I vote it's only a spear because DS2 doesn't have the ability to change a weapon's class after you break it. it's 100% a twinblade once you unlock its real moveset, imo agreed on putting it just below the Rakuyo, though

i would "probably" put it tied with the Rakuyo or above it, solely because it does get the best of both worlds when it comes to the halberd/twinblades moveset, making it an S tier for PVP.
For me its just the aesthetic of a Twinblade. I don't really care about how optimal certain attacks are and how much damage they do in comparison to other weapon types, as long as they have a unique moveset they are my favorite typ of weapons. Double handed Eleonoras Poleblade just hit the Spot for me. Power stancing a Twinblade is just a no go for me, even if its optimal

The Rakuyo also gets extra points for being the only weapon on this list to be actually practical if considered in an irl setting. Twinblades as they are depicted in the other games are just a horrible idea. You get the exakt same range as a regular long-sword, but with way more weight, and significantly worse handling. If you want a longer weapon that is good at keeping away multiple enemies, just go with a Zweihänder or Halberd. However, the Rakuyo is build for a very different purpose. It's basically a shortsword, with a dagger attached to the handle, which makes it very dangerous in close-quarters. Hitting enemies with the pommel of your sword is already a historically viable tactic. Turning that pommel into a spike is just a neat idea. Additionally, the transformed mode leans into one of (if not the only) historically common form of dual weilding, sword+dagger.
Dark Souls 2 The only game where you can BOTH Infuse and Buff the same weapon. PLUS, it could also be a Catalyst. It's a shame that Elden Ring couldn't even do this much for its "Spellblade" builds.
On the ranking, I would put the twinned knight's much higher because it's the longest while having second highest AR in both str (after gargoyle's) and dex (after peeler). Also the best looking imo. For content ideas, Crescent Moon Axe marathon ? You could even include the hunter's axe in there
I did a twinblade run in ds2 Sotfs It was kind of a pain with the base twinblade till the stone dudes in drangleic castle (didn't know i could kill a red phantom in NG+ wharf with ascetics) and i could use it only in Amana. Lovely weapon even if i used it only there cause the red iron is the winblade
The R1s lead me to believe that Twinblades are trash when I played through the game blindly. Having the „big“ hit come out so late made it seem like I‘m going to trade damage with these things more often than not. Now, after becoming aware of all the ways to buff combos and powerstancing I do see the appeal and Eleonora‘s is just really stylish but unless I‘m jump-attacking through the game there are better options.
Sorcerers Twinblade reminded me how disappointing it is to not have actual weapons that can cast spells in Elden Ring. Imagine the Death Poker being able to cast death sorceries? That would be sick af even if the dmg is laughable. Personally I don’t like having to swap weapons to cast spells. Rocking dual Blueflame swords in DS2 in int build was pure fun, you don’t even worry about casts remaining.
They proc status really fast too. I think that would be on the list. I love them. Their move-sets just work with my play style I guess. But I definitely make really good use of them.

Gargoyle Twinblade too high. The extra AR isn't worth the shit range. Godskin Peeler's unique poking attacks and Eleanora's cracked ash of war are easily better. Powerstanced twinblades are also overrated imo. The dps potential is undeniable, but the hitboxes are wack and the output is inconsistent af

I must say that anytime i hear about twinblades i can only think about twinblades from red alert 3 and hear "twinblade inspection complete". Also i can bet those twinblade would beat all twinblades in souls series
twinblades are my favourite weapons in elden ring, they can be buffed in so many ways and have a lot of playstyle options, cant wait for more twinblades in the dlc
@youwy a quick note - Despite the listed scalings, Eleonora's Poleblade actually gets more damage with Arcane investment than Dex. Rivers of Blood is the exact same.
Second attack of the Red Iron twinblade ALWAYS comes off instantly. With this, you can literally follow up your first light attack with a heavy attack with almost no wind up.
Another thing about the Red Iron Twinblade, is that it has very high base damage, which is great for infusions. You can slap a lightning infusion on it and buff it with Sunlight Blade for what is probably the highest single-target DPS in the entire game.
