Another note about skeletal remains is that archaeologists look at grave goods, the things that people are buried with, and try to be respectful of what the person whose remains they found would want…even if its a skeleton with mostly male physical markers, if the skeleton is wearing a dress (synthetic material lasts a long time) or if the skeleton is surrounded by typically feminine objects, the archaeologist will typically either call the skeleton they or she. As both, hell yeah. The whole process of recognising that after I was diagnosed is the reason that I managed to finally work out some important things gender-wise, I'd bet. I've known that I'm nonbinary for about 13 years but dipped in and out of "I must be faking it" denial for the first 10, and didn't even recognise my dysphoria _as_ dysphoria likely because of that.

11:15 - I have been harassed multiple times in the bathroom by ladies asking me if I’m in the right place or security coming in “to make sure everything is all right.” A few times I’ve exited the bathroom after whoever had been inside when I walked in left, to be faced by their husband/ other man person yelling at me. One time a guy saw me going into the bathroom, tried to grab me, and when I dodged his hand, he yelled, “you can’t go in there!” And tried to follow me inside. I don’t feel comfortable in restrooms anymore.
I am not trans. I have long hair. But I’m tall and wear jeans and t shirts, and so I must be a trans person trying to take an evil poo or something. Just let people be who they are. It’s not difficult. As the count stands, I have been given several new traumas in a public restroom by the very same women and men who say they are trying to protect girls (I was a teen the first time it happened) and I’ve been bothered by a trans-person in a bathroom exactly zero times. So who do we all really need to be protected from? Because it’s definitely not the trans person just doing their business in the next stall.

    • @depixelator5599
      @depixelator5599 Год назад +72

I can sort of see why one might fear a “man” going into the women’s restroom since women are at higher risk of being assaulted, HOWEVER one thing a lot of those same people don’t realize is that a sign is not going to stop a man from going into a bathroom to assault a woman. No real man is going to transition in order to have a free pass to assault a woman because it’s too much effort when a man can just walk into the bathroom and do the deed with no physical side effects to their own self.
They also don’t usually seem to understand the gravity of forcing a trans woman to use the men’s restroom. By doing so, that trans woman is at a higher risk of being assaulted themselves.
The lack of self awareness from people like that is baffling. It gives me a migraine every single time I see someone encouraging people to harass trans women, and hell, I’ve seen some women encourage men who carry to USE WOMENS RESTROOMS because they feel unsafe from the scary transes. In truth, they aren’t protecting anybody. They’re shooting themselves in the foot. It’s really sad to watch.
I’m sorry you had to encounter people like that. It’s truly gross and sad.

Some of the looks even seemed somewhat supportive. I got a similar mixture of looks when I went to my high school graduation in a suit. Though that clothing choice was commented on. Noone said anything all too bad, but at the time I also wouldn't have cared if they had said something more negative, I was very confident in that choice. I would find it quite weird if anyone in a store tried to tell me that I should actually go to the women's section instead...

I agree. Several years ago, I was very bigoted when it came to anything outside of what I grew up with. Especially LGBT+ stuff. Over time, I met wonderful people that helped me grow and learn from their perspectives and how wrong I was in my beliefs. It took a while, but my friends were patient and answered my questions. I even found out I was Ace because i felt comfortable enough to question my own identity. I think OT is like that for many of us. A good person that shows us perspectives of others and makes us feel comfortable enough to be ourselves. Thank you OT and thank you Beardos and Weirdos. You guys are amazing. :)

I'm not trans but I'm a femboy. I love womens clothing, it's much more varied and interesting and I threw out my mens clothing ages ago. Now I only have stuff for work, for the reasons that I enjoy being able to advance my career without older generations trying to put me down. Though I have gone to company events dressed as I like.

