It's crazy how far rc cars have come. I had some very cheap basic ones in the seventies and ended with a Tamiya Willies Jeep in the eighties that cost all my paper route money b4 moving on to other things.
and now for 100-150$ you can get a pretty good entry level one .
It’s hilarious to think that someone believes almost 20 years ago is the same as the 1980s….
Lipo batteries, brushless motors, not to mention ELECTRONIC speed controls.
How about buying kits with 3 speed resistors that ran off the second cheap ass servo that came with the radio.
I mean, batteries did charge in 15 minutes. But they ran for 10.
Plus they didn’t have 10% the power you can get with even a 2s lipo then.
Now you can grab a couple of 3s batteries for $60, a motor and ESC for $60 and whatever gearing you want, the sky (or your diff) is the limit.
I started with a tamiya bearhawk in the early 90's..had one of those servo controlled speed controllers and a ridiculously thick plastic shell..a old school brushed motor and at the time it was kinda "exotic" lmao..Times change FAST!!

Wow Kevin, been watching your vids for years and they just keep getting better and better, very well put together and very professional. Great editing in the first part to speed along the process, but didn't cut corners and did things right! (Like drilling and taping the servo arms to the right size)

I do love 1/5 rc this was a great video. Looks like fun in the track with so many large scale. I’ve got my eyes on the new Losi DBXL 2.0 gas. It’s got the 32cc zenoah. Would be a lot of fun. I’ve got a 1/5 12S Losi 5B converted buggy also
With spectrum 8s electronics you can also wind up punch and the motor timing to make an appreciable improvement for no money ! ;)

Mannnnnnnnnn I just slapped a larger pinion in mine and it did exactly that, tore up the right front tire and the foam exited. I now run Masher X's and they are epic. Stock wheel and tires are good for the stock pinion as delivered but if you throw the largest pinion it can hold in stock form she rips! but get ready to buy more wheels and tires. A $15 pinion cost me $200 in wheels and tires lol. So much faster though, don't regret the change at all.
Losi doesn't really get the recognition they deserve imo.
They really make some quality stuff.
5Ts are epic in stock form but trick em out and they make a awesome bit of kit and bulletproof

I love your 1/5 scale vids! All of them are great. But as someone aspiring to get into 1/5th scale. It particularly interests me.
Also, have you ever thought of doing any of the Kraken Vecta.5? Those look like amazing quality rigs and something that sometimes takes a little criticism for breaking. But they look so well build I have hard time believing it.
And of course with the standard fair of must have aluminum upgrades as anything with that much weight tends to break when bashed.

Kev' the thought just occured to me...Can you imagine how intense the fire would be if that Lipo storage box caught fire because a faulty Lipo shorted out or malfunctioined in some way!!?? The heat that all those high capacity Lipos would genertate during an electrical fire would, impo, easily exceed the melting point of the Steel that the box is made of and the metal would literally melt and thus you have a major fire that would engulf the workshop and absolutely destroy what I guestimate to be well in excess of $2'000'000 worth of equipment, your Lambo, your Monster Truck, all your RC cars, Heli's, Radios, Stock, etc etc etc etc!!!??? It would literally incinerate your years and years of aquired hard earned wealth mate!!?? Seriousely Kev, you should have those Lipos stored outside in a weather proof container of some sort, well away from all your treasured toys and gear mate!!?? I love this channel, i've followed it almost from day 0, when you were just starting out, with that XMaxx, and it would be awful to see all your incredibly hard work go up in smoke because of a faulty Lipo Kev!!?? Wes, Liverpool UK.
His insurance policy would replace it all in a month or so ......don't think he would really care..... he'd just buy it all over again and get paid for it by RUclips
