Something fresh and different on the radio then. It made me stop and think more than a Beatles or Stones song back then. Robert Lamm, baby! The vocal harmony and counterpoint is awesome.

The Greene Brothers Band's horn section, from HTX USA, do a pretty good rendition of it. I am their new drummer and it is on the set list for tomorrow's July 4 gig. The 5/4 timing in the beginning parts is a little tricky but doable.
@@cashmooreproductionsllc267 Yup. He (Lamm) wanted to write something completely different, not blues, and give the horns a chance to shine. The song is about time and he plays with time. His piano intro is freestyle and the intro continues with each measure changing time sig. from 7/8 to 9/8, making it sound "out of sync", then several measures in 5/4, resolving to a walking 4/4 for the rest of the tune. Today we only see Jazz music groups using horn instruments. Back many years ago such groups thrived. I first listened to Chicago as a child in the early 1970s.
I think he's hinting to a thought, what time is it ? 🤔 Time to love again, time for peace, time to erase all hate, time to respect God's word, time to enjoy a quiet memory, on a cool sunny day.🌷🌤️⏳
I was in my late teens when this song was popular. Their instrumental ability blew me away, even then. You never heard this kind of sound from a rock band.
This song is so soothing. Sitting in a park having a beer a month after my 14 year old son died. This song has been in my head all day for some reason. Great song though. 42 years old so it's not really from my time. Always preferred the old stuff though.
My first concert was Chicago and the Beach Boys together. My parents had to drive us to the show, I was like 15. I remember Lee Laughnane, the trumpet player, came out and sang You are so Beautiful -the Joe Cocker hit, solo with Lamm on piano during the soundcheck. Then, 1 hour of Chicago. 1 hour of Beach Boys. Next, 1 hour of both on stage, something like 15 musicians. Epic. I think we were all on our feet singing Barbara Ann and Saturday in the park. Terry Kath was an amazing guitarist, and the entire band was superb. Listen carefully to the drummer - one of the best ever - Danny Serephine.
I'm listening in February 2024. The absolute mastery of this band back in the 70s remains a wonder of the world

Me to - good memories and I am 61
Great band, great music. First heard this while in college in Minnesota. Brings back many memories. I will always love Chicago band's songs. Especially this song.
Perfect song for the pandemic. No one seems to know what time it is or care.
My high school Band played this brentwood high school brentwood long Island new York class of 78
Fabulous music then and now......I played the trumpet as a kid and imagine myself playing this everytime I hear it.....Their horn arrangements are fantastic.......
"sir, I just need the time please."
Ok , let me check my cell phone
Keep listening and enjoying 😊
@@benjamincarter1884 easy to listen and love
@@JamesScott-f2lI've always wanted to know the stories behind the song's I love. This is one I'd like to know about. Nevertheless, I enjoy this mellow creme
@@benjamincarter1884 it is very interesting how the meaning behind a song, once you find it out, doesn't always change how you directly interpret the song.
@@JamesScott-f2l probably because first impressions usually stick and we have to almost force our minds to see things peripherally ( broader)
Nostalgic! Great song-Great musicians-Great times!
Everybody needs to listen to this song, get their head focused on what really matters.
Well said,Real talk.Thank You for your message.
Lyrics:
As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah
And I said
Does anybody really know what time it is (I don't)
Does anybody really care (care about time)
If so I can't imagine why (no, no)
We've all got time enough to cry
And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead
And I said
Does anybody really know what time it is (I don't)
Does anybody really care (care about time)
If so I can't imagine why (no, no)
We've all got time enough to cry
And I was walking down the street one day (people runnin' everywhere)
Being pushed and shoved by people (don't know where to go)
Trying to beat the clock, oh, no I just don't know (don't know where I am)
I don't know, I don't know, oh (don't have time to think past the last mile)
(Have no time to look around) And I said, yes I said (run around and think why)
Does anybody really know what time it is (I don't)
Does anybody really care (care about time)
If so I can't imagine why (no, no)
We've all got time enough to die
Everybody's working (I don't care)
I don't care (about time)
About time (no, no)
I don't care
NOBODY REALLY KNOWS THE TIME ANYMORE 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
The build up and the push from the beginning of this song, culminating in :25 part gives me chills every time!!
Yes! Powerful.
Genius
The first song Chicago ever recorded. Amazing. 😊

I want to be young again and go back doing it all over. Didn’t know how lucky I was growing up in this era.

“I command you, in the name of Lucifer, to spread the blood of the innocent!” 😂
Favorite band they were outstanding
STILL ARE!
So great
Today we only see Jazz music groups using horn instruments. Back many years ago such groups thrived. I first listened to Chicago as a child in the early 1970s.
Song leaves me speechless. What a treasure!
I think he's hinting to a thought, what time is it ? 🤔
Time to love again, time for peace, time to erase all hate, time to respect God's word, time to enjoy a quiet memory, on a cool sunny day.🌷🌤️⏳
Takes me back to the early 70’s I was a Chicago freak I had Chicago posters and I love the memories of those days !

I love RUclips,l can hear these wonderful song l haven’t heard for 50 years ! Who needs a stereo.
I was in my late teens when this song was popular. Their instrumental ability blew me away, even then. You never heard this kind of sound from a rock band.
One of their very best early tunes!!
Just love the little prelude piano there at the beginning of the song!!
This so brings me back . . . I actually heard them live a few times back in the day!
This song is so soothing. Sitting in a park having a beer a month after my 14 year old son died. This song has been in my head all day for some reason. Great song though. 42 years old so it's not really from my time. Always preferred the old stuff though.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. May God comfort you through this difficult time 🙏😢
I am 44 years old, and this makes me wish I could go back in time. Just one day. I can close my eyes I and feel like I am there when I hear this.
バックコーラスとブラスの響きが最高ですね❣️
The band, the album, the song- what else is there to say!
The sounds always bring back great memories
Just stumbled upon this band and I'm so loving this nostalgic music.
