Born and raised in West Texas. I don’t plan on moving out of my state ever at this point, but I’m always a sucker for underdog stories. So to have an American city go through so much tough times as Detroit only to have it make such a comeback is truly inspiring. I wish it more prosperity in the future

Detroiters are definitely ready to welcome newcomers! My wife and I moved here from Los Angeles about 2 ½ years ago and we love this city, the culture, and the people! We had never even visited the city until we came out for a 3 week vacation and put in an offer on our home. Everything you covered in this video is spot-on; from the walkability of Downtown to the amazing food. This is a proud city and we're proud to now be part of the team!

As someone who lives in the area he's talking about, The Q-line & the people mover is a great way to move around here. If you live anywhere walking distance from Woodward, from Downtown (Jefferson) to New Center Area, you can get around easily & both are currently free to take. I also live in Atlanta ( from Detroit) and I LOVE living in my area. Very Safe too

Thanks for the video and positive outlook. Dan Gilbert, the Illitches and the Ford family have basically kept Detroit afloat and pumped adrenaline into.
It's still not near the population it could be and you can feel it walking down the street mid day or on a weekday evening. Particularly if you've ever lived in a big city.
That said, the job market is still not good, and it's nowhere even close to a tech based economy. Not even in the same universe. I hope that we can pull in another industry or two. It's only going to take one big company to settle in Detroit to signal to the rest of the country to start taking a serious look at Detroit.
By that point, all of the beautification of Detroit will pay off in spades.
Also, you didn't mention the Q Line for walkabilty.

    • @TRULIVINGMICHIGAN

The Ilitches are slumlords who have destroyed countless historic buildings for parking lots, violates agreements with the city for their tax breaks, and keep dozens of historic buildings in blighted condition.

I grew up in the suburbs and I have been in and around Detroit for over 50 years. I have worked in downtown Detroit for the last 6 and 1/2 years. You could not pay me enough to live in Detroit.
You might be able to pay me enough to rent a small apartment to stay down there during the week, just to avoid the commute.
The only reason to go into the city other than work is to see one of the sports teams play. Yes there are some decent restaurants where you can grab a nice meal when you have other reasons to be downtown, but they are not reason enough to travel there. There are many far nicer places in nearby suburbs.
The city has seen its best days and they will not be returning. All the promotion of Detroit is in support of making a buck at the real estate downtown. The neighborhoods between downtown and the suburbs are no-go zones for the most part. The schools suck and nobody in their right mind would live there by choice.
Michigan's a great place to live if you are politically liberal or can at least tolerate the liberal politics, but stay away from any big city other than Grand Rapids or Marquette (not that Marquette is a big city, but compared to what is nearby, it is the big city.)

If you are a multi-racial family, Detroit is not welcoming at all; nor is Highland Park and this is in 2003 to today.
    Nor Hamtramck.
    Let's be real!!!
Coming from Minnesota, what a culture shock; I was living in 2003, when I left Minnesota.
When I moved to Detroit I was living in 1950 going on 1960, not the 2000s.
Have you actually talked to people who work for Rocket Mortgage?
Those employees I've spoken to say it is the worst place in Michigan to work.
    Strange!
When I was offered a position with Blue Cross Blue Shield, all the positions offered were in Southfield!
Not working downtown Detroit, near my house in Highland Park.
Please, please, please do NOT move to Detroit unless you want to be living in the '50s, '60s and '70s.
Detroit is not a metropolitan city, but a town that lives in the past.
The only forgiving piece of Detroit, is black people who do not live in the past.
They live in the future and that is where we belong. The future!
70% of Detroit properties, belong to the Detroit Land Bank Authority.
So if you want a property, you better have good credit and a little bit of a down payment.
Sorry, but this guy does not give you all the load down and what you need to own a property in Detroit.
Oh gee, he doesn't want to ride the city transport!!!???!!! WHITE GUY!!
Yes, it's occasionally late, but I'm sorry what major city doesn't have transport bus problems?
If you're thinking of moving to Detroit? Please do not listen to this white guy, oh by the way, I'm white. Very blonde. Very light and my children are interracial and we moved from Minnesota to Detroit 20 years ago.
Well actually you moved to Highland Park, google Highland Park.
Google Detroit, before you move, back in 2000, of course there wasn't Google to find out.
    Best of luck!

No thanks. Your chance of encountering a violent crime in Detroit is 1 in 15 and has one of thee highest rates of crime in the US. I live in NW Ohio and there are TONS of people who drive from Detroit to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for jobs daily. Most those automotive jobs are moving overseas. In fact, my supervisor at the VA just moved back to Fort Wayne from Detroit because of the violent crime. Got his license plate stolen at the gym, then got his car stolen after hitting a giant pothole and bottoming out his car. Dan Gilbert is a bit of a crook and his Quicken Loan company was charged with fraud. You can about guarantee that if they have that sort of money that they grifted their way to the top by crime. Look at Donald Trump.... he's another one. Also, didn't you guys have psychopaths trying to abduct your governor? That definitely makes people want to move there. Detroit hasn't been much since the days they used to shoot movies there like Robocop, etc.

Ft. Wayne, Indiana? Talk about a deserted dump. That and the fact that it is surrounded by the rest of Indiana speaks volumes. That thriving metropolis is like three and a half hours from Detroit... Please provide evidence substantiating your assertion that "TONS" of people commute there from Detroit? Put some cool towels on that fever dream. Cleveland is closer and if you add another 45 minutes on to the drive, you are in Chicago or Pittsburgh even. Ft. Wayne is a nothing burger surrounded by a bunch of corn fields. Indiana is full of Mike Pence clones and folks who are a better fit with the northern Kentucky crowd. Having a license plate stolen.....? Wow, that guy is going to need therapy for years. Yeah there is crime, just as there is in Memphis, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Jackson, Birmingham, etc. You know, all of those tourist meccas in your red State utopias. The majority of illegal guns confiscated in Detroit, just as in New York, D.C., Chicago, etc come from Georgia, MIssissippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas. If you hillbilly cowboys stop transporting weapons to these places (which you then turn around and criticize for being violent), life in those cities would be much calmer and exponentially safer. You probably haven't been to Detroit, at least not in this century and you likely get your 'information' from Ingraham, Hannity, Judge Drunk and the rest of the clown show on that channel (FOX) which just paid $787 million dollars to settle a defamation lawsuit for lying to you again and again and again. They hate anyplace which contains a lot of folks who don't look like them (which you probably completely understand).
