I interpret Himeno's Ghost devil is like a death / funeral , from the outside it's like a creepy, evil, scary thing but looking at it's core it was somber and peaceful
The ghost devil has a very particular Japanese horror aesthetic, like the works of Junji Ito and Hideo Nakata.
@@kevinmackey3166 Very good point. I know that "yurei" often gets translated as just "ghost" (like in this series), but it's a very specific kind of aesthetic in traditional folklore - usually female, usually pale, sometimes monstrous like this.
Himeno dodged the felony but she didn't dodge that bullet. And Katana Man came chambered in plot-armor piercing rounds.

himeno earned all the respect in that last scene, sacrificing everything to give aki a chance and with that ost it was perfect, at the end she only gave affection and wanted to receive the same from the other person. I don't know, i find it so natural, she just showed herself as she was and didn't hide her true feelings towards others. This anime is better every week..by the way is not aki who buries the nail, it is curse and you can see his finger doing it.

csm has your characters constantly wearing a vest with explosives. and the detonator is in the author's hand. he kills any character regardless of their story development and potential. and he does it in the most brutal ways possible, which was the case with himeno. she sacrificed herself entirely, empowering the ghost demon so that he could defeat katanaman and protect aki, all for him to be instantly slaughtered by another character, making himeno's effort useless
@@fernandosiqueira2391 that's what's more pitiful, it was an effort for nothing or not enough, but still I think the simple action she had and the ending that was not common but giving everything for someone she loved, left her character very high .. independent of her being dead I really think her character perception changed after this.

I often see news stories about adults being arrested for having s●● with people under 18 years old.
Plus letting minors stay in your house without a permission of the minors guardian is also a crime so Himeno has to go to jail even if she didn’t make any sexual contact with Denji😂 But I don’t know if that law existed in this time because csm is based in 1997 and I wasn’t even born back then.

The official translation calls him 'samurai sword', but among the fanbase he's pretty universally called 'Katana Man' because it sounds better

He's actually literally called "samurai sword" in Japanese - using katakana サムライソード (sa)(mu)(ra)(i)(so---)(do). That name is only used in the volume introduction pages though.
Samurai is the people using armor "samurai" And the sword is called "katana"

OK, so just to clear any legitimate misunderstandings, Little riding red hood did not use any special power to revive Katana Man (or Machete Man, like you call him), but did the same thing everyone does with Denji: gave him blood or pulled on whatever his "ripcord" is to kickstart his powers of regeneration.

Himeno is a character I always liked because people I felt always judged her harshly however she was someone who has lived losing everything continuously, and barely surviving, making contracts with devils. Nothing in her life is concrete except that she and everyone she loves will most likely die horribly, so I just find it hard to judge her dislike her when in reality, she did some mildly sketchy stuff but she has no reason to actually care about much as she is always expecting to lose it anyway.
I loved this episode. Especially compared to the manga (which I also loved). The added scenes at the start of Himeno drunkenly stumbling through her house were great. The music was top tier as well. It's crazy how the first half of episode 7 and 8 were completely overshadowed by their second half's. The episode definitely leaves you unable to speak.
I'm not sure if the puke kiss overshadowed the Eternity Devil fight for me personally LOL

This episode really starts the rollercoaster ride that is the storyline. This is the first of several arcs and it's going to get really crazy.
I love watching people experiencing this episode for the first time and having no idea about things about to happen. The next week's episode will be epic and very crazy
And just so anime-only people realize - Mappa is getting this 100% right. Every time. They're ABSOLUTELY NAILING EVERYTHING. The tone. The feel of characters. Situations. Things like the vomit kiss, things like the Eternity Devil, the "perpetual motion machine," the train hit (and the hits on everyone else). They're doing it ABSOLUTELY COMPLETELY RIGHT. They're making an anime equivalent in every way.
The thing about manga and anime are that, like all other media, they do things that ONLY they can do, so you can't ever have a PERFECT translation of anime to manga, or manga to anime, so each has to compensate with things it does well. The anime did that with Snake here, for example. It's a VERY sudden thing in the manga, so they made you feel that with the slow "arm" sequence just before Snake swallows Ghost so suddenly. It emphasized that "quickness" by highlighting it in a way only animation can.
Mappa somehow figured out how to translate the madness of a FUJIMOTO TATSUKI MANGA perfectly. I cannot tell you how rare this is. Usually, you could say something like, "Yeah, but the manga does this this way, so it feels a bit different." I can genuinely say that I DO NOT SEE SOMETHING LIKE THAT YET. If you've watched the anime, you have the feel of Chainsaw Man. No manga reading is necessary. I would still recommend it because it's fantastic and obviously you can't fit EVERY SINGLE THING in like in the manga, but the feel is DAMN NEAR PERFECT.

