Filmed on the eve of THE seventies and now all in THEIR seventies!
My husband is a Veteran, United States Navy, Vietnam WAR. He did what was considered the second most DANGEROUS job after of course the battlefield, he worked the flight decks of the aircraft carriers Ranger and Midway IN THE GULF OF TONKIN!!!!!! Look it up!!!!! I'm very proud of my sailor!!!!!
Fuck me, I come across this every few years. Jocular and heart-wrenching at the same time. Masterpiece. Hope he's proud of it. Many thanks.
One of the greatest war protest songs ever written...it has humor, sarcasm, & truth, with a very good performance. Seeing the audience is like opening a Time Capsule. 1969--- I was already out of college & had served two years in the Army by then. By some miracle, I had been sent to Germany, not 'Nam. Thank you, Buddha-Mind.
This song makes me so sad, so sad! How many young men haven't died since this was recorded. Endless of young men and women have died for no gain at all! May the future costs NO LIVES to war far, far away! The injustice is horrible and other countries are no better but paying up their share of human sacrifice to endless hopeless wars!
Favorite song performed at Woodstock.
Pretty sure I heard this on Doctor Demento back in the day. Great tune.
My friend had this song in a dream about how he got shot in vietnam, and some how got to woodstock. when he got there, this song was playing... I just found that out, and the description he gave of country joe is accurate
Such beautiful people in a beautiful summer of love ...
Damn I love this song it's literally iconic of the 60's Vietnam anti-war movement and it's just a great song. You can always replace the word Vietnam with Afghanistan and it still works. You to can be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box.
Vietnam was 100x worse
What are we fighting for?
Who knows" I don't give a dam.
Next stop is Afghan-is-stan
If only i had a time machin, ill be there for years. rewind rewind rewind.
How can you not like this?
This is the one everybody remembers.
. . . and it's 1-2-3 what are wefightin' for?
Peace all over the world!
We sure need it. Not alot of peace to be found on the planet these days
Noticed that Joe's military shirt is the same one Barry Melton wore at Monterey in 67
@TheGrownUpAdult the hippie era is over, there's never gonna be another woodstock.
@TheGrownUpAdult forget 2019. i wanna have one this year!
0:43 I don't know about the others in the audience, but this one I am guessing already received his draft when listening to the song.
The girl clapping right after at 0:45 meanwhile seemed more enthralled with the rythm than the politics or the reality of it.
I could be wrong.
That's strange, that's exactly what I thought. You know the movie Hamburger Hill, watching this black kid's face shakin' I remebered Doc's words "It don't mean nothing man. not a thing."
I thought perhaps he just got back nam
yeah, thought the same
1:23 If you wanna see true happiness.
@Th3Dav33dSh0w why cant people like the music of another era without putting down the talent of this one, and talent their is, my dear, whether you have ears that hear or not.
great quality!
❤epic!
love how theres no dislikes on this
@TheGrownUpAdult i absolutely agree with you !!
The really Pop Song
@TheGrownUpAdult There was a Woodstock '94, so a 2019 show would be attempt #4.
respect
Thanks for this, man. I love this song it still is the best Anti-War song evere made !
@TREYOLDHIPPIE well put sir, you speak the truth
Lets try woodstock 2012 with Rise against, bullet for my valentine, and all the good bands now!:)
thanks for clearing that up. I always thought it was Bush who started the way and Obama was the one wanting to bring the guys back. How mistaken I was.
@TheGrownUpAdult That would be awesome... but actually it would be Woodstock 6! Didn't even realize that until I looked it up myself, '69 (the good ole' original), '79 (10 yr anniversary show at madison square garden), '89 (20th anniversary at the original site), '94 (25th anniversary in Saugerties, New York) and '99 (30th anniversary at defunct Griffiss AFB, no irony there)...
the black guys face makes me laugh every time
He might be a bit high
@TheGrownUpAdult That would be amazing!... Btw, it would actually be the Fifth Woodstock... 69', 89' (aka. the forgotten woodstock), 94', and 99...
@TheGrownUpAdult Yeah, give our generation a chance! ;)
The guy in the white shirt at 0:40 is soooooooo high
woodstock- the sixsties waren die besten!!!
The young people of the 1960's didn't mind making the crooks and liars in D.C. squirm.
@TheGrownUpAdult Peace needs its own revival before we revive the festival of festivals
@sdivine11 Amazing. What did he think?
Happy 75th Birthday to Joe McDonald. We may need to rewrite this song over the next four years, to reflect whatever war Orange Hitler wants to wage.
Orange Hitler-funny... Hes a crazy wacked out kinda fella. Everyday w him is chaos. Good luck to us all. We need it
What dumb comments
Silly he is the only President who didn't get us into a war , and tried hard to get us out of one ,turn off CNN and MSN and open your eyes and mind .
@@richardsolberg4047 Fool, Trump committed treason, betraying us to Russia, North Korea and Saudi Arabia. CNN loves Trump, they promoted him in 2016 because they valued ratings and money more than their country.
la mélodie est piquée à ''muskrat ramble'' ? non ? écoutez la version des Andrew sisters...
The Romney / Ryan adds popping up on this station are, I'm guessing, money misspent.
whyd they do a sing along when he was talking were we supposed to say every he did in the theatre or somethin?
Still relevant today, if you just change the word vietnam to iraq
I'm writing a history test about this tomorrow, wish me luck people (:
how did you go?
Did I see a Bircher in the crowd? I guess not.
is it just me or the man at 1:45 to 1:50 look like lee harvey oswald
@TheGrownUpAdult Maybe :)
Wall Street Still Slow.
It's not HD it was rendered in HD but that does not mean it is HD
0:33 Gorgeous
Many americans complain that the rest of the world hates them. That´s not true. The fact is that the world wouldn´t have got things like this ( or much bigger things such as Coppola´s movies, or Zappa´s music, or Salinger´s books, and so many many others ) from any other candidate for leading political power in the XX century. Culturally speaking, we don´t expect much from the chinese, for instance.
was that eddie murphy?
Strange. I could take a short bus ride to Vietnam. Will visit some day and pay respects.
Wow short bus ride to nam. Where do u live? Cambodia perhaps?
@bartelby2 You misspelled the word hippie... so go and write it in Russian.
Just think, all these people are 60-ish now.
Or 70ish
Has nothing to do with the video which is an excellence one. I noticed that there are no fat people in it:). This was the time before pesi, coke, and all the snack companies went to corn syrup in their products. Before McDonalds, and the other fast food companies which have caused so much misery with their drugs and products, and hormones, and fried chickens which was raised with hormones in 2/3 weeks.
Eww think Ill fast for the rest of my life
No! Nobody has to marry at all. love is not a contract
One of the great anti-war songs.
Many of the people who thrilled to this (as I did) now vote for and support for politicians who wage wars without end. Did Country Joe vote for the warmonger Obama?
Without the draft I doubt there would ever have been a massive anti-war movement during Vietnam.
next stop is iran...
Actually its still Afghanistan
OMG...its bubbles's father at 10 seconds
Yeah she has a nice mustache.
@TheGrownUpAdult Can only do that if the music gets better cuz damn near everything is shit.
Should be the Ukrainian national anthem
i hope he got whats comin to him our men helped alot of good people from those communist sons of guns if it wasent for people like him there be a democracy in that country
He was in the navy during vietnam- he enlisted
Get a bath you hippies
