1:21 Glad somebody finally said it. This show never should have been grand in scale. Any show focusing on Obi-Wan during this period of his life should have focused on how Obi-Wan dealt with his war experiences. His "brother" betrayed him and now he has to secretly guard his son, all the while living on a hostile planet. His Order has fallen. If we include the Clone Wars series as canon, the love of his life died in the war. There was so much potential for this show to deal with philosophical/cognitive/moral conflict rather than combative (if action was included it should only be done to further the aforementioned). But instead, we got this. It's kinda hard to write a morally, cognitively, or philosophically insightful show if you or the company you serve no longer values inner growth.
i think its based on star wars being popular with its lightsaber or fights, so they decided to put complex and fighting stuff because they thought its needed in a show with a jedi
How does the force feel? Depends whether or not it is wrapped around your throat or curling around you in pulses of lightning, I suppose... or sure, let's just say it feels like turning a light on.
The fact that Organa who is still part of the imperial senate, could have petitioned the empire to get his daughter back. Vader and the emperor himself would have back handed Reva for her inept decisions. Even though Organa was close to the Jedi, every Senator was during the clone wars. So the empire would have tried their best to bring her back home
Ok I hate Disney Star wars but I like to rationalize things before I say it's bad so I can give a somewhat decent excuse for this. I'm episode 4 is implied that the imperial Senate has Rebel sympathizers hence the need for the death star to keep people in line. Bale more than likely would have been under suspicion for harboring resentment for the Empire. As such that may not have worked especially with Sidious and Vader's lack of tact and sympathy and killing anyone that messes up let alone would oppose a decision.

@@ritenac6770 Chasing Kenobi for revenge is different than trapping Luke to use him to overthrow the emperor, so it requires different tactics. So the mere fact that he'd used Force pull on a ship before doesn't mean he would've done it again in a different situation.
One of the funniest things is how Obi-wan talks(not whispers) about being a Jedi in the back of the truck, and the mole man most likely has good hearing because he's a fucking mole man, and we know the mole man also talks to people who are in the back all the time. So of course he's going to hear that and warn the troopers.
18:00 - So, I actually looked into this. Apparently, the SHOW WRITER himself admitted that he HADN'T seen ROTS, and figured it would be more narrativly intresting if Obi Wan didn't know, despite the fact he was making a show for prequel fans...
It’s amazing that this is was supposed to be such a hyped show and have amazing followups like -what was kanobi doing while vader took over - how did he learn to communicate/ become a force ghosts becaues in the first movie he says that he will be more powerful as a ghost And lastly if anything besides the empire happened? This show really was just laya gets kidnapped … and that’s pretty much it
_Obi-Wan cuts his Force phone line_ "Why didn't you call me?" Obi-Wan to Qui-Gon "You weren't ready for a phone call." Qui-Gon No. I'm pretty sure it's the whole cut himself from the Force nonsense. Qui-Gon has become a liar, and Obi-Wan is brain meltingly stupid. In truth, the writers of the show most likely forgot their own show they wrote and wanted a reveal for the slack-jawed of the viewers. But the show is near perfect guys, everyone is too hard on the show.
@24:29 something to add here is that obi wan right now is supposed to be very weak in the force, a power that helps guide his actions so with this context turns obi wan from a mere reckless jedi to an absolute lunatic
Holy crap, I didn't watch a single episode of this show, only the reviews from long men and their like. I didn't expect the dialogue to be so bad. I stopped at 3:31 and I think I'm gonna need a drink to get through an hour of this.
The prequels have some fantastic writing. As a whole, they are deeply flawed, but there is so much there. The world building also allowed so many great stories in the eu. RotS is my favorite star wars film and, while it has many issues, the good makes my subjective take be one of love. This show was far worse than the prequels. I was hoping for a small scale show and, as usual with these shows, it started okay, then progressively went from "this line is messy" to "the entirety of the main star wars story no longer functions." I'm past the point of anger with Star Wars for the most part, I'm just sad now. Thanks for the vid Madvocate.
God, we live in an era where the writing is so bankrupt that even the fucking prequels - the poster child of creative bankruptcy - are considered good with "fantastic" writing in comparison.
@@Ruldolphmaker they do have some fantastic details in there. Overall, very flawed films, but there is good to latch onto. In addition, most of the prequels’ flaws aren’t foundational, whereas with many stories out now, you need a complete reset to get a functional story. There are MANY issues with the prequels, but similar to NWH, there is also a decent amount of good writing within the muck.
Hello, a fan of Mauler here. First video of yours I've seen and I'm likening what I see so far. Just wanted to point out something a lot of people seem to have missed. 1. Bail Organa is a member of the Imperial Senate and the ruler of the powerful Core world of Alderaan that was a founding member of the Republic. If his daughter went missing, the first thing he would be doing is using his connections within the Senate to send the Imperial Army after her and make whoever stole her wanted throughout the galaxy not even mentionng the huge bounty that the Organas would put out towards the safe return of their daughter. 2. Remember that scene where the Grand Inquisitor confronts Reva in that city? Notice how the lines about the archive and using Leia as bait don't sound the same? That's because the line about the archive was ADR’d in to fill in the plot hole that they made.
I agree. It's silly that obi wan is flip flopping between ideals. Like in epsiode 3 despite what he endured. He stepped up to his task assigned by yoda with no reluctance or hesitation.
Worst part: He barely tried to argue with Anakin, Obi Wan was faithful enough to put down jedi like Anakin who was essentially his brother to preserve the justice and yet Vader doesn't do that in Kenobi series
Y'know, now that I think about it, the whole Leia story could've been a show on it's own, and to give the people extra fan service, they could've made a younger Mando be the hired gun that has to save her.
Unfortunately the movies and shows have done little to support this fact. Many Jedi wear very similar robes, and we do not see many commoners wearing them. Surely different commoners from different planets would wear different outfits? So shouldn't Jedi have different styles to accommodate this?
@@CptnCardboard Oh absolutely, the sheer lack of worldbuilding in this universe is staggering. They don't even wear tattered or dirty robes they're always nice and clean.

