How are the energy production and usage transition going in Africa? New heat world records 5 days in a row last week. Since the Industrial revolution, just a few hundred years ago, we have raised the atmospheric Carbon content from 220 PPM to now (2022 number) 417 PPM! So humans NOW have caused not a 30 PPM rise but unprecedented 197 PPM! We are right now in the largest species extinction period since the Asteroid hit Yucatan 66 million years ago!

There are plenty of pick up trucks build in South Africa for local and export markets, including the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D Max, and Mahindra also has local assembly of some pick ups.
Badge engineering was invented by GM in 1931. Toyota does it very often, rebadging anything from BMW to Daihatsu, Isuzu, Subaru, Suzuki, to name a few. They have used engines from GM, Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, Isuzu, etc. Even Yamaha gave them that fantabulous Lexus V8. Quite a complex reputation.
Trust me i have watched more than 10 reviews of this car but this is the best review ever, carwow is the best.. and i think we need more of these kinds of review
Nice review of the new Amarok. If going for the new model, I'd just go ahead and get the Ranger. From the old model, the interior soft touch dash and door cards are a definite improvement - can take or leave the big screens etc. However, the old V6 is more powerful stock and becomes insane for a pickup when worked on (definite contender for a remapped raptor). In addition, average around 38-40MPG easily driving the VAG V6 with just shy of 600 miles out a tank, low 30s if driving harder which really isn't required given the torque low down and speed limits on roads.
Matt if you guy's have the gwm (great wall motors) p series LT 4x4 the top of the range bakkie/ light truck. Test it, review it, even off road. Check it out. Awesome futures, stuff you get in mercedes s class.
Great Wall did offer a pickup in the UK some years ago but it was a terrible machine and they sold very few. They pulled out of the UK when emission controls tightened I believe.
I have this model and it’s pretty good, massive at first but after a week of driving it it’s much more manageable. And if you’re gentle it will do 30-32 mpg on a long journey. Towing is effortless with the v6, 3 plus ton easily.
I agree. This is because in recent years the single cab and two wheel drive versions collectively took about 1% of total sales. Personally I would take an extended cab with the mid-length loadbed but not a single cab pickup. Indeed that would be my preferred option but nobody stocks them any more in the UK and they are factory order only. Indeed Ford make them but they don’t offer them in the UK currently just as VW do not offer the basic single cab work truck. They would be competing with the likes of Isuzu for a tiny margin. Remember that Mitsubishi, Nissan, Renault, Fiat and Mercedes used to offer pickups in the UK and Europe but have given up the market.
Sad to see that this is not a updated version of VW's own platform. And that no engine is made by VW as well. Might as well go get a Ford Ranger right away.
It looks really nice, I had the previous Amarok V6, which was superb. The 3.0 V6 diesel in this one is the latest iteration of the troublesome 2.7/3.0 Lion engine developed by FoMoCo and PSA. It helped to considerably damage Land Rover's unreliable reputation when applied to the Range Rovers and Discoverys. Lots and lots of info online. I hope they managed to address the issues, but I wouldn't be surprised if they persist. Otherwise a lovely car and hopefully will be reliable for its future owners.

A nice pick-up . For every day work and life. I think that the model 240 hp diesel is quite expensive. But we are not in the US and we must follow the rules of our countries.
Technically this model exceeds the 2040kg unladen weight limit so you would be restricted to lower speed limits, i.e 60 on a dual carriageway instead of 70. 50mph on single carriage way for national speed limits. Not sure if police ever enforce this though.
My little berlingo is also over the weight limit, the amount of times I have an artic up my chuff on a single lane de restricted lane while iam doing 52mph is concerning.
What surprised me was in an Australian comparison they said that the most comfortable one in the backseat is the Amarok while the Ranger was only third in the question... I just didn't really enjoy this console and the Volks panel!
Are you sure about the lack of availability of the Raptor’s rear coil springs? The top Adventura model has the Raptor’s reduced payload of around 650kgs which makes me suspect that it has coils but with a luxury road emphasis rather than sporty offroad as with Raptor. The disadvantage of the reduced payload is that it prevents HMRC classifying them as ‘dual purpose vehicles’ which means that they do not qualify for VAT repayment which immediately makes them uncompetitive for VAT registered business buyers. All variants are limited to 10mph lower speed limits than cars or car-derived vans on UK ordinary roads and dual carriageways, respectively down to 50mph on A and lesser roads and 60 on dual carriageways. They can all do 70 on motorways of course unless otherwise indicated or towing a trailer.
In south africa ,most of these pick up trucks spend most of their life transporting the kids to school and going around town. That sort of stuff. These kind of vehicles are now bought to be used as you would use any other normal car. People don't offroad them much
I *H A T E* that these are becoming popular here in Europe. They're massive so absolutely inadequate for European city centres, which the owners somehow think it's a good idea to drive in with, they're far more inefficient than the vans we already have therefore pointless, and outright dangerous for pedestrians. I can't wait to have these added to the list of vehicles banned from traffic-restricted zones.
So the VW Amarok is a Ford, the Mazda BT-50 is an Isuzu, and the Mercedes X-Class used to be a Nissan. It's almost as if some companies shouldn't bother making pick-ups.
Yes crime, and maybe since the American calls it a pick up truck that would be helpful because we know what is currently happening to our trucks industry 😅😅😶
Mat, can I ask why there was an 'obscuring thing' over the screen as you were in the process of telling us about it. I refer firstly to the 2 minute 39 second mark, but it appears again. Is this some kind of embargo thingy from VW? Because it's the Ford system? Just asking as it seems a bit odd to see in one of your marvelous videos.
Exposed rear cup holders are better than the retractable ones. I have a 4 and a 5 years old kids, they break anything that slides. Great bakkie, but I'd still go for the Ford Ranger.
Great to see you reviewing practical cars that you see more people buying (i.e. New A Class, Prius and now this). I don't know if this is irrelevant in the UK but a tow test from a few 4WD's would be cool to watch.
Unless you live in Africa, or you’re a farmer, or you’re in construction, etc, why on earth would you want to wake up and drive this thing to work, or wherever??? Why I would you own this??
The VW Amarok is a great Pickup Truck, at least the previous Models are and you see them everywhere here in the Bavarian Alps, often used off-road and to carry Timber etc. Hope this one is also or at least just as great as the previous Models Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Die meisten kaufen sich bald Ranger, der Amarok ist fast identisch, kostet aber 10k€ mehr. Und der Ranger hat USPs wie die Knöpfe für die Klima und ProPowerOnboard.

