. Wow how do you keep doing it?! We would all adore you town to speak, but too much water under the bridge now (pun lol)! Sad as the whole message of this concert was that! Back to this version, the only comparison I can make is Gary Moore still got the blues, or Prince purple rain without the guitar solo. It shouldn’t work, but it does. We’ve now got an epic brand new version. One is NOT better than the other. They’re incomparable…… it gave me the feeling of Echoes in Pompeii, and High Hope! God bless you 😘❤🌈🙏
The fact that he released this gives me hope he’ll also release The Powers That Be, that was my favorite of the changed songs in the concert, so to hear it again in good quality, possibly studio quality, would bring me much joy.
That was probably the highlight of the concert for me, as far as which song blew my mind...Never in a million years did I expect to hear The Powers That Be played live in 2022. However, the odds of Roger releasing a new version of The Powers That Be are probably 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000...
I absolutely love this version it feels like animals, echoes and all of Roger's emotions plugged into one track. I just wish it had a solo, but at the end of the day, it is still a masterpiece regardless.
@@jacobvanveit3437 yea I still love it for that reason for me this song paid homage to other albums and felt like when Johnny Cash did “hurt”. There was wisdom, experiences, emotions, and pain in that song. It felt like Animals tried to warn us, and this song was the aftermath…
What you did when you wrote this song was literally being light years away from everything that was done at that time. This theme is timeless. I listened to it when I was little, I listen to it when I am older (54 years old) and my grandchildren will listen to it. This version is beautiful, believe me... but nothing compares to the solo that David Gilmour did. During all these years, what I love the most is the ease that you have to transform. Congratulations and thank you for giving us so much quality material.Hopefully someone will continue your work that for years has opened the minds of millions of people. Long live you, Mr. Rogers!
Gilmour's solo is great and we can all hear it on the originals. It's wonderful Roger is still with us and busily creating and we have a new version for the current times.
I had the luck to see this is not a drill tour twice. In London and Prague. Both times this opener touched my soul so much and it’s just such a perfect version to open the concert with. So happy I experienced this live♥️
I've been to alot of concerts but this opening at MSG with the thunder was by far the best opening ever..my whole body froze with goosebumps Roll on Barcelona roger ❤️
I've just listened to this version for first time and it makes me feel like a world has just stopped forever. This movie and sounds are very impressive. Thank You Mr Roger ❤ for a trip and a moment of reflection. Peace 🤟
Had the great pleasure of seeing this live show back in October in Austin TX. I have seen nearly 50 live shows in my 40 years of being alive, and This Is Not a Drill was easily the most important, memorable and amazing live show I’ve ever seen.
Agreed. Not sure how many shows I've been to in my life but it's probably at least 50 and Roger's were by far the best. I liked the Us and Them tour slightly better but both were top notch.
I have listened and loved the original since 1979, this is another masterpiece by this amazing man who just can't fail. Absolutely fantastic with the video. Bravo.

I knew most of the classic stuff- But jesus christ I was not prepared for this openining to hit as hard as it did. Listening to this version now keeps giving me chills-
The Video Detail, theme and story behind it is Awesome! and fitting for the world today we live in as it all it takes is one Loud Crack like that Lightning and Thunder in Video, but its a bomb instead that falls, Like in Goodbye Blue Sky I Love You Stranger, we are all the same, flesh suits merely, but different souls that all know we are family and try to show us daily, but we don't all have soul Eyes or Ears to Hear Them calling and showing us signs Cya Brother Peace and Blessings

