  • In this quick video, I show you how much I pay for registering my Kia EV6 annually, compared to my ICE cars.
Do you think this is fair? How much does your state charge?

Yeah I saw most Cali folk are paying 700ish! Good revenue for the state.

Having used to live in Texas, I was curious about this topic. If you drive 15,000 miles per year...and *all* of those miles are in Texas, you're paying about $100 extra per year in gas taxes (.20/gallon). So in essence, Texas is taxing you twice as much to drive an EV. I love Texas and enjoyed my time there, but that is BS.

Absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable. We haven’t been able to afford the registration fee for our ID4 this year.

The $400 is high but I think it's for 2 years

It’s ridiculous that there’s that much of a difference in cost between gas and electric. I’m curious what the justification is or “reasoning” behind it.

Since we don't pay taxes on gas, they make up for it. I'm not opposed to it, but I also would like to see the math they did to get the number. I'm finding that it's not as high as other states though.

How much is the price of gas in Texas compared to the national average?

Usually on the lower side compared to other states. 3.09 for regular, up to 3.99 for 93.