Your videos remind me that “hey, there are people out there just like you, you’re not alone, you’re going to get there, and you’re going to find your way of doing it.” And I really, really appreciate that. as a society, we rush people into figuring out who they are to the point where people, like you, justifiably get scared with whether you have found the right label.
im gonna tell you the same thing that helped me with this:
you think you might be wrong about being trans? so what? what harm comes from exploring the label and trying it to see if you like it. it's like clothes, you can try stuff on, choose to keep or get rid of it, and even if for more you keep it and layer you decide you don't like it, you can stop using it! you wouldn't say someone was faking owning a shirt bc they no longer wear it, right?
society doesn't really allow us to explore and try stuff like it should. but use whatever term feels most accurate for now. you might find a more accurate term later or change your mind or whatever and that is okay
i thought i was a cis crossdresser, then binary bigender, then binary trans woman, then nonbinary autigender trans woman, and currently at autigender bunnygirl (or autigender+bungender+female). but it took me from age 23-29 to go through all those labels.

I know you were speaking on people who struggle with gender and sexuality and such, and the importance of having spaces for that. But what you said about breaking out of the same conversations with yourself really hit me.
I struggle with feeling like I don't belong anywhere and I have for as far back as I can recall in my 34 years. It's led to some intense assertions that should never have been earthside to begin with and I need to make my exit as soon as I can muster up the courage to do so. It's made me isolate myself socially and emotionally to the point that I feel utterly singular.
Recently, several people in my life have reminded me that I have people who care about me and want to see me thrive. And what you said really drove home how important these people are to me and why I need to not be so closed off. To trust, to be open, to feel both the positive and the negative to whatever extent they come. But most importantly, to find connection, so I don't have the same conversations with myself over and over
    And that I'm not alone
You may be some guy on the internet looking at memes, but you remind us all that we aren't alone. You'll never know my name or see my face but I believe you're sincerity and genuinely kind spirit is a beacon in the dark to all of us who struggle.

Thanks for being so loving, supportive, kind, and way too many other positive adjectives for me to possibly try to list, to all of us in the LGBT+ community and everyone else. We love you, OT.

15:20 This was so unbelievably wholesome, one, because it is, and two, because it somewhat describes my own journey about the LGBT+ community.
I remember asking my kindergarten teachers about if men can marry men, and women can marry women. Then, I grew homophobic during middle school. Now, I can recognize that the LGBT+ community is full of valid and amazing people.

i'm so happy i found this community and i love you all! this world is rotten to the core (just found out about sephora kids and toxic mum boys yesterday, holy hell) and all those videos are so wholesome. this gives me hope tbh.
i believe loving yourself is hard for everyone, but trans ppl really ARE a good rolemodel. And that's why i changed my mind from being more or less transphobic to being a supporter (didn't took me that much tbh, i like nice ppl and i always support good communication rather than standing still on a old timeline :D).
And i've learned so much in the last 3 months, thanks to onetopic, the click and jammidodger (and more) which i'm very greatful for. because i see things very differently now. Not only other ppl, but also me.
so thank you. all of you and your kind hearts. I love this whole community for it's wholesomeness, creating a save space for everyone, sharing thoughts and fears.
I guess most ppl disliking trans ppl have just no clue at all and are too lazy and uninteressted to learn something about the topic. And also maybe be afraid of learning something new, which didn't made sense for them before, or because someone older didn't teach them in the first place, that things can change. Sometimes even dramatically, like gender identity and pronouns :D Nothing in this world is made to exist forever anyway... So why not?
Why can't we just have a happy world? I don't care who you are, just be nice and happy being youself.

It is definitely strange being seen as a young man (I started testosterone at 14). On one side, I was constantly suddenly told that wearing eyeliner (I'm punk and goth even now, interchangeably depending on how I feel) was feminine and disgusting. I was shunned from the girls bathroom but adults said I couldn't use the men's because they could still "tell" (they knew before I transitioned).
I've been told I'm not allowed to cry and I shouldn't talk about the fact that I go to therapy. I've been called weak. I've been called gay (which I am) by strangers in a hurtful manner because I wear skinny jeans. I've been shunned by women who believe in the "kill all men" stereotypes. I've been hit by guys who thought I was making a move on their new girl when she was my best friend.
But presenting as a girl was just as bad.
There is no good gender. There is none better than the other. There are bad sides to both, and amazing perks I never realized came from both.
Nobody looks at me weird when I buy things that are more masculine, and I get gushed over by older women when I buy period products because I'm "such a good boyfriend".
The experiences are so different but neither are better objectively. I, however, would much rather be told to shut my emotions down than be sexualized as a b***** lesbian. I would much rather be yelled at for wearing eyeliner than told that I look disgusting with no makeup. I would much rather be called gay for doing the things I've always done than be called broken and going through a phase when I presented as feminine.

