    Missed one! Ibanez Artcore bass. I bought a beautiful red burst about 6 years ago. Looks fantastic, played like shite with the standard strings. I hated it for a year. Then I put chrome flats on it… what a transformation! Now it sounds fantastic, very warm - almost like an upright.

    The Jack Casady Bass is still the best value bass on the market imo. I always bring that to sessions, and the sound guys always end up preferring that over expensive custom shop basses from other brands. Happens every time! :-)
    They put some magic in that pickup for sure.

    Finally there are some hollow body basses with proper bridges. I don't really like those bridges that the typical violin basses have. I want to be able to properly adjust the intonation at the bridge...

    Surprised how good the Epiphone Jack Casady sounds. It's like a P-bass in hollow-body form. And the switch seems like position 2 treble boost and position 3 lowpass filter or treble cut/mid boost (pretty decent cliff burton sound). That Epiphone sound in the B&G body shape would be killer.

    • @Kevin-the-Just

      Years ago I had the Gibson original version of this Jack Casady bass. Back then (early 70s) it was called the Les Paul Signature. It did indeed sound like a hollow P-bass and this Epiphone is a really close sound-a-like.

    • @NLBassist
      @NLBassist 2 года назад

      I always say the original Les Paul Sig - a bit different sounding than the JCS - is the best P around.

      The Guild Starfire has a P-bass type pickup in the "correct" place, and supposedly sounds better than the Jack Cassidy bass, so I'm leaning towards it.

    I've got multiple semi and true hollow bodies, including a couple of antiques and a high-end boutique instrument. The Jack Casady is a fave, and unlike the vintage ones and the snob instruments, I don't worry too much when I play or transport it. Definitely a workhorse and in a good way.

    I believe that rather than a mid control, the Jack Cassady bass knob controls the impedance of the pickup, something like splitting the coil at two different spots, which is like adding lengths of coil to the pickup = more output across the board = more compression

    Currently more of a collector than a musician as in the "old " days, arthritis winning the battle there, but I would have hoped that you guys would have thrown in a "P" bass or jazz base or otherwise, just to get a perspective of the advantages ( or disadvantages) to a semi-hollow bass. I believe that there is a place for semi-hollows but I would like to here the distinction before I dole out $1k (US) or more.

    First off that Gretsch sounds amazing on the outro jam! My computer speakers couldn't pick up most of the bass coming out of the Jack Casady with highs rolled off, I thought I'd muted the video! Is it just me or is there a noticeable fret buzz on all of the import Warwick's they test? Is it a setup issue? Cheap strings? I have played some used ones and didn't remember it being so prevalent