Best looking amarok to date but I can’t help but feel the fact Ford make it it’s going to take a massive it on quality
Matt, you call it the German Hilux, but does to live up to this title? Does it have the legendary reliability of the Hilux?
Matt I wish you'd reviewed the bakkie here in South Africa 🇿🇦❤😅
Now we need offroad competition 💯
Include the dmax please
@@tinomutendasheshumba1818include also the VMAX and MITSUBISHI MIRAGE CYBORG R.
@tinomutendasheshumba1818 Yeah, a DMAX vs. Amarok vs. Ranger vs. Hilux vs. Ineos Grenadier vs. Jeep Gladiator off road battle would be awesome!
Then i Can pick up my girls with that
Oh i forgot, i don’t have any…😢
Are you sure about the lack of availability of the Raptor’s rear coil springs?
On the money, very poor from VW. Can’t see them selling many Aventura’s
Going by any Ranger/Amarok I've encountered on the road, they're doing at LEAST 15 over the speed limit at all times.
South African viewer named Duncan Neo 🤗,
Loves this channel 🥰.
@Matt ❤
MATT I’ve been waiting so long for you to do a review on this… youre honesty in your vids are crazy keeps me entertained haha keep it up..
Agree. Seems like feels waiting for 1 year for that.
@@purwantiallan5089 he didn’t wanna fly to SA to review it for the same reason there’s a usb port in the rear view mirror for dash cams 😂😂
I have the Ranger with the same engine. Love it.
Been waiting for this one👌👌
Proudly South African 🇿🇦❤
Badge engineering at its finest. Welcome to 1970s GM.
Yep. Good old GM days here.
Anybody get spider man across the spider verse flashbacks when he folded the mirrors and they made that noise
I much prefer the old Amarok. Could easily mistake this for a hilux
It's the same on a DAF T244 and that was made in the 90s - the inside door handle :)
Agree. Its basically an overgrown version of it...
A Amarok V6 do Brasil faz de 0 a 60 Mph em 8 segundos.
Vamos. Amarok faz de 0 to 60mph in 7.98 segundas in Indonesia.
Somehow for some reason, ain't nobody buying it in SA
They are, I've seen a few on the road..... but i still prefer the ford
I’d get the diesel version of that. It’ll be one of the last diesels ever available.
Shout out from South Africa! You'll definitely need that dashcam. VW's are high risk here
So the VW Amarok is a Ford, the Mazda BT-50 is an Isuzu, and the Mercedes X-Class used to be a Nissan.
It's almost as if some companies shouldn't bother making pick-ups.
South Africa shout out! Woop Woop! 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As a South African I know what he meant 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm feom SA but im lost😢
Can you explain bro
I'm curious 😂
Crime🤦🏽♂️
Yes crime, and maybe since the American calls it a pick up truck that would be helpful because we know what is currently happening to our trucks industry 😅😅😶
toyota hilux
What a shame that VW just gonna rebadged those pickups compared to the past trucks.
Yes partnership between company sucks
i think the previous version of the amarok is better with the 258 hp v6 and not so heavy to
First-gen Amarok used VW's 2,967 cc V6 - second-gen uses the same 2,993 cc V6 as Jaguar and Land Rover used to offer
In the future you should put the new Ford Ranger against the Amarok in a off road battle
This Vw is totally a Ford Ranger with the absolute minimum done in changes to it so no point.
Towing is definitely relevant in the uk
It’s truly a missed opportunity for the 2nd gen amarok they pulled a Mercedes what they did with the x class just lazy work all this potential
Have they finally upgraded their cam for Mat or is that just an effect of a bright sunny day?
Agree man
Unless you live in Africa, or you’re a farmer, or you’re in construction, etc, why on earth would you want to wake up and drive this thing to work, or wherever??? Why I would you own this??
The truck look amazing 🤩
wow for a v6 3.0 with no load that is a slow pickup truck
The VW Amarok is a great Pickup Truck, at least the previous Models are and you see them everywhere here in the Bavarian Alps, often used off-road and to carry Timber etc.
Hope this one is also or at least just as great as the previous Models
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Hilux is just waay better.