@@enderlord8771 I don't think it's an idea you'd hear from Lucas or Filoni, but to me it's more fun to look for how the story fits together than how it falls apart. Generally, if I don't like a story, that means I don't understand it, so I look at it with different lenses or leave it alone.
@@yagamifire7861 Thank you! I kinda figured but also thought it would be very funny if he was talking and breathing at the same time. Thank you for being so polite on the internet
17:15 if Vader was written as he normally should be Reva shouldn't know that it's Anakin Skywalker, even TARKIN didn't know for sure who was under the helmet and he was one of the emperor's most trusted people 💀💀
At the risk of writing the show for them, she did encounter Vader after he turned (but before the suit), and people can recognise a familiar presence in the force (as demonstrated when Vader senses Obi-Wan in A New Hope). She could have met Vader and felt the same presence from that day
28:37 Vader has the ability to sustain himself through the force for limited periods of time. As such when he turns off his respirator or holds his breath he becomes the stealthiest entity in the Star Wars universe At Night.
I think one of the biggest missed opportunities would be to reveal that Qui-Gon had been basically haunting Anakin/Vader since after ROTS, I definitely thought he would be revealed after the last Vader/Obi-Wan fight and talk to Vader while he was laying there.
@Madvocate, Obi just didn't train cause it's like going solo to a gym, I guess. He wanted Luke to grow up and start together. So he just chills, eat pizza knowing he'll start training again a bit later with Luke.
man it would be so cool to have it be like bcs gene scenes with obi wan and have him reminiscing about the old days while having to remain in hiding. you could have the opportunity to have flashbacks of what wasnt shown in the prequels
Yes kenobi not defending his coworker during the meat job is logical at this point. However its weird that they are meat mining in that way on a desert
The scene where Vader kills randos on Mapuso would have bene so much more emotional if Obi-Wan had ran, and felt each death through the Force, then eventually it became too much and he chose to go back to face Vader. As is...it kind of feels like the writers just thought they needed Obi-Wan there to be the reason they were showing the audience this happening, which is unnecessary.
1:00 I don't think it needs to be small and character-driven, though that'd be a great story too. Obbie-Wowbie is a moderately experienced combat leader and guerrilla fighter, so you could have anything up to the Empire sending out a small fleet for a special mission in a system somewhere in the region and Obbie's got to buck himself up enough to go deal with it, maybe pick up some ex-republic troops on the way, maybe steal some stuff so he can hire some mercenaries or buy a couple of ships, get his hands dirty, put some people in harm's way, maybe even only get half a win at the end of it. And then when the crappy job is done for scant thanks, and crippled ships are drifting around with crews dying as the fires reach them or the air bleeds away or the astromechs driven crazy with combat overload cut them into pieces where they're trapped in the wreckage; he gets to go back to collecting sand in his crevices on Tatooine.
In the Mustafar fight, Vader had Obi-Wan on the back-foot the entire fight. The only reason he lost was because he got overconfident. So, after Obi-Wan getting weaker (or at the very least not stronger), and Vader not only getting stronger, but no longer overconfident, HOW DOES IT MAKE ANY LOGICAL SENSE THAT VADER LOSES THE FINAL FIGHT?!
If someone kidnaps a Senator's daughter, then that Senator should be sending Republic troops to find her, not making a call to a guy he's not even supposed to know.
Even if you wanted to have your cake and eat it too, and have a finale where Vader and Kenobi fight, and they both survive, there is so many tropes that let you do this that are way better and way more consistent, and yes I said tropes. These are commonly used scenarios within lots of shows to force a tie in fight scenes. For example, Vader is on the verge of defeating kenobi and crushes him under rubble. Presuming kenobi is dead, he leaves. In reality, kenobi used little amounts of force to soften the blow, leaving him unconscious, not dead. Or Vader, realizing he can’t win, reminds kenobi that he’s still anakin at heart, causing kenobi to hesitate on the final blow, giving Vader enough time to force choke a surviving civilian. Kenobi, now forced to save the civilian, gives Vader room to escape. This one is the best IMO. For one, you still get to keep many aspects of the main fight the same. Vader still loses, kenobi still has a moment where he could kill Vader but chooses not to. But this time it’s for a reason. We also get to see a lot of flaws in kenobi, like how he still sees Vader as anakin, as a brother, if just for a second, he still doesn’t want to kill him. Also, showing kenobi still follows the jedi code deep within, and wants to protect people, even if he told the other jedi he meets that following the code will only get them killed or in trouble. This all highlights his hypocrisy, turning the shitty character writing into a genuine character flaw, which makes him to introspect, and questions if he even wants to train Luke. Which sets up a character ark that reinvigorates his faith in the code, and trains to become someone worth training Luke. (Be it through other characters motivating him, or whatever)

