Elvin Bishop is not singing here, it's his band :) The guy who played the guitar solo is Elvin Bishop. The singer here is Mickey Thomas, who's the lead singer of Jefferson Starship/Starship :) The dude has some serious pipes!
The title is misleading the great Mickey Thomas is on lead. Definitely one of the greatest singers ever. Elvin was on guitar, sooooo good! Later Mickey went to Jefferson Starship, you need to check out JANE, it's 🔥🔥🔥🔥. accompaning him was Grace Slick formerly of Jefferson Airplane. A shout out to all involved making this song sooooo good. One of my favorite songs ever
The power of Mickey Thomas's voice is worthy of Richter scale measurement, the man wasn't even breaking a sweat in this live version of Elvin Bishop's '76 monster hit (#3 US) -- if he was any further to the edge of the stage in this Midnight Special arrangement he could have been serving drinks. No autotune here, just a man, a mic, and raw talent. If you think this was impressive Empress, wait until you hear what he does on Jane (Jefferson Starship, '79). This guy's been so underrated over the years it oughta be a crime. Nice solo by Elvin, but I prefer the studio version's slightly longer solo. Jumpsuits ... porno-era mustaches ... muscle shirts ... 3-piece tan suits ... platform shoes ... elephant bell bottoms ... gotta luv the '70s and this song. 🔥💯
Oh my, I had that jumpsuit AND the rainbow tank she's wearing too. Also, some clogs in patent leather with the American flag on them. People used to cut the seams of their jeans open from the ankle to about mid calf or to the knee then sew a piece of triangular fabric in the opening to extend the flares. My neighbour had a pair like that which filled the entire doorway when she came to visit. 😂😂
The Singer admitted he was a "player," but he kept on fooling around and then "love" got a hold of him & he fell in love!!! Remember, if you play with fire you will eventually get burned!!!
Elvin Bishop later said that he was originally going to sing lead, as it was his song and his band, but he knew that Mickey Thomas could do it best. (Thanks Elvin!) It was Mickey’s big break through and one of the best songs of the 70’s. Big fan of Elvin Bishop through the years and Mickey with Starship. 👏🏾💫
The singer is micky thomas that went on to join Jefferson starship and save that band. This is what they played at skating rings on Saturday nights in the mid 70s. Along with the Marshall Tucker Band song."HEARD IT IN A LOVE SONG" . I had alot of girlfriends in my teens every one of them loved both these songs.. Years later i think in 1985 had a great honor to go on tour with them. I have met alot of musicians in my life let me tell you The Marshall Tucker Band are the most genuine humble bunch of guys a person will ever met. they even stop charging for there concerts.. i never met micky thomas but i love the range of his voice..love you too Empress
I remember those days Daniel, when skating rinks had REAL roller skates and not those wannabe inline models to come, LOL. My first introduction to one of those places was when my parents relocated us from NY to Southern Cali in '74, we popped in to check out the local rink one night with our real estate agent who was showing us around our new neighborhood and the place was playing Amii Stewart's "Knock On Wood" at about 10,000 decibels -- that was my 14 year-old "Welcome to the West Coast" culture shift. Since you're a Marshall Tucker fan, have you seen Dan Rather's interview on AXS TV with the band's frontman Doug Gray? It's excellent, and backs up what you said about him and the band being such down-to-earth kind-hearted guys -- "Heard It In A Love Song" is one of my all-time '70s favorites, it was released the year of my high school graduation. Here's the link to the interview if you want to check it out: www.axs.tv/video/5faf2c13b70e4f20111ef65f/ .
Mickey Thomas has the voice which is far superior to many others , his range is unbelievable , I am 56 years of age listen and watched many artists over the years and he is one in a million .
"Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is a song written and performed by blues guitarist Elvin Bishop with Mickey Thomas on lead vocals. Of Starship. I saw him at Disney every year with Starship. He was much older and hit every single note. You should look up from his stuff from Starship.
🔥🔥🔥FIRE!! This is the great Mickey Thomas on lead, Elvin on guitar thought Mickey would have been better, couldn't have been more correct. Mickey went to Starship. Miss Empress you need to check out JANE It's Fire and more! He and Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane did. duet or two together very very good!
70s classic! This was one of three songs that actually played on the juke box in my high school cafeteria. It was in heavy and permanent rotation with "Black Water" and "Sweet Home Alabama".
love this song but ever since i heard it in the great movie boogie nights i only think of boogie nights when i hear it. and marty thomas can wail on the vocals.
You may know thus or not but Elvin Bishop is not the guy singing that us Mickey Thomas. Elvin Bishop is the guy doing the guitar solo with the star on his suit jacket and the very fluffy curly hair. Really good song vocals for Mickey he used to be in the band Jefferson Starship with Grace Slick.

