I totally agree with you. There's a Chinese proverb that's translated as such : enter a house greet the owner, enter a temple offer a prayer. That's called respect.
well said!
Di mana bumi dipijak. Di situ langit dijunjung. ❤❤❤
Terima kasih Mark kerana hadam sensitiviti agama nilai budaya dan adat resam masyarakat Malaysia dan syabas saya ucapkan kerana kamu tidak seperti segelintir orang putih yang gila.❤️🇲🇾
Tapi kenapa orang disana ketika mereka ciuman penonton pada senang ? Apakah sebagian besar bukan orang malay?
@@xianyingxga pada senang juga sbnrnya.. cuman di m'sia ini ga ada yg klo ga senang, langsung bentrokan atau hal² seumpamanya yg ga jelas..

They're invited to sing, not to preach others on LGBTQ... or personal sexuality/private life. If you're gay or even straight, just keep it to yourself and your spouse. RESPECT OTHERS!!
Yep
They plead to perform not invited
@thegreatest4986 does not matter, legal law suits are coming from vendors , sponsors, performers that were affected.
100%
For a group that hasn't been respected by law and by a political majority, is it any surprise they don't respect the majority back?
Came all the way from threPhilippines to watch the Good Vibes Festival, and I couldn't agree more with what you said! Respect everyone's religion, laws, and beliefs!
Thks for coming all the way.
thank you for coming here. Sorry that 1975 had to ruin your time here
Thank you mark.. you are right.. lakum diinukum wali yadiin.. heaven or hell is your choice.. but to come into somebody's house and start dictating and condemning the owner.. that's purely unspeakably rude and not knowing your place.. get out! It is budaya kuning anyway.. no room for it here. Islam is our religion.. stated in our constitiution.. let this be a lesson to all visitors..
respect dear Malaysian brothers and sisters, greetings from Indonesia
Most Malaysians are upset, not just Muslims. 1975 has been offensive to all of us, such arrogance and immaturity.
Thank you Mark. Really appreciate this. You respect our religion and beliefs. Thank you so muchhh that this coming from you..❤
@@markodea interesting to hear your opinion Mark, especially with you living in Malaysia and being a fan or ex-fan of the 1975. I'd be gutted if I was at the festival and I don't know enough to comment on what affect it will have on Malaysians in the lgbtqia+ community. I do think that the organisers of the festival should have done their own research more thoroughly on the band though. You don't have to look too far to see that The 1975 have already been banned in Dubai for speaking out on this exact subject and that Matt Healy is clearly speaking out often and openly on stage. Did they really find it such a shock or were they maybe expecting some sort of political statement and if so, what was the agenda 🤷♂️ I think Matt Healy is going through some difficult times in general right now. He has been slammed by the western media and social media for the past 4 months and think he is being directed off a cliff edge personally. I think he's furious with the world and unfortunately, Malaysia was his tipping point and I'm sorry you guys had to witness it. Being young in the city, believe and say something! 😉
Thank you for voicing your opinions.
YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!
Now 1975 had added salt to big wounds ...OUCH!!
So close to 6 States' Election whereby the Extremists & Oppositions.
Matt Healy is an EGOISTIC & NARCISSISTIC Person.
Why can't he just be just a musician to his fans and not mix politics or criticise any govt & other religion?
If he disliked so much of the laws of Malaysia..,WHY did he agree to come to Malaysia ?
Just to prove his point, he doesn't care what happens to his fans or fans of musicor for other musicians & bands who want to perform in Malaysia for their fans.
To Matt Healy, Whatever happened, he will still be paid.
Sadly, because of his SELFISH Actions , Good Vibes got cancelled..
&
Kid Laroi had to perform inside a hotel lobby..
#SHOUT OUT for The Kid Laroi
COLDPLAY almost got cancelled..
Many fans were hoping to get 2 days from Coldplay because tickets were sold out within hrs.
COLDPLAY will be performing in Singapore for 6 DAYS !!! in Jan 2024.
Musicians had gone through tough times like all for almost 2 yrs of pandemic.
That is why they are going round the world to perform to their fans.
1975 should APOLOGISE TO THE FANS & PAY for it.
Matt Healy's DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR DRUNK, PROBABLY ON DRUGS too "perform" on stage...as a political critic. SO UNPROFESSIONAL.
WHAT KIND OF MORON WOULD GO TO SOMEONE'S HOME & CRITICISE THEIR HOUSE RULES?