Dude. When I found your channel I was in a dark place, grabbed by trauma and with suicide on my mind. I'm trans and the world had gotten to me. I felt like there is nothing but hate outside of trans communities, hate that will just keep spreading until it destroys me and those like me. I saw friends and family buy into demonization and lies and it crushed me. You were so positive and accepting and caring of everyone (even your attitudes to people whom I wouldn't have given second chances was so shockingly caring) and I saw a glimpse of the world being better than it looked to me. So I managed to push on, found help for the trauma and come to a place where I'm not just ok but in many ways better than before. Thank you for doing what you're doing even if to you it's just looking at memes.

      @shadowking278 Год назад +5

Yeah. I’ve been suffering from that fear for so long. I’ve always been afraid of trying to express myself because “men shouldn’t show emotions.” And “just be happy. Don’t show any anger or sadness.”
I don’t even remember how to smile properly. I feel so cold. My mind constantly on loop of nightmares and being told to basically not feel anything.
It’s gotten so bad that when I finally thought “I’m not a man. I am not (deadname) I’m a girl. I am Amy.” All I could hear was my own voice going “you are a boy. You’re not Amy. You are (deadname). If you do this. No one will be with you. You’re already worthless enough. And you’ve already caused so much damage. Don’t hurt your family more than you already have. just suck it up. Or maybe you should do what you were going to do when you had that knife.”
I’ve been dealing with that for so long. And I’m scared that this might not be the first time this has happened. I have recently found scars below both of my wrists. And I don’t remember where they came from.

@@shadowking278 I remember when I was in a similar place.. where I was so tired and couldn't really feel anything.. having things like "sl*t", "lying lazy piece of sh*t", or "embarrassment" running through my head like rapid fire..
Now that I realize I want to be a boy, I've gotten much better at discerning my own inner voice from other people's voices. The only advice I can give you is to follow what makes YOU happy. Look out for #1, because sometimes no one else will. Your gonna be stuck with yourself your whole life, your your closest friend. Then you'll be able to find the people who will be there when you need them most. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

I've watched this video over the past year or so at least half a dozen times now (my memory ain't amazing, but it comes with the benefit of being able to rewatch these videos multiple times and still feel like some of the memes are new). So I'll hop in with my own story.
I started questioning my gender in December 2021 after having a rough year. That year I was struggling with the pandemic, my relationships (or lackthereof) with others, school, and that same month I ended up dropping out of school due to my anxiety and being forced to go back in-person. At that point, I had felt really alone and had time to sit alone with my thoughts. I thought about my childhood and how I suppressed a lot about myself to fit in with others.
In January 2022, I came out to friends as Non-Binary and started exploring myself and my identity. I stumbled onto the trans side of Reddit and found OT through those subreddits. After spending a couple months in those subreddits, watching OT, and experimenting with myself, I had come to realize I'm a trans woman. It took a while for me to really accept it, but after a while, I just couldnt deny it anymore.
It's been a little over two years since I came out to my friends as a Trans Woman. Since then, I've come out publicly to my family and friends, I've started HRT (I've been on it for 9 months now!), and I've improved my life drastically! I've also come to realize that I'm an Asexual Lesbian too!
So this is all to say: Thank you OT. Thank you to everyone on the r/egg_irl and r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnns subreddits (rip r/traa btw). Thank you all for helping me figure out who I am and helping me feel safe and supported throughout my journey so far.
    - Tess

As a young biologically fem enby who goes by he/they and has spent the past 3 years going back and forth with that identity, the "if you think you're faking it, you're not" really hit me. My family all thinks that I'm just confused, and that I'm being influenced by the people I surround myself with because my closest friend is a trans male. It's been tough, but for once I finally managed to block out other people's influences, which have been affecting me since I was a kid, and managed to figure myself out on my own terms. As hard of a time as I've had coming to terms with my gender, knowing I'm not alone in that has really helped. Watching videos like these have really helped in that. Thank you, OT.
