That "Shredder Blade" is made so it can be flipped over for new edge, but a regular Belt Sander will sharpen it up good IF needed. Thanks for the Video
Very nice video with great content. I actually have an MTD shreader that I just picked up from an estate sale for a song and watched your video to address a few of my questions. Once again, nice video.
@@graybeardgarage9638 Gray Beard - did you happen to have a parts list for the shredder in regard to blades and shredder bars? I have a similar unit as yours with the leaf shredder box that tilts. Thanks so much for your video!
Great video with really helpful descriptions, I have had my used chipper for years and hardly use it as it doesn't cut well. Now I figure I can get it apart and sharpen the blades.
I’ve tried watching this on two different devices and right about the 21 minute mark the picture freezes. Before that it was getting glitchy. Wondered if you could check to confirm video is good from your end and that it’s a problem on my end or RUclips. Thanks
I removed the plug even safer as the rubber has a memory and trying to return and they do sometimes also rotation of blades are easy and safer no kickback
I sharpened then refastened the blade he is holding at 10:06. I tightened it pretty hard with a rachet. Then I replaced the 13 bolts around the shroud. Then I remembered that I forgot to torque it to 375 lbs which I read somewhere. I presume it would tend to tighten more, not less, as it turns ?
would you know what will stop the chipper to slow down when you try chipping? worked good two days ago, went to finish last night and it spins but stops under load.
@@graybeardgarage9638 Mine is the 8hp... I believe. but I can't find any videos on those types. was hoping it was ran by belt and the belt just needed swapped.. Not sure what happened. it ran good the one day, the next i went to finish and it spins full throttled, but when i place a load in the chipper slows to a stop. Thank you.
My 8hp is belt driven. If you have the model with the clutch handle it enables the machine to start without a load. That being said, my belt or clutch failed years ago so I bypassed it avg connected it straight to the engine. It's harder to crank but that eliminated the issue I had when that part broke.
MATT i am trying to rebuild a craftsman vac. shredder 95 model but i cannot find parts to rebuild motor 9hp TECH> can you advise me of a dealer for older parts?
I found mine on Amazon. I would check on a harbor freight engine as a replacement. If the output shaft is the same it might be a good option. Also check marketplace you might find a used one out there.
I have a problem at 6:44 That blade is mounted to the Impeller Assembly with two additional T30 hex screws to a lock nuts. That lock nut is facing the Impeller Assembly and after several attempts to get the nut and bolt off, I cannot get it off to grind, fix, or replace it. Would I need to remove that blade in order to remove the Impeller Assembly? ruclips.net/video/oLpO2rEoAcQ/видео.html Also, where can I go to get parts to replace muffler and various parts on the engine?
I think what might work would be a box end wrench for the nuts on the bottom then your torx on top. If you want to remove the whole impeller, they make a removal tool for $20/$30 that's just a longer bolt with a long pin attached that threads into that center hole.

That’s good information for sure. I’ll keep that in mind.

Thank you for the kind comments. They are basically the same machine

@@rongray4118 I don’t have the list but they were MTD parts. They are all over Amazon.

It’s a lot easier than I made it look. If I can do it anyone can do it.
Leading and trailing edge? No they are both leaking edges, the blade is reversible.
Thanks for the information. Makes sense.
Keep up the great content!
Thanks for checking it out

I just checked and it is glitching for sure. I will have to look into this. Thanks for letting me know.
Yup still doing it
It's still frozen at that location. Like listening to the radio explaining a Kaleidescape unfortunately. Great up to that point though!

Thank you this helped alot
I’m glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!

Yes it should tighten as it runs
The blade is reversible that is why it has an edge on both faces
you should be wearing your steel toed flip flops
You are so right. It’s a bad habit wearing those all the time. They are the foot wear of choice in Florida
Is there any chance you have a picture of the spring placement at the bottom of the machine for the throttle linkage I can't find any info on it
Hey Matt can you show correct placement of throttle spring for chipper when putting a new spring on
I’ll have to dig it out of the shed. I’ll see what I can do
@@graybeardgarage9638 ok or just a picture
Part numbers?
The video stop showing the carburetor removal
Sorry about that. I am in the process of remaking this
How do I remove the engine from the chipper housing and blades
I did not have to pull the engine. I think there is a single bolt that holds the blade assembly in the motor shaft.
would you know what will stop the chipper to slow down when you try chipping? worked good two days ago, went to finish last night and it spins but stops under load.
If it isn’t running full throttle that could cause it to bog down and die

I think they are all direct drive

are they belt driven?
They are direct drive right off the engine
I really thought you would have removed the spark plug wire for safety!!! SMH
The wire was pulled off but it was so stiff from old age that it kept sitting back down on the top of the plug. Thanks for your safety tip!
Video stops at filter touch.
Thanks for letting me know. I am probably going to do another video featuring this