This show could have been fixed by keeping Obiwan on Tattooine, having close calls with inquisitors and having flashbacks exploring his trauma, then make Reva a bounty hunter (and secret Jedi) hired by Bail looking for Leia, and is then caught by the inquisitors and she can die heroically without these two plots connecting. The people who wrote this have no idea what they are doing. Leia could have been kidnapped because Bail is being too much of a lib, and a Moff wanted to terrorize him into compliance or something, instead of some nobody knowing the greatest war hero of the clone wars was actually space Hitler now.
i know this is a relatively old video but in TCW it is shown that obi wan is an incredible marksman, TCW also explains another reason he wouldn't help others which was his time as a slave.
Riva somehow feels like what if a toxic Star Wars stan somehow got transported into the Star Wars universe due to her knowing shit she shouldn't and couldn't have known and also her general attitude toward everything.
34:34 I’ll be frank, they should’ve made him look like a hunchback, since that’s a thing that’s at least plausible, would’ve made a hell of a lot more sense that it almost worked too
2:08 There are also inquisitors routinely interrogating the people in town. Jedi Fallen Order also established that using the force can lead to others force users quickly finding you 4:51 I know that Star Wars Rebels and The Bad Batch established that the Empire uses chain codes for transport ships, but that’s clearly not the case here on Tatooine 9:53 I know his hood from his robes sort of hides his face, but why not just look different by shaving off your beard or even all your hair so that you’re unrecognizable 55:06 Y’know if you really wanted to keep Leia’s identit a secret you could’ve just kept her a secret from the rest of the world and keep her in your home like Toph Beifong
How could obi wan just let a jedi be tortured and die. That's fucked up beyond belief. Come on. No amount of sadness would ever let him throw away life like that. That's blatant character assassination
What context makes it impossible for Kenobi to let someone die painfully & do nothing to stop it? He's already done it. Then you add that he has to go unnoticed to protect the future. His job was to be there for Luke. As he put it, the Jedi are over. He can't protect a fellow Jedi any more than he can protect anyone else from harm, without jeopardizing his purpose on Tatooine. That was his mindset until he decided to go after Leia.
@@2QAYL1138 he could offer the jedi refuge. He could guide him to a safer world. Be just abandoned him I can't imagine Alec doing that. Even if he had to protect Luke
@@simon-peterwilliamson2412 Of course Alec wouldn't do that. Alec is long after he's learned the things he needs to in the show. Yes, he could've done the right thing all the time but he has some weaknesses that he has to overcome when the show starts. He has to keep to himself or he risks Luke's safety & the show proves that by Luke being hunted in the last episode. He's not in a good place mentally at the beginning of the show. He was in a "the ends justify the means" mentality, somewhat like Anakin, due to his guilt. He was nearly hopeless & that other Jedi's death was what broke him out of it & led him to set things right.