It's funny how they are like "I would like them to have explained a little more" but when a series do explain things they are like "oh it's so obvious exposition...."

I think it's just supposed to be the classic anime introduction of the insanely powerful enemy, kills Ghost devil no biggie and manages to revive a dead fiend like Machete Man. I didn't find it confusing at all
I don't think they meant that part was confusing lol, more just the events of the episode altogether. It's very sudden and provides zero explanation, which is obviously deliberate and I don't think a criticism on their part. Anime-onlies aren't meant to know why this is going down yet
No typically in anime they introduce the bad guys or evil organization , you will see a bunch of shadowy people plotting
Or the bad guys show up and declare war and then go away and attack later
This was done with the akatsuki in naruto, in jujutsu kaisen where you see them plotting, demonslayer, etc...
Very rarely in anime do you have characters that pop our of nowhere and go for the kill

@@xblade11230 i didnt mean anime specifically moreso storytelling in general. In a lot of fantasy stories you'd have what happens in this show frequently. Character learns magic system, suddenly enemy shows up that abuses system to levels unseen.
Haha, I was very excited to see you two in particular get to experience a few of the sequences here. Fujimoto takes us on such a rollercoaster in such a short handful of chapters with Himeno - I've said it before but she's just such a wonderfully well-realized character. Her portrayal was one of the big factors for me in distinguishing Chainsaw Man from other, more immature Shonen where horniness and objectification abound purely for the purpose of titillating the audience of young boys. Despite us following the perspective of Denji and seeing the world through his eyes (and his *gaze*), Fujimoto understands and writes his women as people - very grounded and real and flawed, even through all the absurdity (and, ohhhhh boy, more absurdity is coming).
When Himeno tells us, the audience, that it must be nice to have someone care enough about you to cry for you when you're gone... I weep ;_;
Guess the brakes on chainsaw man's wild ride are off.

Actually it was never stated that Denji as hybrid was unique, Makima said hybrids are extremely rare and that she heard about just a few cases of them in history, or something like that
The comment “there’s always a bigger fish”, that’s an interesting comment. Got me thinking, this is one of those cool concepts where expectations are often subverted. Ghosts might be considered more powerful of an entity than snakes, but it’s not the actual thing that the devil’s strength is based off of, it’s how many people fear that thing which gives it power, which explains how snake beats ghost in this scenario. There’s tons of people who don’t even believe in ghosts but snakes are definitely real and tons of people fear snakes.
This episode and the rest of the series hinge on trust from the audience. The show has been running now for 8 weeks, and it's finally hit the point where people talk about 'Chainsaw Man beginning'. The story follows abnormal conventions to storytelling, specifically with regard to the pacing of narrative choices. The confusion you feel is normal, and a lot of decisions later on rely on information built throughout the story. The best thing to do with this series is sit on your thought, form your own ideas, and then see what next episode offers.

Only one line but it means alot that they addressed that in the show and i think a lot of shows should do the same thing. Sex with a minor is really bad and some shows tend to forget that

I thought those hybrids like chainsawman are pretty much immortals, they do die but can revive and regenerate somehow, just like when I watch the episode where chainsawman fights the hotel devil. Im sure he got killed by that but the patch lady pull his rev cord and instantly bring him back to life. So i guess its the same for this swordguy devil though this episode didnt show us how it happen, probably this lady unsheathe his dick or something like a sword to revive him.

I can't defend what Himeno did to Denji, but I think her behavior is explained by severe depression from losing her old partners that she drinks and smokes to cope with. And she has slowly broken down into a person who can barely function and make the right choices while off-duty. Which just makes her death more sad, because it would have been nice to have her redeem herself and get better mentally.
I don't like her from personal experience with women sexualy, but I understand her.

There honestly is no good moral standing character at all so far. What's interesting is each character has trauma from life experiences they've been through and we kinda see how each character deals with that trauma. Denji for example is always searching for happiness which he believes will come from sexual things and or living like a king (jam on toast). But as he achieves them he still fills empty or like somethings missing. Himeno is just as flawed as everyone else.

Hybrids like Denji are immortal as long as they get blood. Fiends like power can heal with blood, but not from a fatal wound. If they die, they die. That's why Power didn't even try
