      Where do you get your gel packs from? Amazon seems pretty pricey...def not 25 cents per ice pack.

    Use 12 x12x8 box
    Use butter cream icing
    Use either 6 or 9 ROUND cakes
    Freeze cake with icing on it
    Shrink wrap cake
    Line box with bubble wrap
    Use 4 gel packs on sides of cake
    Use newspaper to fill empty space
    Seal box with tape
    Ship

    So happy I found your videos! I had a home based cake and cookie business in Michigan, but recently moved to TN. A lot of my clients were asking if I would ship orders. I was preparing to spend way too much money shipping to friends all over the US for testing packing options. You've definitely saved me from doing this lol Thank you for posting such straight forward and informative videos! I subscribed to your channel after watching the first one!

    i am so glad i found this video. i need to ship a hummingbird cake (a truly southern delight!) to a lifelong friend who happens to be a connecticut yankee - she's never had it. i did a bit of searching for how to ship a cake, and had just spent a ton of money on shipping supplies from amazon. (ok, i think i ordered enough cake containers and ice pack stuff to ship about 10 cakes, so i'll have more for later. but most importantly i will be able to ship to my dear friend. your video helped me to solve the ups/usps dilemma. my shipping supplies from the smiling box store should arrive by friday, i can make my cake and freeze it on friday, and on monday i will be at the post office bright(ish) and early to ship my southern delight up to connecticut. thank you for a great tutorial.

    Sadly the Ice Brix I bought did not do their job and melted less than 24 hrs later. And sadly wrapping the cake in plastic wrap doesn't work well when there's a intricate icing transfer on the top, so I only recommend solid colors unless it is cool climate where you are and where you are delivering it. Thank you for the advice though, it gave me ideas for my next experiment.

    • @MarketingFoodOnline
      @MarketingFoodOnline  5 лет назад +2

      Hello thanks for asking ... this is trricky due to the freezer and the TYPE of topping or caramel you use. When I have frozen carmale and chocolate for example the temp. has a big impact on the quality of the carmale or chocolate it leaves a white foggy film when you take them out of the freezer. Frosting can do the same but will depend on the type it is. You might need to expereiment and see if the film appears on your topping.

      Thanks for asking and watching ....do you operate from home as a cottage food business? or from a commercial kitchen? then I could better answer the shipping of cream cheese. It is very "challenging" shipping frozen and temp sensitive protects. Due to the minimum temps that the product must maintain in transit.

    Will standard Plastic Wrap work, or do I need to use commercial grade shrink wrap? I don't have a shrink wrap machine. I'm just sending a homemade birthday cake to my daughter who's away at college. Any thoughts?

      Hey mark
      The only thing about plastic wrap it is not secured to the cake so the cake WILL move. Making sure it is frozen sold and shipped immediatly would be best cahnce for a safe arrival.

      @@MarketingFoodOnline Good to know. Do I need to have a Shrink Wrap Machine? Or can I just buy some shrink wrap and wrap it around the cake? Does it need to be a specific type of shrink wrap, or will any type work? I need to send my daughter's homemade cake down to her college tomorrow, so all your help and advice it is much appreciated. Thank you!

      Hey Dawn
      Thanks for watching and asking! I personally have always had great success with shrink because of how it secures the product in transit.. is there something like it ? not that I have found to be as effective. Damian

      @@MarketingFoodOnline would using cling wrap do just as well ? I have a few friends that wanted a rum eggnog bunt cake sent ?

      Hey Dawn
      The thing with cling wrap is unlike the heat sealed wrap it will not secure the product like heat sealing does and will come apart...causing the item to move in transit

    Hi,you think i can ship a tart with quince or dulce de leche on top?.

    • @samaraisnt
      @samaraisnt 5 лет назад

      sounds too soft, but i'm no expert. Definitely would omit the DDL top though, they can add that for $1 and it would be fresh and not run all over their box. Just my opinion but you might be able to freeze a tart/quince, depending on the recipe. Though not sure how well eggs freeze...I would guess this is not a good thing to freeze, though he does have a video on shipping pies coming up, so look out for that. He may provide more info. thanks so much for sharing... just curious why not use dry ice? Is it more expenses or just more cumbersome?

    • @MarketingFoodOnline
      @MarketingFoodOnline  5 лет назад +2

      I personally use ice packs (in different sizes) never dry ice. VERY dangerous for customers to touch if they are not familiar with it and more expensive than ice packs .

    what about a red velvet with cream cheese buttercream?

    • @MarketingFoodOnline
      @MarketingFoodOnline  5 лет назад +2

      This could be a bit tricky when it is Summertime due to the cream cheese temps have to be maintained through transit. I would stick to ingredients without the possibility of spoiling.
