The only album I could listen to through its entirety every day for my whole life. Not one day has gone by since 1991 I haven't listened to at least one of the tracks of this album.
Those who study and read music have always said the way Eddie sings, especially this song, is like how jazz players play their instruments. Look in to it, I can't explain it.
In a documentary about the suicide some of his former classmates were interviewed and asked about the song and some felt angry at the making of the song because they felt it was not fully accurate. I personally believe they didn’t like the accusations of bullying because it made his classmates feel guilty about his death
This song/video were HUGE when it came out. Back when MTV was MTV and showing music videos. Geoff Tate, the singer of Queensryche said that when he first heard it/saw it, he cried. I'm sure many others did also.
I was one of those kids that got bullied like this but my mom and dad loved me very much and been together for almost 40 years but the teachers was always on bullies side and I took the punishment for retaliating. The 90’s truly was the dark ages. I remember I was in the 7th grade and I started dealing with health issues such as constant constipation always needed to use the restroom and the teacher wouldn’t let me so I ruined my clothes and got bullied for that too and I still have that problem to this day. I wish I knew what is wrong with me but even the doctors don’t know cause they can’t find anything. I hated my life growing up but I was strong enough to deal with it. I’m an adult now, i’m 34 and life couldn’t be better in the aspect that i’m engaged I gotta great paying job and my fiancee works where I work and we own our house. I thank the lord every day for that. Good things will happen just gotta be patient.
My cousin sent me this album in the mail before it was released. I thought this is pretty great...good luck with it cousin Eddie...little did I know...

Probably you wont read it... but as a Pearl Jam listener from very early times back in 1992 there are many recommended songs that have very melodic rock sounds. "Rearviewmirror" - one of the greatest hits of them - I suggest the live version from the PinkPop in 2000 (open air in netherlands). "Given to fly" - maybe the greatest song of them - check out the live from 2000 with the title "Given to Fly - Pearl Jam - 07 Touring Band 2000 - Live" cause you can see a very nice behaviour by Eddie. Further songs I really would recommend of this band: "Insignificance" - "release" - "corduroy" - "better man" - "glorified G" and many more. For great joy in Lex's ears try out "not for you" - especially in the live performance in the SNL show from 1994. A lot distortion in his voice :)
This is absolutely my favorite Pearl Jam song. In fact, this whole album is perfection. To me, it's their most poignant album. Since you know the backstory of this, I should also note that the parents of Jeremy said that Eddie Vedder never spoke to them about anything to get his inspiration. They said they didn't appreciate him painting them as bad parents because it gave a false picture of their family dynamic. They said they were harrassed by strangers and got death threats. And dealing with all that, plus just losing their son.
Im glad someone posted this. Pearl Jam never reached out to Jeremys parents. Apparently Jeremy had a good home life from what I read the parents said. I can't imagine having a song done about my child killing themselves, and have to bear the pain of losing them and then relive it deeply when they hear this song..lord the pain they feel 😢
On the bacon grease, my great grandma used to always save the bacon grease in jars and use it to make gravy. People always said it was a southern thing, but my great grandparents were Native American and on west coast.
No. So, finally, after him, the story teller, the singer, picking on Jeremy, he finally lashed out and hit him with a surprise left. "We unleashed the Lion" he had fuckin enough! Lol. Freakin fantastic, powerful song. Glad I finally saw the video. Loved you guys rockin out to it.
I just discovered you guys and really enjoy watching. If you haven’t already done a reaction for the Pearl Jam song Do the Evolution I highly recommend you do but watching the official video is a must for that one! It’s a harder/faster song and a pretty scathing social/political commentary.

@@javalily true. and that's a shame. missing some of their best work. like "release me" at the end of "ten". best song on the album imo. not once reacted to or even played on the radio for that matter
FUN FACT- The edited version of this video ( which is what was primarily played on MTV and MUCH MUSIC in Canada) cut out many scenes including the gun at the end. The editing by the record company was the primary reason why PEARL JAM suddenly stopped making music videos during the prime years of their success. The group was so upset that the main message of the song was edited out of the video. It wasn't until many albums later that they finally did another music video. Keep smiling 🤘 🙂
Actually Jeremy's parents did not neglect him. He had underlying depression and was marginalized by his classmates and at the same time unrequited love. Very hard for many teens. Those parents have to live with the loss and represented falsely as neglectful. Parents are not given a handbook...just remember they have to live with such a public loss of a child they loved.
*BRAVO PEARL JAM* 👏🖤 So many kids have to endure torment at school by 'bullies', or have to live in an abusive home daily, whilst waiting for the 'next time', constantly in fear. How many 'Jeremys' are out there, waiting for help? I was one.....yet those who looked the other way, could've helped, but didn't. So many people in the comments are telling of their own hellish childhoods. When will it ever stop?
Pearl Jam drew attention to this almost 30 yrs ago, but things are still the same. The uncensored video and the true background of this song should be shown in schools - to kids and teachers alike. Don't look away - instead SPEAK UP if a kid needs help, at school or at home! Stop the cycle of abuse. Peace & love to those that grew up in fear and abuse☮️

