An absolute GEM of American history!! What a shame Disneyland isn't like this today.. would have been nice to see it preserved in all it's original glory.

I just watched the house of the future with everything being plastic. Interesting when the real future is realizing how bad plastic is for the earth. Love these videos about the beginning of Disneyland. I'm glad they exist. And I'm glad I grew up in Los Angeles with Disneyland in our backyard. How time flies. I just turned 60!

I believe the home of the future was created by Monsanto. I think they also had a model for the 1964/65 New York World's Fair at which the Chrysler Corp. featured the jet powered car that one could experience a ride on a small track outside of their pavilion (I was lucky enough to get a ride in it (a 1964 high school jr.)).
    Now THAT was "cool"!

Both Steve Jobs & Bill Gates were born the same year that Disneyland first opened: 1955. It was also the same year that Albert Einstein passed away.

I hate to be a nit-pick but the actual opening day is something everyone gets wrong. It's even misrepresented by the company at times. The opening ceremonies on July 17th was a television event and was by invitation only. Unfortunately someone got a hold of the invitation only tickets and counterfeited them. The first day of public operations was July 18th, 1955. Unfortunately, Fantasyland was closed that day due to a gas leak and the restaurants ran out of food.

That was so long ago I'm pretty sure no one cares which day it was originally... it's never gonna be the same park as Mr Disney envisioned it. Today, it's an overblown madhouse of noise and filth.

23:42 ....I guess we won't be seeing THIS feature of the old Disneyland again, will we? Armed guards lowering the flag before nightfall; guests on Main Street actually doffing their hats (some placing them on their hearts), standing at attention.
...I know, I know, it was a different country.

?!? ....What do you mean? There's a whole corporate division and trademark dedicated to pancake products called "Aunt Jemima", owned by Quaker Oats (a subsidiary of PepsiCo), worth how many billions of dollars today? People still seek out their product -- emblazoned with the logo image of Aunt Jemima, that dusky gal in her headscarf.

A plastic home in California? Not today. It would have to be made of paper, just like the straws at Disneyland.