Kenobi thought he killed Anakin, so it wouldn’t be impossible for Palpatine to name someone else Vader, especially since Kenobi has no proof he’s still alive.

Just to be clear. I am a Snyder fan but I don’t hate you. I love your work. I accept the criticism that you gave to Snyder’s Flash, but I still do enjoy watching that movie, especially the scene where he travels back in time. I know that comments like that can be hurtful so I just wanted you to know that I love your work.

@@NASkeywest Lol what. 😂
A lot of potential...wasted.
Gotta love how this man only has 15 videos and all 15 of these are the best vids on RUclips
How does the force feel? Depends whether or not it is wrapped around your throat or curling around you in pulses of lightning, I suppose... or sure, let's just say it feels like turning a light on.
As some how is regularly baby-sitting a 3 year old I can say for a fact Cocomelon is by FAR of higher writing quality than Kenboi
Bluey has better writing tbh.
Yeah, if bail brought his up in the senate reva would be gutted(aka. a slap on the wrist) and leia returned with a cover story. Story over
Ok I hate Disney Star wars but I like to rationalize things before I say it's bad so I can give a somewhat decent excuse for this.
Vader actually shouldn't be able to force pull the ship at the end of part 5. In Empire he sees the Falcon take off near him on Hoth and did nothing.
He did nothing because Luke wasn't on the Falcon.
@@2QAYL1138 But he wants the Falcon and its passengers. He chases them into an asteroid field (at great risk to his ships and men) and hires bounty hunters to achieve this.
@@robertbeisert3315 Ok so either he knew he had backup to catch them once they left the atmosphere, or he knew the Force pull was impulsive & 12 years later he's mature enough to be willing to go with the long con instead.
@@2QAYL1138 he had backup in Kenobi, and why would he think it ‘mature’ not to do it when he would have been successful if there wasn’t a second ship?
If anything he should be more inclined to do it again since it’s only the Falcon and 12 years ago the ship escaped his backup
Apparently, the SHOW WRITER himself admitted that he HADN'T seen ROTS, and figured it would be more narrativly intresting if Obi Wan didn't know, despite the fact he was making a show for prequel fans...
why do people that have no relationship to the original get to write a sequel show?
It’s amazing that this is was supposed to be such a hyped show and have amazing followups like
-what was kanobi doing while vader took over
- how did he learn to communicate/ become a force ghosts becaues in the first movie he says that he will be more powerful as a ghost
And lastly if anything besides the empire happened?
This show really was just laya gets kidnapped … and that’s pretty much it
_Obi-Wan cuts his Force phone line_
"Why didn't you call me?" Obi-Wan to Qui-Gon
"You weren't ready for a phone call." Qui-Gon
No.
"Continuity should never take precedent over storytelling." = Walls should never take precedent over houses.
@24:29 something to add here is that obi wan right now is supposed to be very weak in the force, a power that helps guide his actions so with this context turns obi wan from a mere reckless jedi to an absolute lunatic
He really just used that outro, what a legend.
Thanks for the vid Madvocate.
the prequels are pretty bad movies, but the prequel era is some of the most exciting star wars storytelling i've ever experienced.
cringe. the prequels are some of the worst movies ever made, this show is mediocre at best. miles apart.
@@lolwhatidk other way around
