    I owned the 660. It was fantastic. But I just played the 670 at Guitar Center and it blew my mind. Sounds are SO good. The guys did a good job in this video, but they should have added some of the live sound from the room so that you could hear some of the ambient speaker sounds.. and mixed that in with the direct line out sounds. I think that would have improved what you guys are hearing and judging. But this video is great.. they're just trying to help you understand the differences and similarities. But ultimately, you have to judge it by playing it yourself. And when you play the 670 in person, you'll know the speakers are loud enough (one complaint I've heard - only 6w) and it sounds INSANE! Cheers

    I bought the 670 for my son a couple of weeks ago. We upgraded from the p71 which is the Amazon version of the p45. The action on the keys seems to me, a lay person, to be roughly the same. Everything else about the 670 is better. The sound is fantastic, remember I don't know what I am talking about but it sounds much better to me. This keyboard does so much that I wonder if Alamo music would be doing tutorials on all it's functions. No one has done them yet and these keyboards are selling like hotcakes. I imagine there would be a lot of interest.

  • @squeakD
    @squeakD 3 года назад +9

    The 660 did not have a 16 trk sequencer. For those who want to know important differences. 670 poly is up to 256, much better piano samples, full style editing and ability to create user styles (4 variations), proper 16 trk arranger sequencer with post song editing, a bunch of Super Articulation voices (over 40 of them), Voice Set feature added with dedicated user voice slots, color screen, Bluetooth. The 660 simply WAS NOT a proper arranger workstation due to many limitations. All that changed, and with the addition of the new features, and when used with the three pedal unit, the 670 is a proper arranger workstation now. If it isn’t obvious yet, I own the 670.

      @fartpoobox ohyeah I know sound is subjective. I didn’t own the 660, but did have access to one that I played regularly. I think the piano sounds are a big improvement on the 670. I felt that the 660’s pianos were good, but were lacking.

      Hey thanks for that. I have a P125 and thinking of upgrading. Have you done much with the 16 track recorder? My main use for that would be to pre-do backing tracks for songs that I can then play along with live on this keyboard or a smaller portable one I use for busking (while I might start controlling the accompaniments “on the fly” like an arranger keyboardist does, I would like to be able to create and save reusable ones especially for my portable keyboard)

    I own a DGX 670 and love it. It plays nicely and the sounds are top quality, you can adjust it easily with the color screen.
    The best feature in my opinion is the accompanying button as it plays with you, great for creating songs and for cover as you don't really need to program your backing tracks, The bass line will follow you. Love it!

      @@dnwinarto it depends on your financial situation...if you have the cash, it may be a decent upgrade..can you sell the 660, and get some cash to put towards the 670?.. before you do anything, it would be nice if you can actually go to a store and play the 670... if the difference in sound and the few additions aren't ... a big deal to you, i would stay with the 660.....just remember, in a couple of years the 670 will be replaced with a new model...

    I own a DGX-650, and love it, but have been pondering upgrading to the 670, but I'm disappointed that the key action hasn't improved. That's my only real criticism of the 650, is that the action feels cheap, compared to the P45 and 115/125, and after 8 years playing on it, it's become noisy...the keys make a noticeable clanking sound, both going down and returning when let up. It's especially frustrating when playing very soft passages, hearing all this thunking from the keys, and when I play with headphones in, my roommate has even mentioned how noisy it is. If Yamaha had put the same action into these as the P45 and P115/125, I'd be happier with them. I've played some of those that are the same age as my 650, and the action doesn't clank and thunk, and feels just a bit more solid and accurate.

    Goshdarnit....I purchased a Kawai ES920 from Alamo last year. I hate to say it but this is superior in many ways. But its OK, I will happily continue my piano practice with the Kawai. Hmmm, I need to explore if I can download MIDI files from my laptop onto the Kawai like I can with the DGX 670. Probably, using a thumb drive. But with the DGX670 I apparently can run the MusicSoft music downloader from Yamaha and do it direct from laptop to the piano using the MusicSoft Music Downloader Windows app. Have not tried that yet.
    The screen is lovely but very small to read the music scores that you can get with MIDI files. The DGX670 comes with a bunch of lovely songs in MIDI format, many with lyrics. I just ran "Danny Boy," and it shows the notes and lyrics. In 'Guide' mode it waits for me to hit the right notes before it moves on! Nice! To run such MIDI files on my laptop I guess I'd need a program like Cakewalk or whatever. Anyone know if Cakewalk can display the lyrics of songs from MIDI files?
    Really, guys.....instead of yak, yak, yak, yak, I wish you'd spent time on the real MEAT of this keyboard, like the MIDI song feature that I wrote about above! :)

    Which digital piano to go after, if I want to upgrade my Yamaha P-45 (hate the fact that it can't remember settings, so have to add reverb etc. every time I turn it on).
    I was looking at your review here, but I really don't need all the bells and whistles this got. I could do with the "piano room" feature alone. I got a DAW and VSTs if I wan't to sound like a guitar or a trumpet :) I have no need for all the accompanions etc. Just looking for a keyboard with good grand piano samples and a decent keybed (still a beginner but like the weighted keys on my p-45).
