What I usually do with soft pallets like that is throw a empty wood pallet on top to help spread the force of the strap.

Under New Zealand Load Restraint Legislation. that is an insecure load. The top pallet can be crushed, letting the load loose. The forklift op would be in trouble(legal chain of responsibility) for not letting you strap the bottom pallets down THEN strap down the top layer.

As a HGV Driver I wouldn’t entrust Forkies to load a toaster never mind my wagon…….You shove on a High vis, a hard hat and you watch these muppets because at the end of the day they don’t care and it’s the Driver of the Wagon responsibility once that load is on the back.
No point in grumping afterwards………Act accordingly. 🚛🚛🚛

That's why I don't pull flatbeds or courtinsiders any more. Vans and fridges baby, you put two straps at the back and it's fine. At the last job I had courtisiders I refused three trailers in three days and they sent me home. I told them that they did me a favor. I was at flat rate at that job, no matter how many hours you worked you got the same money. I was the only driver tried to secure the load. I found another job with vans and better money and I am there the last 6 years. Happy days.

Could you not throw a strap through the bottom pallet and then over the top? Securing the top pallet to the bottom pallet; Bottom pallets strapped to the deck? I'm a new pass and had *ZERO* training for securing the load. Just a bunch of theory questions about it. If I walked into a job like that and had to figure out how to secure that load on my own I'd be shitting myself. Common sense is telling me I'd probably tell them to take the boxes off the top so I can secure the bottom pallets first before I left that yard, but I'm not there actually doing it.

    • @Anonymous-Kev
      @Anonymous-Kev  День назад +1

Basically 9 times out of 10 you can get out of your vehicle in a yard and strap up your load and secure to the deck and then they can put lighter items on top afterwards, but BMI have a stupid rule where you cant leave on site where forklifts are operating, I tryed to put my strap on the pole I had but it wouldn't go through, I knew I had an option for the front 4 pallets but what I'll do first before I do it is tell them am going to throw a strap over them but I am going to damage the polystyrene side protectors for the items to get to the harder material inside the reaction was basic "I don't care, every other driver does it" so I want back to my truck and strap it to get enough tight on the load that I was happy 😀 and I was so I thought let's goo..
But yeah I tryed to help them but when someone asks that mind set of no caring it just make not care too
But if I couldn't of got it to tighten up then I would rejected load and rang it in 🙂
But yeah I tryed a few options first and nothing worked but to do it the way I did it on video.. 👍
And even if you are going on long journeys always stop off at a services open the curtain or whatever you've got and just pull on the strap to see if it's tight If not give it a couple of more clicks because it does loosen on travel as your hitting bumps and stuff..
      Hope it helped 👍

    Kev:
Definitely had bad weekend and week. Didn't help that the east coast of the states had hurricane with severe t-storms went from the south to north. Yesterday's vid when you mentioned what are the flag things, those are actually semaphore signals. Frist introduced in the 1840s by Charles Hutton Gregory on the London and Croydon Railway. These signals quickly became the standard for railway signaling in Britain and were widely adopted by the mid-19th century. Present days are being phased out for more modern ones. The signal contains a pivot arm and a spectacle holding the contact lenses. The arm's position indicates different signals and the lenses provide visual indications at night. Arm rises indicate clear. Arm lowers indicates stop or slow, depends. I won't go further for you won't understand and it's too much to write here. Lastly, DEFINITELY need more humor sprinkled throughout. The one on the trees had me rolling for 5 mins straight. NEEDED THAT!!! Thx for that. Rewatched three times. It was that good!!!

So because because didn't complete the delivery and it went back to our yard, I left all my straps on and took some extra straps, It's up to the next driver to check if all is still tight and not strapped incorrectly I've done my part by getting it safely to its point, straps do loosen up all the time so it's always better just to give it an extra click every so often, The main point of this video was just to show the forklift driver wasn't being helpful by just placing anything anywhere I came up to him and said I am going to be strapping this and my only solution is to strap it over the polystyrene and he just shook his shoulders in another way of saying I don't care, and they don't let you get out on the site where you're being loaded so you can't check. The only BMI site that I actually don't mind is the one in Coventry all the others just have the attitude of don't care.

The product inside was hard I think it was roofing material it was just the sides that was packaged in polystyrene which once I got enough tight it gripped onto the product inside yes I damaged the polystyrene but after I mentioned it on the weight bridge they seemed to just not care! @Anonymous-Kev  28 дней назад

@@andym2679 it was just how you described it meaning I'm trying to do it for content, I do apologise if that's not what you meant, internal straps can't be used on items that are half a ton you need to use ratchet straps The items in the polystyrene was still at a heavy weight because they were roofing materials, The polystyrene was just to protect the sides, and as I did mention it to them on the weighbridge that I'll have to put force down on the polystyrene to grip it, as I need to hold down the items underneath the polystyrene, There attitude was just I don't care.
On my previous videos I've been to many other BMI sites and my experience with them just all the same, apart from the country BMI this one is fine.
But as a forklift driver myself for 10 years before doing HGV, you are supposed to help by placing the items on the back in the correct place and also tell the driver that what you're doing before just doing it and sending them on the way meaning get them out let them strap up before placing more items on top, common courtesy considering the driver is not allowed out the cab, so I can't see what's going on 👍
