- In this video, I show you how I draw a realistic tabby cat in charcoal step by step. I show you how to apply the layers and details with white and black charcoal pencils and blending with stump and also cross hatching technique for rendering the blanket. I hope this tutorial is helpful to you. I am using general's charcoal pencils on ClaireFontaine Paint on mixed media paper in Gris colour and it is A3 size.
I did record this footage on another device to experiment but I don't think it is as good as from the usual phone so i will switch back for further videos so i apologise if the lesser quality is noticeable to you.

i'm just seeing this. i had my own projects to work on for christmas. i barely made my "deadline", and i was mentally spent by the time i finished. thank you for another fantastic video!! my most comfortable place is mechanical pencil (i have no training, it is just something i began to do). so, for me, working with just darks and lights (no color) is my "happy place". i have never worked in charcoal. perhaps i should try this!!
i joined (or i thought i joined) your newsletter after your previous video. have you released anything on the newsletter since then? i only ask bcz i want to be sure that i actually did join it. i completely understand if you were (like me) overwhelmed by the work to be done for christmas. me, of course, they were just gifts. i have never sold any artwork. maybe some day....
your skills blow my mind. thanks again!!
Hi...I have made two updates on the newsletter so far. I'll get onto another update in the new year I guess. I don't really do the new year thing....it's just a continuation of time. The last few years been overall full of doom and gloom anyway so no real improvement and things just not been going right for me at all of late and can't see all that suddenly stopping after 23:59 tonight.
@@TmHudsonArt that is a very good point! there is only a one second difference between 2022 and 2023. imagine places with calendars that differ from our own. even the "second" in question is a moving thing by time zone. and nothing "transforms" between the one second and the next, does it?
i have no idea what the last few years have held for you. but maybe look on the brighter side: you are an extremely talented artist/photographer and you have the ability to sell your art. you have people who WANT your art. any way, i just wanted to throw that out there. i, for one, greatly appreciate what you show me: it both educates and inspires me.
Just amazing! What brand & type of charcoal pencils do you use?
General's charcoal pencils..
