The animated series is also recommended if you haven’t seen it. Just recently it came back and it’s great, but the original run in the 90’s is pretty much a must watch for any X-Men fan
As someone about the same age and from a similar area so with similar generational and cultural touch points my questions are: WHAT? How? Why? 😂 X 1-2, Spiderman 1-2 and the Batman movies were and still are my gold standard of superhero movies, that nostalgia is unshakeable On a more serious but super side tangent note: as someone who likewise prescribes to the concept of health is wealth and has even dabbled in the not-so-heathly world of bodybuilding, your comment on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine then vs now is interesting and to me speaks volumes as an example of how unrealistic the standards of beauty have become with these films almost acting like an exemplary time lapse As always, thanks for the great content!
I didn't know you did movie reviews I was only subscribed to your gaming channel I watch a lot more movie stuff so I'll probably watch all of these videos
I've been enjoying these retro videos, even if I might have seen every single one of them myself. A good way to go, "aaah yeah THAT movie I remember it... and wow I didn't remember it had that!" Great to hear your reactions.
Despite having a pretty goofy plot by today's standards and the standards of its sequels, this film still holds up. Like Blade before it, this was a major shot in the arm people needed to take comic book films seriously again, and in terms of execution, dialogue, effects, pacing, setpieces, music and acting, it's brilliant. I particularly like the Wolverine vs. Mystique fight, with the latter initially copying the former down to abilities before her fake claws are slashed off, leading to a strength-vs.-agility style showdown.
X men become one of my favorite super heroes after spider man when I watched the first X men film I thought that it aged very well. X2, the wolverine, X men days of future past and Logan are my favorite films
Glad to see you covering these films, they were a big part of my life growing up and a big part of why I love X-Men. David Hayter actually wrote the screenplay for the first two films and he even played the officer that finds Mystique's body at the end of the first one. Super excited to see what you think of X2.
Loved watching this, hearing you and your complete thoughts without any community questions or anyone elses impressions. You should mix these types of vids with the others to mix it up literally. Thank you retro rewind
Matty exposes himself everytime he puts “for the first time “ I swear it explains a lot about his tastes and why he’s so into the outlier things it’s because he’s been a contrarian all along Jokes btw
Having seen this movie more times than I can count, I still love it to pieces. It's not my favorite in the series (that's a tie between X2 and DoFP), but it basically defined what I look for in a superhero movie to this day: compelling performances, a memorable score, narrative scope and stakes, cool action and interesting character dynamics. Sure, the movie could've used an extra 10-15 minutes to do more on that last item, but I don't think anything that we get in the movie is bad, just slightly undercooked. Also, while I appreciate Halle Berry trying it, I admittedly don't mind that she dropped the accent after this movie. Can't wait to see your thoughts on X2!
You mention that this is the first time a lot of people experienced the X-Men, and while that was true for film you’re forgetting a key thing: a lot of kids who saw this movie when it came out were fresh from having watched the X-Men cartoon first. I think a lot of people think of *that* as the true first X-Men before this series. Patrick Stewart is iconic, but I think there’s a good amount of people who hear the Voice Actor from X-Men and not of him, when they think of Professor X. I mean, the musical sting everybody associates with the group is from that cartoon.
I’ve been feeling a rewatch of the x-men movies. I missed a couple, and I’ve been wanting to watch the sick nightcrawler scene, and Brian Cox as Stryker in X2
I always remember when they injected a guard with Liquid Metal so that magneto would be able to rip it out of him and escape jail. That was siiiiick back in the day
When you say that not having knowledge really doesn't do much, I feel like its the opposite. I think having too much knowledge about these characters and stories would make something like this more meh than woooow. Cause I saw this when it came out. I had no prior knowledge. I was in my late teens and I thought it was phenomenal. I still do.
This is one of those cases where they get every single character wrong but its obvious they banned all comics or comic lore on set because the movie makers hated the comics.
Hey matty when you eventually get to "The Wolverine 2013" try to be sure to watch the unrated Unleashed extended cut it's about 12 minutes longer and a whole lot bloodier, the rouge cut of "days of future past" is also great🤘
The X-men franchise is the most inconsistent franchise in my opinion. They have almost equally great movies and bad movies throughout its entire run. In my opinion, out of the 10 X-men films (I consider the Deadpool movies as it’s own thing despite Its relation), I think 5 of the movies are truly great: X-men, X2, X-men First Class, X-men Days of Future Past, Logan
Re watched this movie not to long ago. While I like the second one more. This one was a good re watch. The ending still sticks with me. "The war is still coming, Charles, and I intend to fight it. By any means necessary."And I will always be there, old friend."
Different series of videos. Jurassic Park was part of Call Sheet where he ranks movies from the IMDb top 250 and discussed it with lock. It's pretty much a mini podcast. This is not that.
Favorite line: "Hey it's me!" "Prove it." "You're a dick." "...ok."
RIP Michael Kamen
He made Logan and Rogue's moment feel so special and timeless
His score for X-Men is his swansong, and what a note to end on.
Even not seeing this movie before, never even seeing Ian McKellan as Magneto is wild

I remember watching the x-men movies, but I couldn't understand the timeline
Well it's arguably the movie franchise with the most continuity errors and inconsistencies from one movie to the next.
I just enjoy the X-Men movies and the evil dead movies in the same way loose continuity
I know this channel is mainly about you seeing stuff you never have, but man.. you shock me each time. I’ve seen this 1k times 😂
Now we’re talking. I just started rewatching these movies
The themes in X-Men are timeless
Despite having a pretty goofy plot by today's standards and the standards of its sequels, this film still holds up. Bro how are you just watching this now? Like what did you watch growing up😂
😂 bro Ikr a lot of these movies
He’s already said he was always so focused on games he never had as much time for movies. Which I agree. I didn’t watch the x men movies until 2016/17
@@apretrogaming1041 that’s just mind blowing. To focus on games 24/7
I mean I played video games as well but I did watch movies.
I’ve only seen days of future past & none of the others 😂
People just miss stuff init
Only saw LOTR & Harry Potter for the first time a few months ago
X men become one of my favorite super heroes after spider man when I watched the first X men film I thought that it aged very well. X2, the wolverine, X men days of future past and Logan are my favorite films

Did you know this was the FIRST Hollywood marvel movie. This is the first MCU film.
Blade was the first.

I love the X-Men movies
Will you ever review nostalgic cartoon series?
When we getting the real X-Men video?
You watching the animated series!
That was siiiiick back in the day
That’s in the second movie
Do the others too nightcrawler is my fav superhero in xmen
Just wait until you get to X-Men Days of Future Past and Logan
Good review

Did you seriously just spoil elements of a movie that has not been released yet? I’ve avoided every trailer until now. Not cool!
You need to watch X-men 97 Matty!
This is one of those cases where they get every single character wrong but its obvious they banned all comics or comic lore on set because the movie makers hated the comics.

Back when less was better
Now that Disney got the X-Men, everything will be overblown with CGI and memes

You love Mystique for the plot huh?
Dude Matty, have you ever seen a movie in your life?
Hugh Jackman is the greatest superhero casting choice ever made.
Let's debate:
Funny, you spelt Christopher Reeve wrong.
Re watched this movie not to long ago. While I like the second one more. This one was a good re watch. The ending still sticks with me. "The war is still coming, Charles, and I intend to fight it. By any means necessary."And I will always be there, old friend."
wait until you see days of future past, your going to love it matty
