I like how the perception of what's going on is completely switched here. It's not the fear that Hannibal, the psychopath you can't seem to hate, is about to be caught. It's just Beverly's presence in his house that makes you worry about her, because you know him.
I loved beverly and the fact that she at least realised what he was and didnt freak out and do nothing ... she looked him in the eye and shot at him... not many people even get that chance or have enough guts to do that.
The minute Beverly Opened that secret cellar you new she was dead! Just never thought sh'e be frozen and dissected in vertical slices. That was hard to watch.
I know it's been 2 years but damn is that not the word you were looking for. It means free from fault or not liable to sin. You used it to describe speed. And instead of owning up to a mistake you double downed.
Free from fault does not mean simply in the way of someone being responsible for something, a fault is something that weakens something, in that definition, free from fault means it is very good, and would be usable to describe someone's speed
I get that, but that morbid curiosity is what makes it so effective: nothing they could put onscreen would ever beat what your mind makes up to fill in the gaps...
in the first episodes of s3 you see Hannibal with dr gordon on a wheelchair, in his basement i think and in the scene it shows something like a trophy, a hand with snails on it
One of the few glimpses we see of the real Hannibal beneath the "Person suit". A real predator. Mads posture and facial Impression was really frightening. I got chills.
In the words of Edward Norton when he portrayed Will Graham in Red Dragon: "You don't strike me as a man who makes very many mistakes". Hannibal's only mistake in this whole series was falling for Will Graham, he is Hannibal's kryptonite. In the end, emotions can take down the most sadistic psychopath. Anthony Hopkins made the same mistake when he portrayed Hannibal in the movies when he became infatuated with Clarice Starling.
@@hammercrg He was definitely in love with Clarice. The books make that very clear; however just like his love for Will it was a VERY VERY warped version of the concept.
What i find pretty scary too is that he probably was in the house too, quietly watching her in the dark, like she was his prey (and she was) waiting for her to get to perfect spot to attack , and even if she manages to get out of the basement and hide he would find her , he always do
This is the classic "Come into my parlour, said the spider to the fly". Hannibal is the ultimate analytical predator. You think that he's in your grasp but really you're in his.
U knew she was dead the second she decided to go after Hannibal and not tell anybody what she was doing. This is a man who had been killing for years and u don't think he has a sixth sense about this.
i love the way he’s so eerily still for a good moment, then he lunges to act. such robotic movement, mads deserves a million awards for his performance as hannibal
the actress who played beverly had a melting moment. on the dvd commentary she said she was sweating when she did a scene early in this episode where her and hannibal discuss a body and will. she told a crew member and the crew member yelled at mads to stop making her sweat lol embarrassing her.
I honestly thought the gunshot to the floor would be used as a plot device later to expose him. I'm a little dissapointed his muder dungen was never discovered after he fled. Beverly was the only character to find it and thats where she died. It's so sad.
The very moment , I was actually terrified of Lector through the whole series, Mads' look and that evil smirk says it all, He was like a super predator waiting for his prey to come to him! The true savage , dangerous , intelligent , killer with his deadly look ; (the look which says it all about him and to what level he is dangerous revealing his true nature ) all of these are reflected with just that moment of his deadly stare and smirk, just like a lion, preying and waiting slowly for the prey and when the prey comes closer just snap at it in a split moment! That snap, that quick run reveals it all!
It's possible she saw Abigail, but given that Hannibal had his other house revealed in the last episode makes it more likely it was just a body, or a bunch of torture shit, as I don't see why he'd be bringing back and forth between the two for anything other than the end of season 2
One of the greatest shot in TV is that shot of the floor. Gunshots being heard than BOOM, bullet though the floorboard. And we know what happened. Powerful.
This is my favorite Hannibal scene. You really get to see the terrifying, yet composed, demeanor of the killer. One thing that’s always bugged me though, didn’t she have a flashlight with her? How on earth could she have lost that fight?
because we are talking about the guy who killed 2 armed officers in daylight at chiltons house try to fight of a serial-killer in a dark room while you have a flashlight in one hand and a gun in the other - you got bad aim and he can hide behind the pillars and so on…
Of all the people Hannibal killed, Bev is the only one I truly feel sorry for. She's my favorite character and I wished she stayed alive for a bit longer.
'The lights switched off, and Beverly fired in reflex. An excellent marksman, her talents at the helm of her glock never failed her before. And still with a source of light on her side from her torch, she scanned her surroundings in textbook form, following the soft yet telling steps of her encroaching adversary as Hannibal scurried closer towards her, like a Shark to the taste of blood in water. All her expertise, all her training, all her capabilities, all in spite of this, Beverly's fate would soon be sealed. A final scurry followed by another wild gunshot, and the contest between predator and prey claimed it's victor when Beverly's hands gripped firm to her weapon were now met with Hannibal's as he flanked from the shadows and grabbed a hold of her. Beverly's last gasp was masked with her throat being gagged, and her final shot failing her as she is forced to shoot the air. Her flashlight lost, and her toes barely touching ground, she would now meet and be introduced to the Chesapeake Ripper for the very first time, Dr. Hannibal Lector, in the flesh.
I love Beverly, she is very coroful character! She is my favorite female character in the film. But I can not believe that she is wonderful shooter made a mistake during the shooting!
Why is finished after 3 seasons confounds me , it was initially Commissioned for seven seasons but ended suddenly at the third I thought the program was absolutely incredible and one awards I do hope they bring it back
2 reasons why she had this coming: attempting to be stealthy but with a bright light shining everywhere; doesn't leave immediately with evidence to get armed police to the scene and investigate the hatch later.
She was dead the moment she broke into Hannibal's house. Rude. And notice how Hannibal followed her down into his murder basement? He was stalking her. She never stood a chance.
however a few episodes later Miriam Lass is found, the FBI agent whome's arm was chopped of 2 years earlier. If he had to keep her alive for 2 years it would be easier to keep her close
The actress is back on tv now on HBO playing a detective again on a great show called The Outsider based on the Steven King novel. She was great in Hannibal. Her death was one of the worst.
the 1st time i watched this, the moment that bullet went through the floor of dining area, you know that hannibal succeeded in knocking her out 😞 poor bev
I’m curious how the fight played out. How exactly did Hannibal approach her? I mean, Beverly did have a gun and she was quite a trained shooter. Hannibal must have turned Spider-Man or something
I'm assuming that despite all her training the sheer shock of realising not only were they wrong about Hannibal but monstrously wrong, then seeing him right there looking at her like a lion about to pounce as she's having this revelation, even the most skilled can get shaken by this. Hannibal would've closed the distance easy, not only is he crazy fast but we've seen he's skilled in combat. Her shots were blind as it was and through shock and fear she fired preemptively rather than conserve the shots for when he gets close to her so to not give away her position so easily (granted for all she knew he'd be at her with a knife and she'd be finished). So yeah with his speed and cunning he managed to close the distance and by the time he grabs her firing hand she was getting choked. Fair question though, this is all just an educated guess. Could you say he activated Spidey mode? Yeah I'd say so haha
Beverly had the disadvantage here in the dark without light. On the other hand, it didn't affect Hannibal at all since he had an extremely keen sense of smell and could rely on that to close the distance and defeat her.
@𝓙𝓾𝓵𝓮𝓼 𝓡𝓪𝓪𝓲𝓳𝓶𝓪𝓴𝓮𝓻𝓼 On top of that I don't see how having your body eaten after you're dead is horrific in any way, you're already dead so you don't feel the pain + someone gets a delicious meal (some animal or a cannibal in this case). As Hannibal says in S2 while conversing with Dr.Gideon: "The tragedy is not to die, but to be wasted".
Part of me is morbidly curious and afraid to know what Bev saw (could have been Miriam Lass, or some disturbing stuff that Hannibal does to have his "meat" prepared)...
I came here straight from the Director's Commentary of this episode to check the little "cluedoole" Bryan talked about. I can't believe I missed it despite watching this episode twice.
If only she'd gone to Jack even if he wouldn't have believed her at the time since because of Hannibal framing Will Jack still thought Hannibal was his friend and that Will was an insane Minnesota Shrike copycat killer trying to blame his murders on Hannibal at that point.
did will forgive hannibal for killing beverly?? he should never forgive him. this is very disgusting and evil. beverley risked her life for will. she was the only true friend will had. jack used him, alana treated him badly, nobody else believed him. beverley was so kind to will. will should avenge beverlys death by hurting hannibal in some way.
I don't think so. By the end of the second season, Will was basically in love with Lector, and because of their immense genius and phycological views on the world had them both of see life on a different spectrum than most others.
I like how the perception of what's going on is completely switched here. It's not the fear that Hannibal, the psychopath you can't seem to hate, is about to be caught. It's just Beverly's presence in his house that makes you worry about her, because you know him.

