Two weeks of non-stop shooting, 1600GB - 62,000 of raw image files along with 500GB of rendered video files to combine into this piece.
After transiting Panama Canal, our ship cross the Caribbean Sea into Atlantic Ocean and arrive at New York, Savannah then Charleston. The timelapse was taken over span of 15 days, some less interesting parts were speed up or faded out (cargo work, daylight hours with no clouds). Most night shots were done on 25 second shutter speed at 30 seconds interval, with port arrivals and departures at 4~8s interval.
note The time-lapse was presented different than actual port rotation, its narrative was not linear. I purposefully reshuffled Charleston before New York because it'd be anti-climatic to start the timelapse with dark moody rainy day arriving at New York.

Beautiful, I have enjoyed the raining part also. More please. Music is perfect 👌also!

You read all the comments so here’s your video’s impact. I work in Neurology, I have to perform noninvasive testing on children (Electroencephalograms). These exams are painless but many people and children are still very frightened. I have a short list of videos I play for people to help them relax and yours are becoming a favorite. I have two patients who have had repeated testing that ask to watch the boat captain while I prepare them for an exam. Thank you.
i am so happy to hear!! i need to make more for them so they have more selection!!
What all goes into these exams? My teacher had a child who underwent brain treatments, but they never really told us what all happened. It's so inspiring to see someone care enough about their patients!

Dude.. Please never stop doing these vids. Its so addicting to me. I forget everything around me and I cant stop watching this.
The video is 10 minutes, but it doesn't feel like 10 minutes. It ends to fast. :(
And two years later, we've heard nothing for over a year :(

Us: "How many stars will you show us?"
Jeff: "Yes."
Yes.
Pretty good camera/lens combination to be able to adjust to the light level enough to be able to show all those stars and not get blown out during the day.
👍 It was especially fun to see & follow the constellation Orion, The Hunter, in those images! Really stood out! 😎
Did he edit the sky? Its tons of stars, ive never seen so many in real life
@@yngstrom7562 It is because there is no light pollution at sea.
I don’t think we really realise what the night sky really looks like due to all the light pollution
daddistalin Buddy, you aren’t the only one that appreciates that. I ain’t kicking the bucket until I’ve seen the night sky in all it’s glory, period.
Actually, those bright colours are impossible to see with human eye. You need several seconds of exposition to see them.
@muziky9123 Do you know what you're talking about? Or do you think he was saying that light is actually polluting the air? There was no virtue signaling in his comment. All he said was the night sky is pretty when all the lights are off.
Was it in a novel where I read about people arguing over there being many visible stars because one of them lived in the city? That perspective blew my mind even if it was fiction...
Actually some of it is to do with the camera's exposure, but still, all of those stars are glorious to see.
Hey, I work at this weird place - its like a school for adults with disabilities. Well I've been rollin' this joint for two decades now and one thing I see a lot is folks that love big ships and trains. I put this on for sensory time at work and it made a bunch of really nice people very happy to see it. The 30 day one that ends in Hong Kong is an absolute hit.

mesmerizing.
next time though, leave in the parts with the shipyard unloading/loading the containers, that is just part of the experience for us watching at home. that is not something we normally see.
aye aye!
Yes I love that part
Agreed. Some people may not like it, some people will, but it truly is a part of your time lapse. It is neat to see the cranes go to work.

The people that disliked this video are his crew mates who wanted the spot he used for their time lapses too.
Cl Jo The people who disliked it might be actual sailers who are tired of seeing that beautiful 10 minutes timelapse expand into two actual boring weeks of nothingness. Did you see anything actually interesting happening there? If so, then anything you’d find interesting after seeing it for a few years? Sky and ocean.
I have worked at sea, it really sucks to be honest. This is a beautiful 10 minutes of 2 really boring weeks irl.

Nice work, Sherlock.
it's a nice timelapse but I prefer this kind of timelapse with map, gps info, pictures... ---> ruclips.net/video/ghbcd5dvEHw/видео.html
Also....with the right clarity and time-lapse speed, you can actually see the airway lanes as well. God man, brings back memories of my float on the 22 MEU to Afghanistan in 2004. Beautiful.
I served in the USN and these videos make me miss being out to sea and pulling into ports you've never been before.
Wow! It's so beautiful, I can't imagine seeing the stars without light pollution, it must be so amazing in person!
I was thinking about it the whole time watching 😂
As a kid growing up on a farm one of the countless cool things of the lifestyle was seeing the night sky>!! In the 1970's there was major explosion of high powered security lights for farms. Not only was their power so much more bright but they stayed on all night. Before that, "yard" lights were a big incandescent bulb operated by a manual switch. After that time period the details of the night sky were much less clear. After moving to a city....forget it. However, I don't recall the sky as clear as that over the ocean, that's really remarkable and cool off the charts>!!
@@LuvBorderCollies I grew up out in the middle of no where. So I've definitely been treated to the night sky with very little light pollution. But I have to imagine that the middle of the ocean takes it to a whole new level! :)
in person it is less colorful (cant see the purple tint) but yes you can see that many stars if you stand outside :)
@@JeffHK Is that something with the camera/effect?