Ask Singapore Govt WHY BAN CHEWING GUM, ?
yeah well put man!
By now The 1975 is the most hated band in Malaysia 😂
Even young Malaysians who have lived abroad their entire lives are outraged !
Imagined to be known only to be hated
I don't know, bands are rebels, and rebels love to fight injustice
Haha poor Malay why would you invite westerners band in your country if your country is not open to anything. You guys are muslims and entertainment is not for you guys. Most of you are ignorant about western things.
Honestly, i dont know about the band at all and yet i hate it now because of what they did in malaysia.. very disrespectfull !
Shoutout to the kid laroi for his kind gesture performing infront of fans eventhough the festival has been canceled.
i love how you put this in words as a foreigner with a different belief perspective. Thank you for being so understanding with the local law and our religion
exactly
"Malaysia is a country that has a very high tolerance in many things, that is why we can live together in harmony" Who is it you feel the need to tolerate, other Malaysian citizens?
@@markodeayou're a racist white radical.
@@byteme9718
Cuz there a lot of different races? Like do some research about our mix cultures
@@asain3586 I know all about Malaysia and its racist laws that discriminate against anyone who isn't Malay. Where have these laws and politics based on racial supremacy got you? Nowhere!
The Malays and their silly religion destroyed all potential Malaysia had at independence. Not being held back by either, Singapore managed to achieve fully developed, first world status by 1990 the same year Malaysia introduced its Wawasan 2020 program to do the same. Come completion in 2020 it had failed miserably and in some aspects the country was worse off than when it started. The SPV 2030 extension, despite only running for three years, is also clearly failing.
"Tolerance" in Malaysia applies only to one race, the Malays. All other groups get on fine with everyone else but you Malays are deeply resentful of the success of others. Success, achieved through hard work. You Malays want what they have but not to have to work for it. "Tolerance" is telling you not to start another massacre like you did in 1969 something you're closer to now that at any time since then.
I don't need to "research" because I know how Malaysia works better than you do. Malaysia is probably past the tipping point but unless you address racial issues, and stop the descent into the abyss of conservative Islam, there is no positive future.
Thank you Mark for respecting other people's beliefs, religion and traditions. Honestly as a Malaysian Citizen, I do really appreciate that actually. All we need is love and respect. Stay blessed, Mark O Dea! ❤
Why don't you let LGBTQ+ people have rights if you want Love and Respect. These are outdated barbaric laws created by white people. Why don't your people fight against these laws? Why do your people retaliate against LGBTQ+ people when something like this happens?
You don’t respect gay people why should we respect you
Respecting someone's beliefs doesn't mean telling other people what to do in the name of religion in culture.
You're so professional.👏 what's right is right what is wrong is wrong even though they're your fav band. As a foreigner you're full of respect towards this country. I'm a malay and a Muslim, hearing something like this from a non muslim, foreigner and big fan of theirs is something words couldn't express. Normally a big fan will always on theirs side no matter what! Thank you for your understanding and kind words. I hope u know that Malaysians are your big fan regardless races!😁🙌
Luckily I never knew this band existed until this incident happened. I was born in 1975 though. My taste of music is totally different from youngsters nowadays. My taste of music is all the old school music of rock'n'roll, pop, classical, jazz, traditional, country, heavy metal and oldies.
Betul tu bro.. aku yg lahir 1975 betul2 terasa... Kalau dpt mata aku dibuat mcm tu dah lunyai dah... Tiada maaf bagi mu
Same here. Who is the 1975¿ I browse few of their song @ Spotify, makes me sleepy. They can't even compared with big rock band such as Nirvana , Oasis etc..... 1 word, sleepy
I didn’t even get their name right initially until after many TikToks, thought it was 1795, would have made more sense, the thriving period of colonialism!
@@Jerrytan188 Yes. I like the old school music better because the melodies sounds more appealing & artistic. Whereas the new generation music sounds bland and too techno with less human creativity.