God, we live in an era where the writing is so bankrupt that even the fucking prequels - the poster child of creative bankruptcy - are considered good with "fantastic" writing in comparison.
@@Ruldolphmaker they do have some fantastic details in there. Overall, very flawed films, but there is good to latch onto. In addition, most of the prequels’ flaws aren’t foundational, whereas with many stories out now, you need a complete reset to get a functional story. There are MANY issues with the prequels, but similar to NWH, there is also a decent amount of good writing within the muck.
For the water scene kenobi used the super speed from the beginning of phantom menace
No, nooooooo!
Your cut to Tuco laughing is brilliant. Keeping the punch in as well is absolutely hilarious.
Best part of Obi Wan Kenobi is when he kills General Grievous in the most gruesome way possible and casually says: So uncivilized.
Can’t wait for the sequel to this video…
Obi-Wan Kenblowmi: It’s Due Time (Part 2)
Y'know, now that I think about it, the whole Leia story could've been a show on it's own, and to give the people extra fan service, they could've made a younger Mando be the hired gun that has to save her.
Just a small nitpick, the jedi robes are designed to look like commoner clothes specifically so they can blend in with the general populace.
@@franklinturtleton6525 They're always nice & clean (except for Obi-Wan after Mustafar) to signify that the Jedi are in decline, they're betraying their principles by living so grandiosely in their ivory tower.
@@2QAYL1138 That's an interesting idea. Never heard that before.
@@enderlord8771 I don't think it's an idea you'd hear from Lucas or Filoni, but to me it's more fun to look for how the story fits together than how it falls apart. All the complaints people have are a slippery slope that easily bleeds into stories they've been less inclined to criticize, if they let it. Generally, if I don't like a story, that means I don't understand it, so I look at it with different lenses or leave it alone.
I might be missing some lore here, but how is Vader talking and breathing at the same time? Does he do that in the originals?
He does yes. The suit is basically an iron lung that breathes for him and his voice is actually nothing but a whisper amplified by the mask
@@yagamifire7861 Thank you! I kinda figured but also thought it would be very funny if he was talking and breathing at the same time. Thank you for being so polite on the internet

17:15 if Vader was written as he normally should be Reva shouldn't know that it's Anakin Skywalker, even TARKIN didn't know for sure who was under the helmet and he was one of the emperor's most trusted people 💀💀
I thought tarkin knew for sure that it was anakin
Only Palpatine and Thrawn knew which is weird how one imperial knew this info
At the risk of writing the show for them, she did encounter Vader after he turned (but before the suit), and people can recognise a familiar presence in the force (as demonstrated when Vader senses Obi-Wan in A New Hope). She could have met Vader and felt the same presence from that day
legend has it he is still working on part 2
28:37
Vader has the ability to sustain himself through the force for limited periods of time.
Vader didn't know Force Ghosts were a thing.
This title is so many tiers above any title for an Obi-Wan video, it's amazing.
@Madvocate, Obi just didn't train cause it's like going solo to a gym, I guess. He wanted Luke to grow up and start together. So he just chills, eat pizza knowing he'll start training again a bit later with Luke.

