I am watching your video 2 hours before my EPIK interview and this was so helpful. I was nervous and started watching videos and what you said at the end really calmed my nerves. Just gotta be myself. I am nervous cause I have no teaching experience but hopefully it all works out.
I hope you had a good interview! Honestly, teaching experience does not matter too much, you will learn all you need to know while in orientation and on the job! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks for this video! It was very informative. Are you in Seoul? I’ve always heard that it’s super hard to get placed there. Do you think you did anything during the application process to get that location?
Yes, I was placed in Seoul. It is difficult to get Seoul placement so I recommend completing all of the requirements as quickly as possible. That includes getting a head start on things like your apostilled diplomas and certifications. Good luck!
That’s great to hear, because the shades in my complexion are too dark and too red for me as well. I am looking forward to giving the new shades a try!
Hello, I've been having trouble finding people who have done this. What about people who don't have family in the states to hold onto your belongings? Were you in that situation? Did you put anything storage or get rid of everything?
Hi Jules and thank you for your question. I have family back in America so I left some of my personal belongings (diplomas, memory boxes, and small things I didn't need in Korea) with them. If you don't have family back home, purchasing storage is always an option. This is a pricey option, but honestly I think this is one of the only ways to ensure your belongings are secure while you are in Korea. Also, I should note that coming to Korea is a long-term move for me, so I sold most of the belongings I wasn't bringing with me. That includes all my apartment furnishings and most of my personal belongings. I would consider how long you want to stay, and the pros and cons to getting rid of almost everything vs keeping it in storage. I hope this helps you!
@@HunterBrenaé Thanks for being so detailed! I would like for this move to be long term but life always happens you know. My parents will only be there another 3-5 years whereas I would like to be there as long as possible so I wasn't sure what to do.
@@julespmc2042 I completely understand! There's a lot to consider when making an international move andI hope you can find all the options available so you can make the best choice for you and your family! Let me know if you have other questions in the future ❣
Hi Hunter ! I was wondering what were the kids like in South Korea . I know many people talk about the program or how the coworkers are but are the kids temperaments well? Are they pretty disciplined or need management?
Hi Ja’da! I really love your question bc it gives me a chance to gush over my students. They really make everyday worth it! They are no different from any elementary age child in your country. So, you will have your fair share of amazing, hardworking kids with some trouble makers mixed in there (although I relate most to the troublemakers since I was one when I was young). The language barrier will lead to some miscommunication, but they are so tender hearted and will truly want to know all about you. Sorry for the long message, but the kids really liven the experience for me and many other native English teachers. Hope this answers your question ❤️
Hey Maya! Just wanted to let you know that I just uploaded a video answering your questions! Feel free to check it out and let me know if you have more questions 🖤
I’m considering epik and maybe going through a hagwon my biggest deciding factor is work and personal life balance. If I teach no matter who I go through I want to have time to take Korean language classes and overall just enjoy the city. With that being said do you feel like you have time for your personal life? I do understand that first and foremost applicant are there to work and teach not act like it’s a vacation but me personally I do enjoy a balance so I’m wondering if you feel like you have a balance? Thank you!!
This is a really great question. So, with Epik you are on a strict 8:40am-4:40pm schedule. When 4:40pm hits, your time is yours. I am currently taking Korean language classes 3 times a week after work. Also, I have established a work-life balance so I enjoy my free time when I’m not at work and I enjoy my work life when I am at work. I hope that makes sense! Please let me know if you have more questions!
Hello, I am from South Africa, someone just said Epic will no longer be taking South African's to come teach English in South Korea, is this true??? Thank you so much for this video💟
Hi Nolwazi, I personally haven't heard that information nor seen that broadcast from EPIK. With the panorama, teachers from many countries have had difficulty coming to teach here, but with the vaccine rolling out I think those restriction are coming to an end. I will keep an eye out for any information, though.
Hi Belina! I have one also and the only thing they told me is to take it out at school. My recommendation is to be upfront in your application and interview about it. They are more understanding if you are outright with tattoos and piercings. Thanks for the question! Let me know if you have more 😁
I won’t have to file taxes in South Korea for 2 years (because of the IRS 6166 form), but I will have to file in America every year. Are you from America? And did you file taxes for this year yet?
Hmm... I may have misspoke somewhere, but fees include purchasing your documents after you pass the application, buying the plane ticket (you get money back), corona testing (if it’s still a think when you go), and quarantine. Let me know if I said something to contradict this!

Hi, I’m not 100% sure how much smoking influences your medical check, but I know of other teachers who smoke cigarettes and they did not have issues (as far as I can tell). I hope this helps!

No, I have a science degree.
Who takes the interview a korean netizen that is fluent in English?
The interviewer is an EPIK employee. Some of them are Koreans living in Korea, but there are non-Korean employees also.