I attended Good Vibes Festival probably 8-10 years ago, and it is a cool, fun, free event for young people which must be supported all the way by everyone. My opinion on LGBT is that there are many non-muslims who are against it too or at least don't agree same sex marriage etc is legal, it's more of a Western narrative rather than seeing it from an angle of religion alone. I think Malaysia especially with the current government is pretty open, progressive and welcome freedom of expression, but, there are things you should not touch on. Furthermore, I find him extremely rude, does he not know he is a foreigner in foreign land and is performing in public?
no lgbt in Malaysia forever!!!!
He is lucky,if it's in north korea what would you thinks will he receive..a good big screw driver on the ass
He was also drunk on stage.
Also, what's he thinking when he's insulting our government? 🥴
For the Muslim it is solely Religion alone and the fear of Allah 's Wrath.
And the onus falls on every Muslim to uphold Allah' s set rules and regulations. Otherwise, everyone may face His Wrath : punishment.
You said it so beautifully. As a Malaysian I very much appreciate you spreading how its about respect. Bless your soul :3
Real disappointment written all over your face and heard in the tone of your voice. 😢 One rude performer offended the whole nation in the country and yet did not apologise. You are right! He must have thought that he is God.
Are u kidding me???? Hey human it just a kiss and nothing at all. Dumb is dumb lah
Please respect malaysia , kami rakyat malaysia menghormati semua undang-undang di negara lain yg kami datang ... Jadi tolong respect negara kami ,.. salinng menghormati...

"Please respect Malaysia" is just another way of telling people to follow your backwards beliefs and not let people have any sense of personal freedom.
Just sue 1975 for any financial damages caused by their actions, get the financial compensation make sure the festival doesn’t lose money because of them
class action lawsuits are in the way, so hopefully The 1975 gets sued up their arse.
He has a stand that is fair but the way he present it and make it heard while you are drunk and not in a sane mind, we need sane mind to speak of others
agreed!
But the thing, to create a fire is their intention. They knew exactly what they were doing and they don't care. 1975 will make it harder for every foreign band to ever enter and perform in Msia. Sad
yeaaa and we will all suffer!
Ive totally agreed with mark statement.. 1975 did even more worst for the future of entertainment industry itself oh gosh

Very well said, Mark. As a fan of the 1975 myself and having been excited to watch them perform live, I share the same sentiments in the disappointment and as a Malaysian, you truly took the words out of my mouth in expressing why. Thank you for this
Well said mark, totally agree with u
As a Malaysian Muslim, I admit that 1975 Band is a good music band. However, it is really a pity that the concert was canceled due to personal actions that violated the laws of the country. This behavior is like deliberately mocking and challenging, or even deliberately violating the country's established laws without any respect.

Good. You've blended so well with Msian people & yr views on this matter is rational & wise. Btw you look so sad & disappointed. Your fave band is a total disappointment. Shame on The 1975 from the UK for their unprofessional attitude & disgusting behaviour in our country.
Orang sekarang memang bertuah. Kalau cakap lebih 20 tahun dulu. Konsert besar atau festival tahunan di Malaysian memang tak ada sangat. Paling besar Rock The World kot. Itu pun artis dari Malaysia. Dulu nak tengok artis antarabangsa terutama dari UK or US datang Malaysia memang payah...lagi-lagi band rock. Muse, Kreator, Nofx, Linkin Park, The Strokes, Napalm Death dulu datang waktu Malaysia sangat ketat nak bawa artis luar ke sini. Proses nak bawa diaorang pun leceh.
Thanks for your opinions and views. Unfortunately, we are going to have more red tape on entertainment because of this incident. The organisers took a big risk to bring them here, notwithstanding the frontman's past behaviours, and have even appealed and guaranteed good behaviour, so I can't say they were totally blameless. The ironic thing is that the band played 2 nights in Singapore before Good Vibes, and nothing major happened there, so perhaps Malaysian organisers and authorities need to look into that as well.
Singapore os totally different.. They are open n relax on such thing which my opinion os not good... 1975 has been instructed not go touch on lgbtq agenda (Malaysia has the right to impose such restrictions.) such behaviour on stage is so uncalled for.
@@kimmeilim1970 I think it's not just that. Singapore is a money making spot because of the exchange rate but they do enforce their rules strictly, and if Matty Healy acted like that there, he would have been immediately arrested. We were so laxed they managed to leave the country before anything could be done.
If a Malaysian had done the same, the person would be behind bars now. Was Healy not charged because he's white and British?
Others who create havoc are immediately arrested. Africans have it the worst.
Well said. Full respect to you 👍👍👍
You must know malaysia religion country Muslim...please respect follow malaysia Low.
Very well said bro
Hi Mark - thanks for the video and I do understand what you trying to say in your view of respecting culture/personal views etc.
My concern is that none of the focus (or responsibility) here is on the actual Malaysian government, who decided to cancel the entire festival on the back of the brief comments made on-stage. I, personally, would argue to respect the artists autonomy to speak their views on what they believe is right. If people disagree, it is up to them. It also really didn't go on for that long.
From my point of view it appears an extreme action to cancel the entire festival because a foreign singer made some "objectionable" comments in some peoples view. Hence, the responsibility of lost opportunities and profits of involved artists/vendors should be placed on the government. The comments made were also pretty brief and they did not go on for that long about it. I understand it is a complicated situation with a muslim-majority country, but I feel like you are sidelining an important moral argument concerning the rights of LGBT people which Matty decided to voice. You cannot hold a band accountable for all these losses when it was completely not intent.
All this "disharmony" from this is much more reflective on the fragility of the government not to trust their citizens to make their own judgement about what was said, in place of a progressive front man who is known for making off the cuff comments about a variety of topics and issues (a quick RUclips search will reveal a lot of examples!). I think it is kind of dangerous rhetoric to blame the minor actions of the band to the clear over-reaction of the Malaysian government. Do they not believe their citizens can make up their own mind about what he said, without dismantling an entire festival? The crowd even cheered!
Anyway, just wanted to share my two cents and a different viewpoint. I respect yours and the citizens of Malaysia. Giving my best to all music lovers in Malaysia and hope you guys get the chance to enjoy more shows soon. :)
P.S. I will say that I thought relating this to the situation with the Qatar World Cup was in poor taste. Given that is an international tournament of the highest order - it is understandable that LGBT players and fans all over the world who have every right to participate were unhappy/upset about this - in a country where being gay is constituionally illegal and can thus be legally given the death penalty. I think saying "nobody is right and nobody is wrong" is too absolutist and to be honest, a bit of a cop out
Thanks Mark for educate others about our rules... Outsider will never understand. It is not only about religious... Its ethics.

