As a non-Bulldogs supporter I've always thought that the footy media has always had a vendetta against Bevo.
I totally agree, there are definitely huge segments of the media that have a vendetta against him visa vis any other coach in the game. They’ve been waiting for him to fail.
That said, the condescending way he responds to questions (the Tom Morris saga had a big say in the knives coming out) and just generally the highly deflecting way he gives reasoning for poor performances, and ultimately the main thing, performances and results on the field, means I think the questions the club will be posing now are very valid. He just doesn’t seem to carry himself or represent the club well. He’s definitely got a big chip on his shoulder.
I’m a Hawks fan, so biased, but the thing that impresses me the most about Sam Mitchell, other than how well he’s developing the young players, the style of play, and his hunger and drive to bring success to the club, is the way he conducts himself with the media, win or loss. He’s always circumspect and balanced, gives praise, protects his players and doesn’t get too caught up in emotions. He seems very composed and represents our club excellently. That’s what gives me confidence of the direction because it’s a manifestation of his genuine belief and you know he’s not making excuses or deflecting. He wants to get to the bottom of poor performances so we can get better.
Bevo on the other hand, makes a condescending comment about the average viewer not being able to understand the complexities of list management, after losing to the worst team in probably a couple of decades. It just wreaks of insecurity and there’s really no explaining a loss like that. Best thing you can do is apologise to fans and throw your hands up and say we need to do much better. His responses are a combination of poor judgement and poor communications skills.

Lets talk Ken up after 11 years of not even making a grand final yet go after Luke when he's won a grand final, made another one and sent Port packing in the most unloseable prelim in recent history where the dogs were a banged up, injury riddled team than blew port off the park in 10 minutes. This guys logic is beyond comprehensible.
Exactly Hinkley is lucky to still be coach after that long without a grand final appearance.

I'm a dogs fan and I love Bevo, but I must admit how we loose to West Coast who's been terrible all year, on our own turf no less I have no idea.

As a member for 42 years, I’m used to disappointment but not in recent years. Sunday’s loss after leading at 3/4 time was the most disappointing effort since the windy night they lost to West coast in a final in 99 and consigned themselves to a straight set exit. It is beyond belief that they could lose that game. That said, WCE played liked a finals side on Sunday.
In the wash-up I think the fans deserve honesty from club leadership, coaches and players. Don’t stuff us around. Sure Bevo got us a flag, but he’s not the only good coach out there. Has the message got tired? Maybe a fresh face will make all the difference.
Let him finish out his contract, he deserves that much .

its interesting that Kane didnt sound like this when it was the dogs who flogged port in the prelim with the game being over in 10 minutes. He then got a call from Ken to stop being critical and we havent heard nothing but propaganda from him since when talking about Port. By the way the Bulldogs are only an average team and to have them on the fringe of the 8 is no surprise to me.

Change for the sake of change is often stupid and in my opinion a reactionary response to a potentially disappointing season but who knows. They could get into 8th position, go on and make a GF, who knows, you just gotta be in it to win it.
If it goes sour, and a deep dive review determine that Bevo is the issue and that his gameplan or the way he prepares his players is inadequate, then you can make a change

Bont and Libba are guns. Macrae, Smith and Treloar are fine. The rest of the midfield are VFL level.
JUH is developing. Naughton is a gun. The rest of the forward line is average at best.
The backline is a mess. Daniel and Dale rack it up but so do the halfbacks at every other club.
Gardner, Bruce and Keath wouldn't get games at any other club. Had to bring in 32yo Jones to hold down FB and a rookie in O'Donnell is the next best KPD we've seen this year.

You name several guns and then say the players around them are average.
Majority of teams have a few guns then average players around them. There isn’t a team in the AFL that has a gun list top to bottom.

Bevo isn't Ross Lyon but I don't think too many coaches would be dominating the comp with the current list either.

Even compare them to the current saints list, the dogs list nearly superior in every way.
Back 6 is bottom 4 in the league in terms of actually being able to defend because bulldogs midfielder lack of on ball pressure. Their bottom 6 of the 22 are vfl standard and they gutted their depth during the off-season, key postion players still have years to develop as well.
That bit in the 2021 grand final in the last few minutes of the third quarter.... the dogs just gave up and they wanted to get out of there, you could see it on the faces of all of the players..

At least Bevo has taken them to two grand finals and several finals series. Before him the Dogs were rubbish for decades and went through coaches almost annually.
Yet it has never amounted to anything under him since 2016 (which we all know was lucky).
Also why do you think so many Dogs players look towards leaving the club and play some of their best footy ever in their career afterwards, like Hunter, Dunkley, Roughead, Lake and Adams, while players like Smith, Macrae and Naughton are one-dimensional and stagnant? Bevo doesn't know how to develop talent and it shows.
The fact Bevo said he's still the number one coach to lead the club after a loss like that and a season like this shows his delusion.

@@zinthe2674hunter is not suddenly a better player now that he’s at Melbourne. Dunkley won the best and fairest last year and is only continuing on at Brisbane, he has not become a better player. Roughead did not perform any better at Collingwood. Lake was past his prime when he came to the dogs.
I don’t like bevo as a coach either but you’re just being unfair. It’s not his job to develop talent. There are that many other people around the club you know.

I’ve been a bulldog fan since 1955 and this team is best described in one word - FICKLE
he can stay as long as he wants. need to trade bailey smith for value and Aaron Naughton. We lose games purely because of his set shot accuracy. 1-7 this season in games decided under 2 goals is very unlucky. could very well be top 2 if we went on a collingwood run.

When a player loses form or does not put in much effort, he is dropped to VFL. Maybe the same needs to go for coaching staff. And if the head coach fails at VFL level, he needs to be shown the door.
In defence of Bevo, he hasn't had much of a list from which to choose: nearly half of his players cannot rise above VFL level. The recruiting staff my be the problem. But then Bevo's game plan of chipping the ball around is really lame.
Carlton wanted to get rid of Michael voss and they are now in the finals, all clubs have slumps, Collingwood wanted to rid of buckle again they went into finals same with Richmond .

Getting to the GF years ago was a fluke, it was an accident at the time, the bulldogs basically are just one of the teams who become fodder, sad but true.
Beating hawthorn away, west coast away, GWS away and then beating Sydney in the big game is no fluke. You cannot call beating 4 of the best teams in the comp at the time consecutively a fluke.

In 21 it was dogs and Dees on top all year. We slipped to 5th but I think our finals wins righted that. The prelim win was sensational.