Nice Jefferson Airplane --> Jefferson Starship --> Starship synthesis RBS. I've been a fan ever since the Surrealistic Pillow days, including the Marty Balin vocal years (Ride The Tiger, Miracles, Play On Love, With Your Love). Never understood why Grace felt so professionally threatened by Mickey, it's not as if you'd get their voices confused. 🙄
@@craigcraigster4999 ....LOVE The Balin's "Hearts" solo tune! ...and, Grace probably thought it was HER Group, and saw 'her singer' getting all the accolades...Phil Collins, Teddy Pendergrass, Steve Perry, Belinda Carlisle...they ALL know what THAT'S like....
Hey empress you reacted to starship two months ago doing Sarah that was Mickey Thomas the lead singer of starship and he was in the band Elvin Bishop back in the 70s so you’ve already heard and seen him sing and there are some awesome Starship songs you have not done yet like find your way back and Jane
Elvin Bishop is the guitar player , who penned the song ..Mickey Thomas is one of the backup singers .This was Micks big debut.as the lead singer. . Notice that he's is singing from his backup singer's position..WAY OF TO THE RIGHT OF CENTER STAGE..No real front man would ever tolerate such disrespect...For Mickey, Its what they call paying dues...This is dedicated to all backup singer's.. Sometimes one of them became the band leader...Sheryl Crow..

Cool I didn’t know that!!
Good info.. thank you.
Heres another one :
Kool and the gang ,,the lead singer is NOT Kool..
Kool plays the guitar..
You are correct.
Andrew, I was listening to Elvin in 1969 in West Germany
One person overlooked in this great performance is Reni Slais singing the Harmony in this great song! She has some serious pipes too!
Just love when youngins finally hear our music 🎶
The 60’s and 70’s had all the talent.
That voice Mickey Thomas has is God given and God Blessed-Elvin just plays with so much passion-he's so damn soulful on that guitar.
The guitar player is Elvin Bishop, the singer is Mickey Thomas. Jefferson Starship
The man is singing with some SOUL!!!
Sheena Easton does a great cover of this song in her Live from the Palace, Hollywood concert release from 1982
It's worth listening to this song for the solo by Elvin.
My favorite you just keep on bringing them

Wow..love this!! Did you like the song, and I swear I got chills feeling his voice...
I saw this tune performed live 1976 at the Costa Mesa Calif Orange County Fair…. Elvin Bishop- Marshall Tucker Band- The Outlaws….. AWESOME SHOW
Is anyone going to mention Elvin is wearing a sheriffs badge. That means there’s a new sheriff in town.
Wow didn't notice

Listen to Elvin Bishop's Slient Night.
They are singing. The harmonies are tight. Why is Elvin Bishop the only one in a 3 piece Sunday church suit?

Incredible singer. The Jefferson Airplane stuff is epic. Funny how he can't sing falsetto..
Mickey sang with Jefferson Starship, never Airplane.
Can't sing falsetto? Apparently he never *needed* to, geez (said by a man who stuggles to hit a middle A)!