Well said. Thank you for being respectful and understanding of our culture.
no problem!!
There are extremists everywhere. Like you said, Malaysia is in a perpetual delicate balance of so much diversity and thus we had to be extremely strict towards anything that could possibly disrupt this delicate harmony.
1975 sucks hard because they target such unprecedented harmony trying to create discord.
FYI, google 13th May 1969 and you can see why the anti-harmony crimes are treated so harshly in Malaysia.
Agree with u Mark on most of what u said. To me, bottomline is, freedom should not damage human dignity & civilisation. Tq Mark for being a +ve influencer. May Allah guidance be with u always

When I first heard that the 1975 was gonna be performing in Malaysia , I had doubts knowing how this band would drink and smoke on stage. How will the government handle this situation? And then boom, Matt just had to do what he always do (preaching his beliefs) in Malaysia. Since then , I stopped listening to their songs and lost respect in the band. It may sound silly, but I never thought I have to ‘unlike’ my favourite band in my life because outsiders are not allowed to talk bad shit about my beloved country !

thank you mark. i strongly believe that whether they r strainght or not just keep it to themselves. no need to share it to others. that band was really terrible. im so disappointed that nobody takes actions against them after humiliating our country dan religion.
Thank you Mark for being objective in your take on this matter:) We Malaysians will respect whoever respect us. Yet we can't tolerate people who clearly don't have any respect towards our religion and culture. As a guest, we should behave accordingly whenever we are in other people's country.
It's not only muslim community that are against LGBTQ but other religions as well.
You'll be surprised how many conservative Americans fighting them back ever since LGBTQ community targeting children. Hell, even Rob Smith black American gay denounced himself from that community.
Matt Walsh, Piers Morgan etc against these WOKE cultures.
Yes, that’s right. Non-religious people are also against the western-styled LGBTQ movement that’s pushing for self-identifying gender 🙄🙄 and for men dressed in frocks to used women’s toilets or changing rooms.
Dont pretend u all so clean like no sins .
@@alvink1164 I've heard this from someone. "We are not created to be sinless, but to sin less" Yes we are all full of sins. Yet we are also advised to stay away from doing any sinful acts. No one is born perfect. Perfection only belongs to Him.
And what @suria commented above is undeniably true. Homosexuality is not only prohibited by the Muslim community but is also forbidden in Christianity & opposed by the Western people as well. Try & search about the Spencer Church burning as an instance, apparently the church supported the pride movement - a 100+ years old church was struck by lightning. In the comment section you can see, even the Westerners themselves doesn't support LGBTQ+ & believe the 'burning' to be a warning from God Himself.

Thank God i was born in 80s, i enjoyed 90s music. Most of the western musicians, singers, bands were promoting their songs better than the generation after 2000s. Lots of female singers wear more appropriate clothing, while nowadays, it's just underwear. It's like singing skill & music are not enough to sell their songs. I remember 90s female singers like Leigh Nash, Jewel, Jennifer Paige, etc wore modest clothing compared to lady gaga, Britney, Beyonce, etc. Not to mention the explicit words in the lyrics.
Good luck for Gen Z and afterwards.

