In end 70s n 80s my dad was drummer with local up in coming band. They did all hot charts n cover alot bands. This was in top line up. "Four Play😎" they were cool Katz. This takes me back, crosslegged in carport listening to practice. Love that Slid of Steele guitar. 💖😎✌
Yes, but they were then prevented from using the name (I think), necessitating the change to the name Starship. Sara, We Built This City, and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now were all big hits for them. Mickey voice is unmistakeable.
Thanks for doing this great song written by Elvin Bishop and sung by Mickey Thomas and Reni Simon.I saw this live in '76 and loved it.Elvin was also a singer but knew Mickey had the voice for this one.Peace to you and maybe you can do a reaction to a great guitar player,Robin Trower, you might like him.
Elvin Bishop is mentioned in a Charlie Daniels song called The South’s Gonna Do It Again. The lyric goes “Elvin Bishop sitting on a bale of hay, he ain’t good looking but he sure can play”
The song is about a bunch of different southern rock groups - Marshall Tucker band, Allman Brothers (their guitarist Dickie Betts is mentioned), Lynryd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Wet Willie, CDB(Charlie Daniels Band) are all mentioned in the song.
I've always loved this song!! Bumped into that Lead Singer one time in a Clothing store at a shopping mall (I pretended not to know who he was, coz I didn't wanna blow his cover & start drawin' attention to him while he was tryin to shop) & he spoke to me first & wanted my opinions on a couple articles of clothing he was thinking bout buying, then he chose my choices & thanked me for my help & I walked away & went to pay for my purchases & he hurried behind me & told the salesperson that he wanted to pay for my items too!! 😊 Then we both walked out together & he thanked me for my discreetness & asked if I wanted to meet the rest of his band (Jefferson Starship)--they (& a couple of their wives) were all in their Tour Bus out in the parking lot. I spent about 30 min talkin' with all of em in the bus & they gave me some of their merch & signed it all. They were the most down-to-earth guys. Made ME feel like the "star"!! Pure gentlemen! Mickey even walked me to my car & gave me a hug goodbye & thanked me once again! Pure gentleman!! I was a fan of their music for years before this & a Life-long fan after!! Abra, will you please do one of their songs "Jane"?? It's always been one of my faves!!😊❤️😊
1 of the coolest experiences of my life, Abra, that's for sure!!!!!! Yeah Mickey had long hair at the time and he had tucked it up under his hat trying to disguise who he was while he was shopping in the store that day but before I walked away from him I walked up closer to him and he leaned down because he could tell that I wanted to whisper something in his ear and I whispered, "I know who you are, Mickey & I've always loved your band, but don't worry I'm not going to blow your cover, ok?" & He said, "oh honey thank you so much!" & And gave me a big hug & then I winked at him & smiled as I walked away to pay for my purchases.... that he ended up paying for!!! What a nice guy!!! 😊❤️😊 Please hear his vocals on "Jane"---Jefferson Starship. The guy can really sing his ass off!!
@@jacqueline4514 Thanks Jacqueline!!! One of the coolest experiences of my life!! This happened 20-some years ago, but I remember every single detail of it, like it happened yesterday!! Mickey & all of em truly are very nice down to earth guys....treated me like they had known me for years!! 😊👍💕😊
You picked the right version. The outfits seem pretty funky but them vocals are solid gold! I dont know why more reactors don't react to this video. Mickey belting out this soulful version is absolutely incredible.
"used to be when I'd see a girl that I like, I'd get out my book and write down her name" . How many people out there remember the little black book. Awesome ☮️
You're the first reactor to comment on the back up vocalist. I love that!! I thought the exact way you did. She really just adds a vibe. Her vocals are nothing to play with!! All of it was great!!. Very nice analysis of the total performance!
Mickey Thomas is a amazing singer , one of my favourites he sings is a song called (Jane) when he was in the band Starship , would be great if you could include this one on your channel . Thanks for sharing 👍
I bought this vinyl back in the day specifically for this tune only. I saw Elvin Bishop in concert when this was a new tune. The guitarist is Elvin Bishop.
This song from Mr. Bishop, the bluesy guitar playing singer came out in 1975. It was very popular on the radio, and even though I was too young to relate personally with the lyrics, the song was lyrically enjoyable, and Alvin's voice was beautiful. Thanks for bringing back good memories. Great reaction!❤👍
The crazy thing is....back in the late 1970s....someone gave me a ticket to one of his shows. I was living up at South Lake Tahoe, but had no car & it was snowing like crazy. I missed the concert. In the late 1980s, I won a pair of tickets to see him, in a raffle at my company picnic. I had to work that night....& missed THAT show. Finally in the early 2000s, he was playing in Reno, at a hotel I happened to be visiting for the weekend. I bought a ticket....waiting to here THIS song. But he just did it as an instrumental. It was only a few years ago, that I discovered he was never the vocalist to begin with. It was after seeing this same video.
Richard, I requested the same song to Abra, "Jane", that you did too!!! Ive always loved how that song showcases Mickey's vocal range, as well!! He's a Great singer & a Great guy too!! Did you read my story of meeting Mickey one time?? It's in this same thread here. Check it out!! Hopefully Abra will honor our request, Richard!!🤞😊❤️🤞
No auto-tune here, just pure God given talent! The Starship had two of the greatest voices in rock, Micky Thomas and Marty Balin. Your reactions are great man, keep them coming. I think you might like this one Les Dudek , Old Judge Jones studio version because there are no quality live versions sadly.
@deeber will Absolutely correct! Love Grace Slick, I was meaning male vocalist although I failed to specify it. One of my fav songs is Stranger and the way she sings that with Mickey is pure gold.
I think that lady singing backup was walking that way because she has really high platform shoes on under those bell bottoms (btw I love that rainbow jumpsuit and need to get one just like it!) But you're right, she's grooving!