Curiosity killed the Kat. One question...what was she even doing in his house? Isn't it tresspassing since she doesn't even have a warrant?
You also worry for her because...you know she will be caught.
Seeing mads through the plastic sheeting is the first time you truly see hannibal, his posture is completely different and creepy.
That’s a shame, now isn’t it?
fr. s2 e4 was the very release where we saw the real hannibal
I loved beverly and the fact that she at least realised what he was and didnt freak out and do nothing ... she looked him in the eye and shot at him... not many people even get that chance or have enough guts to do that.
Yeah everyone else would had stay still sitting on their asses and accept death.
I love this scene, Mads looks so frightening
He doesn't even have to do anything. Your mind fills it all in.
Yeah..... Just like a predator
Exactly what i thought
how fast he turns the light off and runs is pretty scary
I love how you can see Hannibal's outline before she turns the light on
Autumn Winters I was just thinking about how that was such a nice touch
I don't quite understand why she didn't turn the lights on again... since the switch was next to her but ok
Utterly terrifying. The man she worked around, trusted, that those she trusted trusted. She saw him for what he was, and damn if he isn't formidable.
such a badass scene, shot goes through the floor letting you know he got to her
Yes. I never picked up on that.
Was that Katz's scream in the very end of this video?
Why would a shot goes thru the floor means that? He shot her from jaw?
@@radityaindera3442 no, i think it shows that he grabbed her, so her aim was thrown away from him and shot through the floor instead
I always thought it was Katz last shot to leave a clue for them
The minute Beverly Opened that secret cellar you new she was dead! Just never thought sh'e be frozen and dissected in vertical slices. That was hard to watch.
And then when he turned off the light in a flash and just ran. That chilled me...

She probably saw abagail hobbs ...
1:41 she found Hannibal’s secret Will Graham shrine

That move Hannibal is doing. Turning the light off while hiding behind a wall. Awesome
So that was a reflection of him that she saw in front of her?

Hannibal was so scary here and I miss Bev so much

Hannibal's speed is impeccable..

I’m a little disappointed that we never got to see his murder dungeon.
its not a dungeon, its more of a murder butchery
I get that, but that morbid curiosity is what makes it so effective: nothing they could put onscreen would ever beat what your mind makes up to fill in the gaps...
In the Red Dragon book didn't it say that what the FBI found in there was so horrible one agent ended up retiring?

Mads was such a good Hannibal
This scene was frighteningly well done.
