I worked for a chain restaurant, and our district manager (who had started as a dishwasher when he was 14) would still work in the restaurants a few days per month, 4- hour shifts. It was not only to keep in touch with the workers, and how the restaurants were actually functioning, but it was because he LIKED it. And he did the HARD work when he was there. He had massive respect from the employees. Unfortunately, as "only" a district manager, he couldn't do anything about strange corporate decisions, made by men in suits who rarely even ate in the restaurants.

But they only do this for the sake of the TV show, and totally ignore the likely thousands of their employees who are in the exact same position.
They see that people are struggling with the low income, giving one person 5k extra once doesn‘t solve any problems on the greater scale. If they truly cared they would adjust their wages, not just give one person a relatively small amount of money

Told to stay in their lane which means as a dish washer, they got no chance to learn a menu until the cooks sick and then you have one hour to become familiar with someone elses recipes. Then they get seen that they can't do it and are never given the chance again.
Only way to get a promotion is through nepotism. In Fogo De Chao, I was promoted first day from Dish Washer to Line cook. I had the time to learn everything as my main job was make palenta and fried bananas. Over 3 months I saw everything done. But when I was younger and didn't know anyone at the job, I was stuck as a dishwasher...even if that company went out of business because it couldn't keep dinner cooks, they should have trained.....

I'm glad I watched this clip. I was so touched by Joe.
The owner now sees how hard it is to multitask, and Joe showed him how it's done in a humble, curious, professional way.
White Castle should be honored to have Joe working for them! He deserves a lot more than $5K.
He should have his own Franchise! Any business would be honored to have someone like Joe working for them.
I wish the best for Joe and his family, God Bless. XO
