You can tell he is building this yacht with the knowledge that it can last over 100 years. When that fact is in your heart you take your time and do it as perfect as possible, that deck work is all the proof you need.

I remember going through the "potato patch" and under the Golden Gate in a 32 ft. Wet Snail. Small craft advisory warnings and the skipper decides to do a man over board drill. We never found his hat. We never did go all the way to the Farallon's. I have been in love with sailing ever since.

I think this is why a lot of designs use a herring bone pattern because those 45 degree angles ignore all of the curves or angled areas of the deck. I think this will look just as good too though!

Back in the 70’sI did a few trips to the Farlones,on a Lapworth 36 #71 to help with supplies and chains the crews on the island. There was no beach so they used an old crane to get aboard.

Guys, you're gonna need to cut some scuppers or a few big waves over the rails are gonna swamp you, I know you left a gap, but the amount of water in a big wave is huge, and weighs tons. Leaving out that whole bottom plank would've been best, but now that it's in place at least saw some drains into it. Friend used 'tarp' instead of netting, (keeps the wind down, Bro!), and a breaking wave had nowhere to go but down into their cabin. It took us hours to bail it all out again. He was lucky it was just the one wave from a tanker wake, if it had been high seas...

Love the Dewalt multitool. Had an insurance repair going on with my house while I was building my sailing dinghy in the garage, and the lead carpenter was using a multitool like that. Asked him if he liked it, and he said it was $#%^ing awesome. So I bought my own, and found out that it is indeed $%^&ing awesome.

Looked like a great day-trip. I can only imagine the feeling of being so small when sailing under that bridge. Looked like the waves were kinda fun. Also, kuddos to the captain for serving coffee to the ladies first. There are gentlemen left in the world, that was refreshing to see, also.

Derick: I'm now 79. When I was 53 I was sanding the top deck teak trim on my Alaskan 49 . Standing on the main deck bulwarks rail leaning back on a rope. When I stepped into the open gate dropping 5' on to a 4x4 tie rail on the finger; in the small of my back off to one side. A really bad bruised area (purple and black with yellow patches) about 6x8 inches and out. Much pain but I ignored it with the help of Tylenol 3 ( 3 gr, codeine ).
That is the background now the message.
After a couple of years I was having trouble walking up and down stairs. By favouring the bruised side; to ease the pain. I had twisted my spine 2 cm almost an inch; out of alignment into a 'S' bend. It took the Chiropractor recommended by my Doctor 6 years of treatment to realign my spine and hips. To this day I still sleep on my side taking pressure off the damaged area; even though it healed years ago, the phantom pain memory is still there.
So be careful and don't twist your spine to relieve the pressure on the bruise for months as I did. Even sitting in a chair you will find yourself putting the weight on one buttock and leaning to one side when standing, to ease the pain. And have the first mate/medical officer keep on your case and monitor your hips spine alignment; you can't see It for yourself in mirrors.
    the old guy Bert

I am 67 years old but when I was younger (a teen ager) my
family had a commercial fishing boat out of Princeton (Half Moon Bay) and we
would sometimes fish the Farallons until I bought a surplus Geiger counter. Some of the rock fish had 30 to 40 % more radiation than we had ever seen in any fish and just because I thought it would be cool to buy this old military Geiger counter. So we never fished there again but the Farallons are home to many Great White Sharks so it is never a good idea to get in the water there. You could once buy those old military Geiger Counters for about twenty dollars. Now they are over $400.00 for those military spec models that worked better than some new cheap brands. I still have mine. I now live in Israel but it is always nice to check out the local soil.

So much for the American grit, eh? Only 4 years into the build and you're taking a day off. =:-0 Tsch. Being able to lay the deck with straight runs is a really good idea, if you can manage it. So much easier to glue down if you don't have to wedge and bend and force the planks. Nice work and good progress and strong work ethic. Much to admire here. I doff my cap to you both.

When its ruff, especially in the dark, we suit up. We'll have the boat set up when we're on passage to have a Jack-line set up so we clip our harness in there before we go up forward or change a head sail. Sometimes we aren't very good about it but when it's real gnarly you bet we want to stay on board!
