#1 should have been a quality comfortable PFD that youll wear all the time. Yes its a necessity but so is a paddle. I agree with the points of both.
I keep my rope in a mesh bag and under a bungie so theres no risk of getting tangled. Loose ropes, or worse paddle leashes become nasty hazards and far too many have gotten tangled in them when they swim in current.
With the flags i do it regardless how far out the kayak is as I want people seeing them.
I have the doubleheader. Its nice but Sadly it extends over the side and gets in the way when I paddle as I use vertical strokes where my paddle rubs the side of the boat so it improves tracking (habit i learned when paddling my traverse on flat water)
I love double action pumps so each movement pumps water. They tend to be a little mrre expensive but are faster and you dont get tired when using them.
I have the wilderness systems cart. The yak attack cart looks amazing too. yes they are expensive but youll not have to worry about breaking them like cheaper carts. we used a guys cheap cart to haul boats 1 mile uphill. it broke early and we had to carry the sit on tops up the hill which sucked. Great advice of never using the carts to go through the scuppers.
Locking carabiners are a necessity. They are safe and wont let you get caught on them. I have my nalgene and other drink bottles fitted with them. I never have to worry about losing any gear because they are all connected to the boat.

Agreed on the paddle leash. I don't sell them because they turn into a hangmans noose.

I always carry a whistle regardless of the different laws. I have a plastic coaches whistle that will defininately get someone's attention. Buy all the paddle you can afford. Nothing like having that carbon fiber blade and shaft which can cut more than water. I see people paddling with those old Pelican paddles with the metal shaft and rounded blades and I will give them mine for a minute and they quickly realize why their arms are so tired. I enjoy your channel and plan to visit your store in the future.

Very true on the whistle. It's actually a requirement on some bodies of water. Hope to see you at the store sometime!
      Thanks for watching!

What kind is the paddle you use??

As a Contractor for over 30 years, I totally agree with your #2, The idiots will still plow through the flag into your lumber, ladder, load, Kayak, etc. But now you have a better shot at recovering damages, instead of paying damages. I always ensure I get a photo of the load flagged on take-off, and immediately during any incident.

    Excellent list!
I just got a vinyl tow flag. My original Hobie version was fraying and fading.
Love the Roto Grip double header! Especially with the ability to add another item!
As for carts, what's your take on the Boonedox Landing Gear? I had that on my Hobie PA 12, but then moved to a PA 14 and a trailer (both yet to be delivered). Plus I have the Dynamic Dolly which REALLY makes it easier to haul the Hobie.
I was glad to see I have some version of everything, including an NRS Chinook PFD with handy pockets.
    Keep up the great work!
    Roger, The Smiling BassHole

I have the Landing gear on my PA14. It's the best thing to move a Pro Angler around in my opinion.

@@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole I've used Hobies plug in cart and the Wildy Kart and the landing gear is best for me because it's better for one person to move in and out of a truck or trailer. Be careful how much you load it up though.

@@thebeardedpaddler Agree. I didn't want to have to tip my Hobie over so that's why I had the Boonedox. I was always happy when younger guys (I'm 70 and have a bad knee) offer to "help" haul my Hobie out of the water. I always accept!

Great video! Now how about a video on proper kayak attire? I mean the right hat, long sleeves or short sleeves in the summer, etc. I remember in the 70's how some Pro anglers were getting skin cancer on the top of their ears because the baseball caps offered no ear protection. Now they wear gaiters or whatever they are called to cover the neck, face and ears. What do you recommend for the summer. For the winter, wetsuit or drysuit?

    • @thebeardedpaddler
      @thebeardedpaddler  Год назад +1

I wear fishing shirts with UV protection. Some have the hoods and masks built into the shirt and are thin so they work well in high heat.

I bought a quest paddle at dicks sporting goods for $49 and was comparing it to my friends carbon fiber paddle for $190 and he feels like he got ripped off. Both are basically the same. His is slightly lighter. But not enough to justify the price. Neither paddle really bends either.

you didn't say what the tail flag was for, but I gather from context clues that it's for when you have the kayak loaded on a car? not applicable to me as I have a fold-up kayak which stores fine IN the car--also means that the rack system isn't applicable as I can't really install a rack system on my kayak--which also nullified a few other things on this list due them being a rack-mounted accessory

    • @thebeardedpaddler

Tow flag. For back of a truck. It's law in many states if the load goes over the tailgate a certain distance