Couldn't say any better bro. Funny tho when I was studying in the UK, there were some people (like Matt Healy) told me to integrate with the society. I respected the Law in the UK, regardless my own beliefs. Made a lot of friends all over the world, learned their different cultures and and tried to understand why they think what they think.
People like Matt Healy is someone who would say diversity is a great things, but only diversity in skin colours and tones. He lives in his own bubble, even when he travelled to another countries, never tried to learn other cultures and beliefs. I do hope one he will change his way and mind, be a better person, so that people like you Mr Odea, and his other fans here in Malaysia, can enjoy his songs again.
ps/ I have never heard of him nor his band. But I am not kinda of person that wish harms to others (unless a war criminals of course, that different story) I believe people can change and be a better person. I wish him too will change one day, and his fans here in Malaysia able to enjoy his songs again.
No forever..if he come again to malaysia..We are ready!!!
@@zze4344 Broor sis, okay number 1. They couldn't come in Malaysia no more because they already have been banned, therefore they would never get the visa unless they come here illegally. They would be stopped at the immigration immediately.
Number 2: I only pray and wish one day they would change, be a better respectful person so that people like Mark Odea, who is big fan of him can enjoy their songs again.
Number 3: I am kinda person who never believe in fighting fire with fire, we should fight fire with water. The Muslim's prophet once had a neighbour who loved throwing stones at him and he did nothing. One day, she wasn't throwing stones no more, and our prophet went to visit her and found out she was ill. He decided to feed her instead. She changed and embraced Islam,

Never heard of 1975 until this issue. But I think Malaysia is too nice for letting him leave the country without a time in jail.
Malaysia had already made itself look stupid around the world by shutting down this event, arrest and jail would have done even more damage. As it is this will hit the tourist industry with people choosing to go to transit through elsewhere.
Totally with you on this!
You worded it amazingly. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Artists today are now expected to share their beliefs about different issues and use Instagram and concerts as a platform for preaching. They are paid to sing that’s the bottom line and not paid to politicise or share their opinions on things. Malaysia is diverse, it’s so important to be mindful of others. We truly live in a multicultural society. The fact that Sabrina Carpenter performed was already huge and now 1975 comes and just ruins the Good Vibes. Whyyyy. It’s not the organiser’s fault guys, don’t ask for a refund because they can go bankrupt.

I think canceling the entire event was a bit too harsh. Like you said, the selfish actions of 1975 not only affected themselves and their reputation but thousands of others financially when they literally did nothing wrong.I just hope the government is sensible enough to know that this was an outlier and wont impose needless restrictions. On another note, if they were trying to show support for the LGBT community in their own stupid way, they've probably set them back by years of progress towards acceptance.
Idk if im wrong, i think mereka takut kalau terjadi rusuhan etc. Cause more bad things than good. Postpone better instead of canceling terus. Tunggu all things sort out maybe?
Just my pov la. Stay strong all
They were drunk. And they criticised the gov
at first it might look like that, but government already knows about 1975 being problematic but both the band and the organizer have signed an agreement to not cause trouble with Malaysia government agency. so when the band broke the rule, guess who they brought down with? the organizer as well. this is not a kneejerk reaction from the government, the band intentionally did this. without 1975 the good vibes concert can still go on but organizer risked getting 1975 in and the band blew it.
The organiser and the band had signed letter of undertaking. Thts why

They are under influence. That makes things worst. Even when they are sober, they are not good people.
They dont have respect except to themselves
agreed!
Based and W comment Mark, respect!!
What a superbly balanced opinion. Thanks for this.
U have my respect when u said, 'we' gonna have more restrictions in a future. Tq, u see urself as a Malaysian.
In a world where you can be anything, be kind, and stand up for the rights and dignity of every individual, please respect the law of the country. 1975 don't come if u hate our law
What law? Malaysia chose to sign up to the United Nation Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This bans discrimination against people based on their sexuality. If Malaysia wants to portray itself a modern, civilised and just society then it should stick to the agreements it's signed.
You are well spoken and 100 percent correct…I do like the 1975 but Matty went too far and I too was sad to see what he did.
Your english is so easy to get understand. I like it 👍😍
Respect you for this, thank you ❤
Well said Bro! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well said Mark
Amazing commentary with common sense.
What are you saying mark is 100% right. No doubt at all.
