    So, I had a brain back in the 90's when there was a massive yo-yo craze, and I got really good with the Brain, and I was the best in school with it, I used to know all sorts of tricks including stuff that probably has a name that I made up.
    Recently a friend got me a real cheap yo-yo that makes noises and, sucks and it made me think of all the fun I used to have with my Yomega brain that burned in a housefire, so I went on Amazon and bought top of the line Yomega Brain XP, started fiddling with it, getting the feel of slinging it again for sweet sleeps (My record sleeper with the old yomega brain was four minutes) and while it felt different I felt it coming along.
    So I start looking up other Yoyo's and the Yotricks RUclips channel, just, kinda hurts that my childhood yo-yo that I got so good with is only good for absolute beginners, and isn't that great at all, and a bunch of comments saying how bad the old ones were, maybe I should have done more research... Just kinda, feels really bad like an old friend you used to know is the weird guy everyone avoids and no one talks about.
    Also looking at the trick selection feels like I need a degree in physics, these weren't the tricks I used to know and put everything I did and knew of to shame.
    I just... I don't know.

      Bro you were probably a huge badass with that thing. I had a Brain too, and while I probably wasn't the best, that yoyo became a part of me in 5th grade. They say in swordsmanship to make the sword an extension of your arm, well I did that with my yoyo. Im sure you did too. Whether your yoyo is considered "good" or "bad" doesnt matter if you knew what you were doing. I bet you did. So many kids at my school were great at yoyo, and they used the brain like we did.

    • @FrostiKing
      @FrostiKing 5 лет назад +7

      @@AugustTheStag Maybe, the internet wasn't a thing in the 90's yo-yo craze so there wasn't much comparison. Yomega was the best at the time and you had three choices and I loved my brain. I was good with my brain, even after training and practicing I still can't do what I used to with a yo-yo. I feel old.

      As long as you had fun and created great memories, that’s all that matters. I was in the same boat as you and I remember all my friends and cousins having our own personal styles and tricks we could do with the brain. It’s a beautiful thing to look back and realized how innocent we were for some plastic and a string to bring us such joy. And with what a lot of kids are into today with iPads and other nonsense, I’m glad we grew up in an era where breathing fresh air and experiencing life hands on was the only way a kid should grow up.

    Thank you for this video. I have a very very cheap yoyo that I got for free at a zoo (it was very bad, * cough * golddiggers * cough *). It already cracked a bit, but I have the same exact one, so right now I will use this to mess around.
    I tried to explore the clutch by myself, then wanted to put it back together correctly. So I opened the second one. I didn't even put much pressure on it and I heard a crack. The little rod that held the one part of the clutch broke off. Later I noticed more cracks. Finally, when I was finished with everything, I went to screw the yoyo together. It broke even more. So I picked this cracking one to rock out with it.
    The real catch is, I bought a even cheaper yoyo (the zoo one had the price tag on it, so I knew how much it was, even when getting it for free, because a school I was with, as an assistant, was paying for it) and it is a tank. I accidentaly dinged it many times, it hit me right in the elbow, "walked" it on concrete. Not a single visible crack or scratch.

    I used to have this yoyo 25 years ago. It was horrible. For an untrained 10 year old it was almost impossible to throw the yoyo hard enough that the clutch disengages. Most times the yoyo came straight back without any sleeping at all. Even more scary was the fact that once you managed to throw it into the sleeper the clutch engages so rapidly that the yoyo shoots back so hard it really hurts in your hand. And you never knew when it happens... maybe after 5 seconds sleeping maybe after 10 seconds maybe after 1 second. It really was like russian roulette ;)
    Maybe my yoyo was faulty or it was a common problem with the first generation releases... idk...

    I would not recommend it. I used one for many years and made little progress. Recently I started using YoYoJam offstring yoyos and I have been able to do a ton more with those, especially the Big Yo and the ReXtreme - which is why we now sell those 2 yoyos on Yotricks. If you already have an Xodus 2 it is certainly better for offstring than a regular yoyo, but if you have not yet bought a yoyo for offstring I would recommend any YoYoJam yoyo over the Xodus 2, especially the two I mentioned.

