the fact that i had to come here to learn how to grab a ledge when jumping cuz the in game controls menu is too unclear 🤦♀️😂 few minutes in and im already frustrated with the controls 😅

The fact I have to pull my guns to step/jump back is bothering me already. Would it not have been better to just split the D Pad & Analog (D Pad Walk/Step, Analog for Modern Movement)?

Tank Controls work fine, but are sort of too dated for my liking. This is about how Modern controls could be laid out better :)

Yes and they need a way to side step left and right. No way to do that at all on modern controls. At least not that I have found
If you go into "Look Mode", then hold back on the left stick. Deactivate look mode whilst still holding back on left stick and Lara will do a back step.
The modern control scheme is broken, which is a shame.
As the previous poster said, they should have set the D pad to step forward, back and left/right. 😏

It clearly says in the tutorial to press the action button to grab and the action button is triangle in the settings but it’s actually R2 to grab and not triangle. Plus how do I step back on modern controls to do a long run up ?
You either have to hold L2, or I have found that if you go in to look mode, then hold back on the stick and deactivate look mode, Lara will do a back step.

I don't think they thought the modern controls through that much. Also where are the hotkeys for flare etc
you can automatically light a flare by holding select (inventory button) and press triangle (look button), just like it used to be in the original TR3 for PS1 (here it works in TR2 too)

@@anthonyhawthorne3450 yeah many people don't know this because it's a feature that neither the original game nor the remaster tells you. I think it was explained in the TR3 PS1 manual but that's it
@@RetroGamer99999 I played it not long ago on ps3 and was AUTO using flares. Was playing remastered last night on xbox. Maybe just got confused with controls.

agree, modern controls might work in early game but I am 100% sure you will have many problems in late game, with all the tricky jumps and stuff

"Modern controls" settings in these games should just uninstall the game when you select it. The zoomer not being able to grasp the concept of tank controls will never not be funny.

Anyone who is new to these old classic tomb raiders. Do not use modern controls, it will not make your life easier, as it removes most of the mechanics that are needed. You guys will just have to learn and get use to tank controls. When you do get use to it you'll realise how skill base it can be
They need to seriously patch the controls they are awful, the fact that I had to RUclips the controls says a lot about the game.

Also, I think the worst part of the tank controls is that lara doesn't lock on enemies, this really annoys me
The modern controls are a wee bit too fiddle-y for me, so I'll stick with the classic controls I'm used to, for now.
I'll definitely do a playthrough next time with the modern controls.
I decided to just uninstall the game I’m just getting to old to play with frustrating controls. I’m ok with this decision as I have very fond memories from the past ❤
Honestly some of the worst and most unintuitive controls I’ve ever played in my life. I remember playing back in 99 and it wasn’t nearly as hard and I was 5 😂 I’m 30 now and couldn’t figure it out for the life of me
What's the point of a remaster if we have to pretend it's the 90's and we can't get tutorials in-game?
Grabbing seems to make me jump less high so I’m constantly jumping into platforms and not on them. I’m so frustrated.
I love how I had to look up a guide when using modern controls just to figure out how to do this ledge properly, i almost gave up and went back to tank controls.

One useful strategy for modern controls when needing max jump distance is instead of the backstep to the beginning of a square, just hang off then pull up, you'll be at the same spot.

Wait so bad at game, game bad. Solid review
On modern controls, when the camera starts spazzing out after you positioned Lara for a run and jump. DONT FIGHT THE CAMERA! Start your run and jump sequence by tilting the analog stick up. For any instance that the camera start screwing around treat the controls like tank controls and you’ll be fine. The camera is 90% of the problem it needs patching. Also dpad movement needs to be disabled on modern controls. Down dpad button should be a hop back button for lining up long jumps. Modern controls can be great and make these old games feel new. They’re fun once you adjust the layout to your liking. Don’t dismiss them entirely am just as proficient with them as I am with the tank controls. TR vet here since 1996!
It is really worth mentioning how to operate the speedboat in TR2:
- Left trigger to go forward (Easy to figure)
- Right trigger to go backwards (Easy to figure)
- Main action button allows to hop in the boat (Not intuitive at all !)
- Roll button + left/right to jump out of the boat (I would have never guessed it)
- Jump button gives a (very needed) boost while pressing trigger button (It was a hell to find that info)
The “Venice” level in Tomb Raider II is impossible without that very important information

Well I have to say the photo mode on the Xbox is NOT with LB and RB, it is on L3 and R3. I can say that because I play the game on Xbox

If the side flips are locked to the "guns out" mode, and in TR1 you don't have access to your guns in the mansion, that means the tutorial of TR1 is unbeatable with modern controls.
@@daviddamasceno6063 actually, it let me complete the tutorial TR1 after swimming and getting out of the pool. So I guess they just let you go or something.

@@TrophyTom lol I absolutely agree. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me. I tried both control schemes last night & It's so hard to go back to old Tomb Raiders controls after almost 20 years. The modern controls just don't feel well implemented especially within this games level structure. Tank controls unfortunately are the way to play these games.
They should map the d pad to tank controls. It wouldn't fix everything probably, but at least we'd have the more options. I switched back to tank for a puzzle. I still don't know how to work them but rolling around on time was cool for it in the collesum puzzle.
