@@DigitalPhotoMentor When you showed the creative diversity of the tag picture and blurred everything vertically, then un-blurred individual trees; very nice. Additionally, the numerous backgrounds swirling with the female’s shot through a type of bokeh was creative and looking in general at the numerous ways of spinning the flowers created a WHOLE new perspective of artistry for background pictures; I never thought of! I’m not a generally ‘creative’ person but you took a simple tool and really opened my eyes towards editing objectives, as a photographer, I didn’t envision. Again, well done!

@@AXNJXN1 Awesome, thank you for that! The trees were fun to do and I had the idea to use the tool to make it look like Intentional Camera Movement like you'd do with a long exposure and moving the camera up and down. Then I had the idea to unblur some and loved the look it created. So I ran with it!

Some great tips here! I used the blur tool the other day to blend the edges of a cutout element on a composite. You can do this with a background swap to blend in your human subjects around the edges also.

The image with the tree trunks looked groovy! I think the Blur Tool might put the Lensbaby Twist 60 out of commission or at least save some people from buying creative lenses. I understand strength amount in masking but I still don't grasp the softness amount - I know it's soft versus harder edges but don't understand how you'd know which is best for the image. Also, I still don't quite get duplicating a layer. Does the duplicate go to the top of the list or bottom? That's the first thing that stumps me when I try it:). I literally saw what it did for your flower image b/c you made changes from the original and reversed some swirling, but in some of your live edits you've duplicated a layer for other purposes that I don't comprehend. I am sure you have a video further explaining it and I can look back at your NEO course! Thanks for this video.

when painting on the mask? Softness is the brush edge. The lower the softness the harder more well-defined the brush edge. So if you want it to blend softly and gently keep the softness high. If you are masking up against the edge of something and you don't want the lines blurred, use a harder brush (lower softness)
When you duplicate it goes on top. But you can change the layer order if need be. Yes It is in the lessons on layers. I duplicate to darken and use multiple blend mode. In the case of the yellow trees in this video I duplicated the layer first, did the blur effect on the new top layer. Then I masked it so that part of the original, the layer underneath, showed through so you could see the trees sharp in a few places.

Very unfortunate Neo doesn’t have a select subject for the Blur, insane in this Ai tech day and age they can’t build that in still