Thank you for these two hours of kindness with my mother! We loved it! And thanks for ALL of your Songs!! For sure I will hear them till to my end!
Roger, Ive seen you just about every Tour within the last 20 years. I loved THE WALL LIVE, but this re-arrangement of Comfortably Numb to open was amazing! I saw you at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. I found myself in immediate nostalgia wishing my father (who committed suicide) would be sitting beside me. This was one of his favorites. The dark arrangement and lady solo at the end put me in tears as i sat in my chair! Unbelievable show! Your music continues to be a large influence in my life. Thank you
This video was the open song of This is nit the drill show in DC 2022, first sounds of the song gave me chills and realized that I was about to witness the greatest show on earth. Thank you Roger for keep creating. What a talent
As an Autistic / ADHDer who has noted since a small child (age 3) aspects of society that are greatly lacking, this video is hauntingly sad and beautiful. The arts are a way to reconnect to our hearts and souls. We have an epidemic of isolation and loneliness and have lost touch with what matters. My hope for my grown children and all the children, is we get uncomfortable and start to change the path.
Saw the This Is Not A Drill show in Birmingham. Never have and never will see anything as good again live. Music from the heavens. Thank you Roger for placing those memories in my head.
As much as it would be nice to see them live together agan, i have to say that i don't think they could work together as artists again. They are way too different. They've always been different, but Roger has stayed consistent whereas David has changed way too drastically.
Leave it be. Be thankful for all they all have given us. Don't try to take sides on matters outside of our personal business. This version is really good, on a few different levels.
I agree. He took something we know and reimagined it and showed it to us again in a different way. I thought it was awesome in concert because its nice to have the artist confident enough to put some songs in different types of arrangements.
Absolutely beautiful version of this track! Always remember, too, everyone. Sometimes in the deepest darkness, can shine the brightest stars. Stay strong and stay safe.
I love this version, Roger. Beautifully dark with a great tempo. This deserves to play a key part in a A list movie. Excellent job & thank you very much for everything you have brought to the world. Long live the flying pig!
I was there! It was a pleasure and an honor watching this live in Mexico last month. The screams of excitement, the applause, the entire arena vibrating with emotion... it all really adds a lot to this epic song. It was worth the wait. That was the happiest day of our lives. RogerTour 2022.

This proves why this is greatest song ever written. It is so poignant, beautiful, haunting no matter what version you hear. I love David's solo, but this version is so haunting, stark, moving, beautiful, it also works just brilliantly.
This is incredible! The magick is still there-and growing! The soloist you have in the video is super and the video itself is so moving and perfectly suited with the song and the times. I only wish I could see this video live. Thank you Mr Waters!🤘🎸🎵🎶

I simply won't compare it to the original. Two separate works with their own powerful merits. Well done and thank you for sharing the story in the description.
Holy sh*t!! There has been a while since the last time I've heard something so exquisite!! 🙏 Roger made it dark and sad. Almost painful. He removed guitar solos. He added a video and created a scene for the song. The voice singing/crying at the end. And the pig... Pink Floyd for ever and ever.
Excellent version ! It is as if it reaches all the people giving a message of unity in the midst of the turbulent times we live in. Thank you for all the music you give us dear Roger ❤️ We are waiting for you in November 2023 Greetings from Chile
I was not expecting a Slowcore version of Comfortably Numb in the vein of Low. The vocal solo at the closing really did help to break the tension. Stunning.
It looks like a post apocalyptic world that Roger has written about many times. What a video! Great remake of a dark song that has become depressing....and apocalyptic.
None of you alone could ever produce what you did together. I know it's a blow to the ego, but you caught fire in a bottle, and it only worked because of everyone's contributions. Thank you for being a part of, what in my humble opinion, was the greatest band of all time.
Yeah… major success due to collaboration. But you gotta admit his songwriting is great anyway. In and of itself, these are brilliant musical compositions.
@@peepeepoopoo8006 I can’t personally decide. I lean toward the original as better. But I really like this one too. Reminds me of Is There Anybody Out There?
@@peepeepoopoo8006 Modern sounds, modern mixing and still fails to be better than the original. Two of the best guitar solos ever written cut in favour of a anonym voice solo is enough to put it behind. Incredibe video and song. Looks like a post apocalyptic world that Roger has written about many times.
Na, let your soul wander. That’s when I’m at my best. Life is too short not to.
Wauv.
Fuldstændig enig! En voldsom, men smuk oplevelse.
👍
I'm going on tour in October, in Brazil

