I'm a Black woman & vaseline or petroleum jelly are my mainstay for makeup removal. I apply vaseline on my lips after brushing my teeth & before applying lipstick. Like the model in this video I too dab vaseline on my eyelashes as well, only a small amount so as not to clog the hair follicles along my lashline, because your eyelashes need to be moisturized just like the face & body. Regarding the vaseline to the lips before applying lipstick, I never have to reapply vaseline to my lips for the remainder of the day when applied each morning, & applying it at night keeps my lips plump & moisturized all during the night.

I'm not a professional or anything but I have found that it's better for your skin if you use a cleansing balm to take off your makeup first and then use a cleanser because the cleansing balm gets stuck inside your pores and the cleanser is to get all the oils and dirt out but obviously you look stunning so if it works for you keep doing that but that's just a little tip for anyone :) have a great day!
Anok is undeniably beautiful, in every sense. After this video, I am a convert from fan to stan. My thoughts on her skincare routine itself: •TLDR: nix the cleansing balm, replace with an actual water-based cleanser. use the mask and oil, followed by Vaseline to to seal in hydration. eye cream and lip potion not necessary. - I don’t cringe too hard at the African black soap being used before the cleansing balm, because I can imagine ABS being sufficient in breaking down the oily film of gunk on the skin in the evening. I don’t use ABS, personally, because of my concerns about the ingredients each bar comprises and these ingredients’ quality, as these factors do vary between the different batches from various producers. But I also recognize its cultural significance in some social spheres, and know that that is important in self-care practices as well. - IDK if Anok is sponsored by Estee, but their use here, to me, is not that bad. In the quick research I did, I was surprised that most of the EL products she uses have ingredients that don’t seem offensive or sensitizing. The cleansing balm does have fragrant ingredients, and I do find it weird to see it as a second-step cleanser. Even after rinsing it off, I would imagine that I would be uncomfortable with the possibility of leaving a slight film of an occlusive cleanser with fragrant ingredients on my face. If she really wants the moisturizing properties of an oil-based cleanser in the 2nd-step cleansing phase, as opposed to a “proper” water-based cleanser, I would recommend Pond’s unscented classic cold cream. At least this mineral-oil-based formula will seal her skin barrier, without the fragrance. It might leave some surfactant agents behind, though. Truly, a water-based cleanser as a second step is easier to thoroughly wash off; and dry-skin-friendly, moisturizing second cleansers do exist, like LRP’s Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Facial Cleanser. - The face mask appears to be fragrance-free, and contains nice ingredients, most of them good humectants and emollients. Similarly, the night repair cream - which I know is a cult favorite, and which I thought would be scented - also appears to be fragrance-free, and largely humectant-based. (It does seem to contain red dyes tho? 😬) - If Anok really wanted to keep these two products, I would recommend that she: use the ABS, then an actual water-based second cleanser afterwards, followed by the mask, and then the oil. - To lock in all the water-drawing, hydrating ingredients in the mask and oil, the next step is where I would suggest a mineral-oil-based cream/ lotion. Or, tbh, I think that 100% petrolatum - like Vaseline - on the lips and entire face is a great, safe occlusive moisturizer for nearly everyone. - The Estee lip potion isn’t my thing (why go to bed with scented makeup?, and underneath good-ol’ Vaseline, at that); and the eye serum doesn’t seem to be harmful. But I personally use my regular face moisturizer in my eye area, instead of a dedicated eye cream, and it works for me. - Altogether, I didn’t see any glaring issues with her skin care routine. The order of her routine did throw me off a bit 🤔, but most of her (leave-on) products had no particularly sensitizing ingredients. Ultimately, I would suggest that she: ditch the cleansing balm, and find a new second cleanser - one that is water-based; continue using the jade roller, if she wants to, after the mask oil, and gently; and lastly, for her post-cleansing phases, to stick to just face mask -> oil -> Vaseline, in that order. - This took me so long to write out, so thanks for tagging along, if you’re reading this far-in.