    Although definitely a definite beginner yoyo this was all the rage on the playground back in the day. When the Yomega brand and peak yoyo craze started reaching an apex around the turn of the new millenium the "yoyo with the brain" was seen alongside the fireball at playground during recess. I only knew one kid who had a Raider and once they got bored I was able to trade it off them. I think they had lost the ball bearing or the ball bearing was broken so I didn't realize how great of a beginner ball bearing yoyo it was until later. The Fireball is really the ultimate beginner yoyo. The iconic Fireball logo design has held up through the ages and the art of it combined with the classic semi trasparent opaque jelly like red and the matte black center with the Fireball font emblazened on it with the comet like fireball burning behind it make it instantly recognizable.
    During Quarantine and being on Furlough for 3 months due to the virus I have been looking for things to do inside and have had this hyper fixation on nostalgia from my childhood. I watched Jonah Hill's debut film called Mid-90s about being a skater looking for identity growing up in the 90s. While skateboarding I started as soon as I could walk, Yo-Yos were a part of my mid 90's story and I played them for years. Somewere along the way yoyos just faded from my interests probably because of growing up and some fear of being nerdy for holding onto something that was viewed as a craze to so many. I remember I would yoyo around the house every so often but not consistently. It's funny to think I cared so much what other people thought about me in general. There was a sort of unspokenness about wanting to be cool and doing grown up things like party and act tough. I think it's normal to fear being judged and trying to find out who you are during that coming of age part of your life. I love to see my nephews and nieces who wholeheartedly are themselves and aren't so trepidatious in sharing their interests at school or online. All that to say I got back into Yoyo playing during quarantine. It's been great as a means of mild exercise, a creative outlet like skateboarding in it's technicality, and even some therapeutic use spending so much time working on the computer it feels great to throw a yoyo and loosen up my wrists. I've also found that picking the yoyo back up has been super easy and I've learned tricks I never knew before. I've been "inventing" string tricks that probably have a name but have never heard of them and doing all sort of things I never thought possible. I also started buying up a collection of yoyos like hotcakes. Besides the new Fireball, which I mainly keep in my backpack, I also have a Yomega Xodus II on order next plus have a script requesting a Yomega Raider & Yomega Maverick. It will be awesome to go from this plastic axle fireball to a metal ball bearing yo-yo.
    I was on the search for a Fireball at 3 different stores during quarantine and it was my first time being in the toy section of any stores in the longest time I can remember. That along was a strange feeling but also a trip down memory lane. I feel like as many, including myself, get older we forget how to play and life can get so serious. Alas I did not find the Yomega Fireball at any store but on Amazon from Yomega Corp and it arrived very quickly. I did find a more modern Duncan Butterfly with a plastic transaxle for about $5 that was next to the classic Butterfly at Target. I figured I would humor myself and try it out for a video series I'm filming and to my utter amazement it spins great and is even superb for spin tricks. It has more weight to it, is less responsive than the fireball so it spins longer, and the wing shape on this model is more curved than the classic butterfly and it makes it super easy to catch string tricks. The string is much shorter and must be a different blend from the Yomega string because it has a rougher cheaper texture and hurts my finger a lot more after a shorter amount of play. I know that heavier yoyos will put more tension on the string but the Fireball just sleep so smooth and effortlessly. Anyhow this comment is wayyyy too long already and I was going to write an entire story about my childhood and and my 3rd grade birthday at the bowling alley where I got my first Yomega Fireball and a Brain on the same day and felt like a million bucks with all my friends there but thats pretty much it. So glad I rediscovered yoyo again as an adult and can appreciate both the simplicity and complexity of it.

    I haven't read through all the comments but, What I like about this yoyo (and probably all other auto return yoyos is that I can use it to see how good (or bad) my throwdown is. It doesn't matter how good or bad the yoyo is , just counting the sleep time of each throw is a perfect indication of how good my throw is. Also the design of this yoyo means that even a slightly off straight throwdown will kill the spin real quick.

So after watching this video, I noticed that my yoyo has the screw that the axle slips onto coming out of the clutch side, while in this video is was on the opposite or "non-clutch" side. I have one that looks pretty much the same, but it's a glow in the dark version. I don't see the word brain on it anywhere, but it looks the same otherwise (same brand too). Just found it in the attic, from like the early 2000's I think. I can't really do anything with it though.

    Picked one of these up earlier today, mostly out of nostalgia. Wanted one of the more advanced yoyos, but opted out of spending an extra $5-10 and went for one I was a bit more familiar with even if I am, I would like to think, a bit more than an absolute beginner. It's been fun to mess around with, but I definitely can feel wanting a bit more out of it than it can offer. Will have to look into upgrading sometime though. Glad I found the channel and site.

    My first yoyo was this, I ended up learning to throw it so hard the auto return doesn't work, but sometimes it still goes up and hits my hand so hard that it would be very red and sensitive for a while. Quit yoyoing but now I'm getting back with a sage yoyo, which will be a lot better for learning yoyoing don't you think?

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  8 лет назад

      Once the yoyo is put together properly the only way to make it sleep is a very powerful throw. If often seems as though these yoyos cannot sleep at all at first, but it just takes a little more power and technique and it will be sleeping every time.

    Is there a chance ya can do a review on the Yomega Raider. I heard it's a very popular yoyo, for it has won many competition and it's a top favorite amongst tricksters (pardon my ignorance in the yoyo lingo). A review on it by you guys would be very helpful in what you can and can't do with it.

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  8 лет назад

      +Flufferican The Raider is often used by 2a players for looping. The reason we do not sell it or recommend it is because it needs to be modified in order to play right, and the modification can easily break the yoyo in the process. Since there are so many great yoyos for 2a that do not require any modifications, we decided to not carry (or review) the Raider.

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  10 лет назад

      The thick lube will work, the thin lube will not. To keep the halves from separating you should check to make sure they are tightened together every time you catch the yoyo. It is best to get into this habit when using any yoyo that can come apart.

    Over the Xodus? Yes. That being said, it is not one of my favorite yoyos, the o-rings it uses for response don't allow the yoyo to sleep as long as it should. Something like a Velocity or the Flipside are much better options for around the same price. We have both of those on the YoTricks website.

      All the Brain yoyos are basically the same in my book. They try to dress them up with exciting names and "features" but ultimately they all play pretty much the same. I say, if you are going to get a Yomega Brain yoyo of any kind just find the one that is the least expensive.