Roger is a great man. He is one of the heroes they will talk about in times distant from now
This version is showing the whole world in pain, numb.
Lamentableme es el futuro .
Had the privilege of experiencing this live yesterday. The sound was tremendously powerful, 3D and the thunder were at realistic sound pressure. I was blown away
I saw Roger in Prague and it was this studio version , he wasn't on the stage
My ears and brain definitely waits for the guitar solo, in each music statement and chords... The best guitar solo of all times.
Solos. There are two of them. ;-)
There is a great singing solo in it, didn't you hear?
I kinda think that's Roger's point (along with erasing David's contribution, a side benefit for R). The intent is to be made uncomfortable and ill at ease. That difference between expectation and experience is what he's aiming at.
Best solo ever
Erasing the solos is burying the light. But shine on Roger, from behind your wall.
Well Roger, even if you wanted to make it darker, it's heavenly dark. I get chills every time I listen to it and indeed Shanay has a beautiful voice. Thanks for this remake.

I hope so.
It's a cold, dark and snowy morning and I get to hear the studio version of this masterful reproduction of an all-time classic. Thank you, Roger.
Its so beautiful!
It literally started pouring outside when I started this song.
Indeed this is hauntingly epic!!
Watching this live was probably one of the best experiences I've ever had

deep stuff dude. Roger has the power to connect you with your real self with just a sound.
@Renzor... I did not expect the concert (saw him here in KC) to start this way, but damn it got me ready for the rest of the show.
I'm also elated this got published too.
Saw him twice this tour was so awesome
I def cried. That ending tore me up
The slow tempo and dark key make it so timely; I hope that everyone grasps on to the love that was offered and is still.

A different version, totally different but truly goosebumps especially if you listen to it with headphones.
The female vocals are truly the TOP.
A version that makes you think .... think .... fly.

I agree with u with the female vocalist she sounds amazing and powerful on this track however she been overshadowed by the fact there is no guitar solo I try not compair with the original and take it as a diffrent take
This version has such a melancholic quality to it, much like "Is There Anybody Out there?", it even has that seagull guitar effect. Well done sir
A world without Roger Waters is like a sky without a stars.... Roger for ever ❤❤❤❤
You said it Roger...."Together we stand, divided we fall". Pink Floyd was always more than the sum of their individualities.Your endearing darkness is profoundly artistic and I respect your version of the song.
If only he'd felt the same about his bandmates.

His gloom and doom
I like this version, but it is David’s solo that moves me to tears in your original collaboration. This version has its merits, but for me the versions where David Gilmour does extended solos are the absolute cream of the crop.
Delicate sound of thunder had my favourite version of this song with perhaps the best guitar solo of all time in it

The original Comfortably Numb is probably my favorite Pink Floyd song and I think this version is phenomenal! The dark depth and the plodding rhythm, the soul wrenching vocals at the end make it an entirely new experience. Thank you, Roger, for this reimagining!
Hauntingly beautiful. I am blown away. No one touches the dark side of the soul like Mr. Waters.

This was absolutely amazing in concert you could really feel the emotions in the song
Hello there. How are you doing today? Nice meeting you here
I really think this version depicts very well the Comfortably Numb concept it was intended, it has these eerie background sounds that could easily be part of The Wall movie :)
Me too, in tears every time I listen to the original, even more the live Pulse version, in video 😢🥰
This one isn't even close to the original.
I was at the London Palladium last year to see him. Utterly mesmerising. Genius.
Now we have two wonderful versions of this song to listen to. Thanks Roger. Forever grateful.
I prefer the original version, but this one conveys a somehow new deep meaning. Excellent!

That is because he does not have Gilmour, the voice and guitar of pink floyd:).
Just having the omission of that solo is an homage to the rest of Pink Floyd. The yearning is as ominous as the meaning and the vision.
@@misterhello9189 I can agree with that, Gilmore is absolutely mesmerizing on that guitar!

Shout out to your graphics guys/gals!!! That was a journey and Shanay definitely brought the song home. Thank you for sharing this Roger. In fact, thank you for all you have given us through the decades!! PS - your latest show in SF was INCREDIBLE and well worth enduring the pandemic delay!!
Such a terrifically apt rendition of the classic for our contemporary chaotic, dystopian times. Thank you RW for this stunning production. And the haunting video was perfectly complimented too.
Saw this tour a few times and every single time this experience blew my mind. I took my brother to one of these shows and I looked over at him and he had tears in his eyes, and then I started to well up.
