Playing devil's advocate: How does the state/county/city know if you used a commercial kitchen to package your sauce? Let's say you only want to package 12 bottles of hot sauce. How will the "law" know if you did it at home versus a commercial kitchen? Secondly, say you do pay for a commercial kitchen, how does the law know you were inside in the commercial kitchen? I'm curious on this.
Great question and honestly it boils down to 1 simple aspect ....liability ...say someone gets sick or for some reason they need to find out why this person ate your product and was hospitalized? Trace ability every food product must have on the label an address of production you run a huge risk of liability ( that can lead to legal issues) an if found that the item was made at home ...I would not want to be on the side of trying to explain that one.... being incorporated and following the laws you protect yourself. Damian ...GREAT QUESTION THOUGH
Hello,I have a small smoked meats biz I smoke all my meats
I found it was cheaper to set up a prep kitchen off my house. I got the codes from my state and went from there.
Hey Sam thats great yes in some states using your ow property but having a Seperate kitchen is a great way to start a food business with less overhead
Sam, how did you go about setting up a separate prep kitchen? I’m curious what was required for that? Thank you

@@MarketingFoodOnline great...am calling all commercial food kitchens in my area starting Monday morning ..
Hello. Thank you very kindly for your videos. They are very informative. I am trying to start a sauce and spice's business in Dallas Tx. I know per my cottage kitchen rules I cannot sell online. Trying to sell on Amazon for traffic so can I use a commercial kitchen please? Also do I need to put the address of the kitchen on the label? Kindly advise. Thank you.
Is liability insurance the same as getting a LLC?
Do you put nutritional facts on all your products?
Thank you for your information
Great info

What would be the best and proper way to set up a salsa business?
Great channel. I’m 22 and looking to help my grandma’s business by producing and selling more fudge. Could you do a video on what website host you prefer for selling online? Right now I’m making a website on Wix.
Hey BEN !!
Thanks for the info... I work with Weebly, and Shopify I have 6 sites online and found these have worked well for what we do. I personally have not worked with WIX but have heard A LOT about it! I have several videos lined up for weebly and shopify tutorials....I would also incorporate selling on ebay etsy and amazon due to the traffic it can bring you .
Hi I’m Maida and I’m looking to open up my own Empanad business and realized in FL you cannot cook that grade of food from “cottage”.. so if I rent some time to use at a commercial kitchen, how can I sell my product? What are the regulations in selling the hot food? What will I require. I’m really confused and lost on what’s the next step after getting liability insurance and renting a facility. Thank you!
Do you happen to have any recommendations for a liability insurance I could get for a product I'd like to produce? I'm just researching now, but this is probably the thing that daunts me the most. I have a friend in another state that recommended a company she uses, but they do not service NY state, which is where I am.
Hey Shauna
Yes check out the site FLIPROGRAM .com they write insurance coverage for food businesses
@@MarketingFoodOnline Awesome, thanks!!!
Do commercial kitchens also freeze dry food?
Can I buy some commercial equipment for my home and do it that way?
Hello QC thanks for asking when it comes to home equipment most cottage food laws prohibit commercial items only due to the sizes and the electrical outlets do not handle the larger items.
Do I have to do mine in a commercial kitchen as well if I'm doing a season line?
Hello, thanks for watching and asking ... this would depend if you do it from home check with the states cottage food laws and see if seasoning is allowed. Most states allow this because seasoning is not potentially hazarded food products.
@@MarketingFoodOnline thank you!
Okay so I just read my cottage food laws (Texas) it states that dry season and herbs is allowed. But I can't sale/ship it online? Is the only way to legally go around that is to do a commercial kitchen or co packer?
Donde Queda?
hola depende de donde vives, pero hay cocinas comerciales de todo
Can you sell online from a commercial kitchen? Thanks.
Hey Guy
Thanks for asking are you selling locally or online ? and to retailers?
Marketing Food Online I’m selling online and to retailers if possible. It’s not clear to me the easiest way to get past being a cottage food to selling online.
OK got it ....When it comes to cottage food businesses many states ( almost all) don't allow selling online it has to be delivered in person. What state are in ? I can pull that states info and let you know. Traditionally if you use a commercial kitchen and "produce" the item there ...your technically not a cottage food business, but let me know and I will get back to you ..damian
@ guy austen - this was exactly my question, thanks
@marketing food online - So let me throw out a scenario. To sell something like "powdered garlic" online in California, I cannot be a cottage kitchen? I would need a commercial kitchen? I'm not a fan of selling stuff at farmers markets and local events. I would rather do 99.9% of my business online.
Can I do uber eats out of a commercial kitchen?
GREAT question I will make a video for this !!! thanks
@@MarketingFoodOnline pls do thx 😊
I hope so It's Ajdb.
