    Hi Thanks for the wonderful video. Just a very small question, for a commercial buildings toilet having 2 no ewc, 2 no. s. Urinal and two no washbasin. As per guide like every fixtures to be vented but for space constraints can we a single vent stack at outside the building. Its a case of single floor unit.

    • @dekonfrost7

      ravi shukla if the the venting is the same size as the pipe going out to the street. yes you can use 1 4” pipe to vents an entire branch of 4” drain lines. I believe up to 6 toilets. You can also have 2 or more vents that total the area if the pipe.

    • @fredramirez1687

      ravi shukla
      Yes
      But if you have to vent more than two fixtures the vent pipe must be wider than the main source pipes.

    I have a 100 year old building that has a roof vent. After a complete renovation of the bathroom the plumber installed an "S trap" under the sink. A second plumber later saw this and said I MUST install an air admittance valve. Can I install an AAV along with the roof vent with any complications and have 2 vents?

    • @notbadehh8472
      @notbadehh8472 6 лет назад

      Yes, the Roof vent most likely connects to your main stack and vents the rest of your plumbing system. The AAV serves as an individual vent for the sink only.

    • @husher5142
      @husher5142 5 лет назад

      @@notbadehh8472 I'm curious why you would need a second or third one under all the sinks when the main system has one.

    • @notbadehh8472
      @notbadehh8472 5 лет назад

      @@husher5142 Each fixture needs to be vented, there are a few ways you can do this. In the case above an AAV would work. In most new construction cases all venting is done within the walls, extended to the attic where they tie together and exit the roof in a single vent pipe.
      Just because the system is vented does not mean your fixture is vented.

      the only thing that can be is maybe work was being done to the main lines ( city lines) the water gravity feeds to the lowest point in the system when the pressure on the lines in the ground created a vacuum ..because they were opened for repairs at lower elevation than your home.. pressure differential.. this guy did not mention it... but is trying to explain it.. or your house is haunted..

      I had that problem, the toilet was vented....but only into the attic. So the smell went there occasionally, and we could smell it in the house. I connected the vent to go out the roof, and it was fixed. Not sure on your apartment situation, but hopefully you get it fixed.

    That's why every building should have a curb trap, then you don't have to vent every fixture. In my city, you can run a branch drain 12 foot off of the main house sewer without venting the branch drain, 8ft off of the main for water closets, but of course the main needs to be vented full size. We do very little reducing the pipe size for vent lines, if the drain line is 3 inch then the vent runs the full size thru the roof or into a vent header .

    • @zachcoleman6285

      A house trap?
      No thank you

    • @mrbig4532
      @mrbig4532 2 года назад

      @@zachcoleman6285 yeah it’s not for everyone and a big problem occurs if they shift or break because then everything that goes down the drain that’s a solid can potentially get hung up in that trap causing the whole house to back up. But I still rather have the extra protection from sewer gases and rodents then just the fixture trap , and I know rodents can get right through most of the traps but that even makes me want the curb trap more for that extra protection. The other downside of a curb trap is the fresh air inlet , with a little bit of know how if you wanted to really get even with someone who’s done something to you then drop a metal car antenna to the length from the the invert of the trap to about a inch below the water line , and just wait and see how the plumbing bills quickly start coming into your trouble making neighbors house or some person who was driving drunk and clipped someone’s kid but was never arrested. It’s very hard to see down the fresh inlet with the most powerful flashlight out there , if it’s a sunny day then you can use a mirror but it’s still almost impossible to see even with a camera. If the plumber knows what he’s doing and has experienced a situation like this the first thing they will do is use a wet vacuum and remove the water from the trap then you got a better chance but still hard to see, most of the time I and some of the other plumbers I have worked with over the years only discovered the car antenna after digging 8 foot down in a tiny hole , and after removing the fresh air inlet pipe and the trap seal then they see the little piece of metal that’s cost the homeowner 1000,s in drain cleaning, the new curbtrap and fresh air inlet since it’s already dug up . It’s mean and wrong but super effective but with all of these ring doorbell’s that have cameras plus a lot of cars have cameras now that start videoing when you get close to its sensors like the Tesla you will get caught unless you get lucky but it’s still being down because I just pulled one out of this guys curb trap and when I saw him after getting the antenna out the first thing I asked him was who did you piss off , he wanted to know how I knew he was beefing with the old homeowner who left a bunch of silverware behind that was someone’s grandmothers wedding gift and they wanted it back but my customers wife already attempted to sell it and was getting a lot of money for this huge collection of antique silverware so the war has begun .

    Your analogy to the human body is completely off base. The human circulatory system is a closed loop (not a drainage system), is pump (not gravity) driven, and blood vessels are elastic to accommodate for pressure changes from the heart pumping. Breathing does not "vent" in any way similar to how a plumbing vent works.