At 7:40, there are three stars in a straight line that you can see quite clearly. On the left is a bright star and somewhere to its right is a “dying star” so it’s a little orangey.
That’s Orion’s Belt. Can always see it when I sail in the South China Sea.
Great video!
Yes! The dying star is Betelgeuse! Where I live, Sirius is nowhere near as huge and bright. This video was amazing!

I just discovered your stuff today and I am LOVING it. So relaxing, entertaining, and out of this world. THank you so much for putting these videos out there!
This has to be one of the most beautiful videos on RUclips
The amount of planes landing in New York was absolutely impressive
judging by the shot, those planes are landing in newark liberty international airport, which is over in NJ. absolutely impressive nonetheless. if you drive down the 95 during the night and get a chance to look up in the sky, you can almost see a long line of planes queuing up to land.
Having stayed on Long Island recently I noticed that there is a plane landing at Laguardia every two minutes, as well as one taking off every two minutes. So with Liberty, JFK and Laguardia there is a huge amount of air traffic above NYC 24 hours a day.
It does underscore the amount of light-pollution caused by city lights. I have never in my life seen such a magnificent sky and one that shows us how tiny and inconsequential we are
Yeah, we are nothing and there is no purpose to our existence. So enjoy your life as you want because it doesn't matter whatever you do ;)

Go out & find a life worth living or dying for.
Those are long exposure photos. Human eye can't see those bright colours even in the most unpoluted skies

I love seeing the clouds form and fade away.... it's so mesmerizing how time can show us more details...both hyperlapse and slo mos are incredibly informative💚🌏
I would like to see where the ship is at the moment of the recording. Is it possible to show some kind of minimap in timelapse videos?
Ohhh yes!
Oh that's a good one! 👌
Minimap would only distract and it would make it more difficult to make a video, meaning less timelapses...

Are the stars as visible to the naked eye as they are using the camera ? It's Magical, Never seen a sky like that before in my life because of light pollution
i think they aren't as bright amd color full to our eyes, since we can't expose for 25s^^
Med Reda yes they are visible in this manner, colors and all, it’s a wonderful sight isn’t it.
Its that Bright, because he use a camera with a lens. I worked on a ship and i saw some starts and the milkway, but with a camera its more bright. But even than, its difficult, because u have to open the lens for that long and the ship keep moving. For sure he did used some Kind of Videoprogramm, to Brighten the Video.
these are the night skies I remember as a kid growing up on a farm.... it was a beautiful bright blanket of wonderment
@@GoonRider19 but can you see clearly with naked eye?
I’m glad you didn’t cut out the last bit just because of the rain. The light and the rain running across the lens makes an interesting and pleasing effect. Keep it up!
a real clear sky... it brought me memories, I miss times when I was younger, I had an area far from the city and the sky was like this. seeing the sky like that among the trees was better than I imagined, when I lost it, I realized how much i needed it

I have watched a number of these amazing videos and you are one of the very few RUclipsrs whose talent just leaves me in awe. Such artistry! You blend amazing images with wonderful music. I live in South Carolina and I played this video on my big screen when family was over. They were spellbound. You should be very proud as you offer the best of what RUclips should be.
This is incredible, i play this with music in the background it helps to ease the stress. 30 days at sea video, for a few years now. Thank you for an opportunity to see the sky at sea, it is amazing i love it
I love these timelapses you make! I have a couple of suggestions:
1. I think the parts that you speed up much faster than the rest should not be that fast, personally the length of the video is worth the beautiful photography that it provides.
2. Maby having a way to visualize a map and where you are would be cool, just make sure its small and not the main focus. maybe a dark theme map :)
I hope this channel keeps growing for you, its what so many people wanted!
I saw the USS Yorktown CV-10 on the port side when you departed Charleston. I was stationed on her in 1966.
Amazing. Thank you for your service! Have you been back to it since? It's a really cool museum and I've taken a friend there before. Of course it's not like it was when you served, but still very cool to see.

That night time sky. Where you can truly see our galaxy and feel so insignificant because of it. I love that feeling.
Very cool. My uncle is a retired merchant marine captain, and he loved it when I showed it to him! Thank you for the upload!
Jeff, how easy is it to see the stars with the naked eye during the ocean transits?

These are awesome. Keep them coming. It's like traveling through your eyes and getting to see sights we'll probably never see. Great stuff!
It’s truly amazing how big and full the sky is when you get away from all the light pollution! I used to sail with my aunt and uncle for weeks at a time when I was a kid... from Maine to the Bahama’s and the Keys! It’s truly something everyone should see at least once in their lives! It truly puts everything in perspective!