That tuco scene deserve a gold medal
man it would be so cool to have it be like bcs gene scenes with obi wan and have him reminiscing about the old days while having to remain in hiding. you could have the opportunity to have flashbacks of what wasnt shown in the prequels
Yes kenobi not defending his coworker during the meat job is logical at this point. However its weird that they are meat mining in that way on a desert
"Was there a funeral for continuity and why wasn't I notified?" Great line.
Wojak Vader is my spirit animal
Freck is my spirit animal.
The last jedi wounded my love for star wars... Obi Wan killed it
Always love to see you post
In the Mustafar fight, Vader had Obi-Wan on the back-foot the entire fight. The only reason he lost was because he got overconfident. So, after Obi-Wan getting weaker (or at the very least not stronger), and Vader not only getting stronger, but no longer overconfident, HOW DOES IT MAKE ANY LOGICAL SENSE THAT VADER LOSES THE FINAL FIGHT?!
Your next video must be flash 4, to keep the line alive

If someone kidnaps a Senator's daughter, then that Senator should be sending Republic troops to find her, not making a call to a guy he's not even supposed to know.
59:20 madvocate chill out, Owen was clearly just trying to get an amazing Final Kill Cam.
For example,
Vader is on the verge of defeating kenobi and crushes him under rubble. Presuming kenobi is dead, he leaves. In reality, kenobi used little amounts of force to soften the blow, leaving him unconscious, not dead.
Or
Vader, realizing he can’t win, reminds kenobi that he’s still anakin at heart, causing kenobi to hesitate on the final blow, giving Vader enough time to force choke a surviving civilian.
33:30 Kenobi's not wet because he used Jedi Super Speed.

The fire was near evil so it had no heat
i know this is a relatively old video but in TCW it is shown that obi wan is an incredible marksman, TCW also explains another reason he wouldn't help others which was his time as a slave.
Riva somehow feels like what if a toxic Star Wars stan somehow got transported into the Star Wars universe due to her knowing shit she shouldn't and couldn't have known and also her general attitude toward everything.
34:34 I’ll be frank, they should’ve made him look like a hunchback, since that’s a thing that’s at least plausible, would’ve made a hell of a lot more sense that it almost worked too
Obi wan has Alzheimers.
He probably burried his lightsaber 10‘000 times without noticing. And then he took it home without realizing it.
Disney writing in a nutshell
24:52 you forgot to add the part where Kenblowmi was too dumb to go around that laser gate.
2:08 There are also inquisitors routinely interrogating the people in town. Jedi Fallen Order also established that using the force can lead to others force users quickly finding you
4:51 I know that Star Wars Rebels and The Bad Batch established that the Empire uses chain codes for transport ships, but that’s clearly not the case here on Tatooine
9:53 I know his hood from his robes sort of hides his face, but why not just look different by shaving off your beard or even all your hair so that you’re unrecognizable
55:06 Y’know if you really wanted to keep Leia’s identit a secret you could’ve just kept her a secret from the rest of the world and keep her in your home like Toph Beifong
My take on the adopted parents of Leia is that they are actively trying to lose her and get her killed.
Getting Obi Wan killed is a plus!
How could obi wan just let a jedi be tortured and die. That's fucked up beyond belief. Come on. No amount of sadness would ever let him throw away life like that. That's blatant character assassination
You're right, he wouldn't leave Anakin to die by immolation. Oh wait...
@@2QAYL1138 it´s very funny that you´re doing this comparison in a video where one of the points made is that CONTEXT matters!
If you wanted to watch a good obi wan - vader match, there was that fan fight that extended the episode 4 fight. It was really good for a fan made thing.
Only problem I have is that Kenobi should be able to force unlock the cuffs in the hallway without his hands like you talked about before

I watched 1 episode and left it immediately. The productions didn't seem on todays standart (especially the lighting in some scenes) and some scenes were so goofy, like the scene where leya manages to run away from 3 adult creatures for 10 minutes and the adults constantly tripping and falling over anything they see in their path like it was a cartoon.

Kenobi thought he killed Anakin, so it wouldn’t be impossible for Palpatine to name someone else Vader, especially since Kenobi has no proof he’s still alive.
