What a place I will never forget the first night I went, the heat, the sweat, the condensation dripping on us,the dancers, the music and of course those toilets yuk what a fantastic venue it will never be replaced ,ktf
Sadly I never went, I spent the 70s at the Adam & Eve in Blackpool which was also iconic in its own way. What strikes me about Wigan Casino is how many men danced which is so great to see.. amazing footwork!
This was the best time of my life from 1976 we had a Ford Cortina we had 6 people in the car it was good times i was going to be in trouble when I got home but it still didn't stop me going the kids today would love it and in all the time not one time I had got into a fight with anyone just the BEST
@elaineian sorry to be pedantic - Wigan was a "disco"/dancehall for many years before it became an all-nighter. Oh and by the way, it actually opened as an allnighter on Sept 23 1973 NOT 1972
Happy times, the lads and lasses were there from the Toon that night. It was never the same after they made this film.... All the nerds started to turn up! Kevlugs says KTF!
Any one who went here was so lucky ❤ i was 10 when it closed i feel the vibe even now kinda 🎉🎉 pfunks legs .rip to him 😢 brilliant im glad there's a plaque up to remember wigan casino x look how times have changed now 😢😢
Northern soul & Motown mad. 1965-2019 now love it. Dance to soul-sleep-eat-chips &mushy peas. Queue dance_drink-dance-sleep on floor-drink-dance 8tilllate-in my heart
by the time the cameras went into the casino most of the brilliant dancers had moved on, it was getting too commercialised . if you think this lot is good then you should have seen how the 1st couple of years were . after the casino go into the beachcomber, pure brilliance , for those of us lucky enough to witness the early years, we saw amazing dancers, not taking anything away from the ones in the clip, they're good, just voicing a few very happy memories of how i remember it , ktf , C A L .
Dale Pender From Edinburgh was the best Spinner i ever seen, So much so, his Nick Name was given to him as the Edinburgh Spinner. Great wee Dancer. Dale miss you Loads Matey. Until we are all dancing together Again R.I.P Peace Out
no chemist was safe when the all-nighter scene started,my oldest brother used to go the twisted wheel and black cat clubs in manchester two name just two,the torch was next big club and then the daddy of them all, wigan,i first went march 74 with some of the guys from st.helens, brilliant place, lot of people chewing though, was someone selling wrigleys or beech nut outside ?,ha,ha ha,or was it something else.,ktf guys.rip bootlace from stoke.

I thought it was just us that had stoney faces that night(we didn't go down the saturday previously because of the divs going who wanted to be in the programme) and lo and behold they were filming at the Oldies, check out everyone standing about-not gruntled! If I remember correctly, Mike Walker threatened to turn the tunes off if everyone didn't stop slow clapping because of the lights, they were finally turned off at 4am to much cheering!! Oh happy days-well nites actually!! Keep The Faith!

Magic. That lad in the p-funk t-shirt near the end couldn't half shift. Dig that double heel flick at 8.28! I know it's speeded up film footage but not by much and he's still quicker than the human eye. Grand memories. KFT.
The Lafayette-The Octopus--remember Ruby Red Records? buying the northern soul imports,Karmen Ghia's,solatios, penny round shirts, ahh happy days still keepin the faith!
AKA "TORCHIE" What is the name of the instro that is 5.15 into this vid, I have not heard it for ages and it brings back sweet memories. Please help. Keep the faith.
The bit at the beginning with everyone queuing is definitely the casino some of the other shots are not in the casino. If you ever went you will know this. Its the wigan casino film added onto some original footage.
@twister5960 Funny you say that - I did likewise and spent the entire night hiding in a corner away from the cameras and bright lights (which were cracking me up!) I remember thinking that I didn't recognise many of the people dancing and those I did know were just sitting or standing at the edge of the dancefloor totally bemused by it all. Sad that this is one of the only remaining films of the Casino. But in truth it was the worst night I ever had there and I never went back again.
@judystreet aye thats right kev obrien what a mint lad fuckin had loadsa good chat wityh him at wigan and morcambe pier proper soulie that l;ad was ktf