AMEN!!! Hold on... it really does get better!!
You two keep reacting to such good music. Never dissapointed.
Request please
Melvins - Revolve
If Lex loves grunge she should listen to the father of it.
Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter might be a song to listen to next. Kinda fits this theme for me
I saw them play in April of 92 at the Cameo right on Washington St. in South Beach. Even Flow was just hitting the charts but it was before they got really big. It was less than $15 to see them that night. What a show!
OK, so this is one of the reasons why I love this. Lex is smiling and dancing blissfully unaware of the horror that’s getting ready to take place. You too are so upbeat, makes me smile. Thank you for taking us on this ride. Eddie Vedder is one of the greatest storytellers in music. He can take you to a whole different place.
This song was based on a true story that Eddie read about a 15 year old kid that shot himself in front of his English class.
That's so funny. When you said it was COOL bacon grease it just clicked with me. Yes totally agree now. :D
The whole album is insane! Would love to see you guys react to even flow though! Either the unplugged or the official video! One of my favourite songs of theirs ❤️
This is one of Pearl Jam's most powerful songs. I love the Lex is totally into Pearl Jam.
Brad & Lex , I loved your reactions! Greetings from Brazil
😃 Omg, Lex imitating Eddie Vedder’s singing style is enough to carry me thru the rest of the week, y’all 😂
You guys are having a good week. Love the song choices.
Every so often there's a music video that you just have to watch and this is one of them. Amazing song and amazing music video!!
The only album I could listen to through its entirety every day for my whole life. Not one day has gone by since 1991 I haven't listened to at least one of the tracks of this album.
Love when you guys cover Pearl Jam. They are so good.
P.S. I miss ya'll's reactions SO MUCH! Dad-burned SHAME....was a daily joy of mine to watch you-guys.... HUGS!
Those who study and read music have always said the way Eddie sings, especially this song, is like how jazz players play their instruments. Look in to it, I can't explain it.
When lyrics and sound combine. I love the perspective of both Brad and Lex adding to each other in this reaction
Jeremy spoke in class today. When I found out what it meant after having heard the song a bunch of times. At basically the age Jeremy was too.
After hearing him say he knew what was coming explained a lot. She was bopping along and he was in deep despair.
One of my favorite pearl jam songs.
So cool to see you both transfixed, right in the song....
Lex, have you a singing background? I see you anticipate notes and harmonies....
My cousin sent me this album in the mail before it was released. I thought this is pretty great...good luck with it cousin Eddie...little did I know...
It's a powerful song I choke up everytime I listen to this song. There is nothing wrong likeing this song It's sends out a real message that goes on everyday in out schools in our social media.
Love, love Eddies voice. His live version of Black is phenomenal!!
Thanks for playing this!
it's easy to remember peoples names when they deeply affect you, whether in a positive or a negative way... as often as it's said it's always worth repeating - music is food for the soul so musicians who feed us sumptuous delights deserve to be remembered and celebrated Respect & Peace
Another solid breakdown and reaction, y'all!!
On the verge of 100k subs. Way to go guys!!
Further songs I really would recommend of this band:
"Insignificance" - "release" - "corduroy" - "better man" - "glorified G" and many more.
For great joy in Lex's ears try out "not for you" - especially in the live performance in the SNL show from 1994. A lot distortion in his voice :)
Congrats on 100k!!!
Thanks Thomas 🙏🏽!!
Also love that you both are into this song
I can't imagine having a song done about my child killing themselves, and have to bear the pain of losing them and then relive it deeply when they hear this song..lord the pain they feel 😢
that is something not published, very sad.
Oh wow! This one takes me back. It sure was popular back in that time. It was a sad song really, based off a true story.
"The child who is not embraced by the village, will grow up to burn it down to feel its warmth."
RIP Jeremy
I love when Lex smiles at the beginning of a video and then is like.. "oh...."
I"m not even close to being a Pearl Jam fan, but this is definitely an important song and I'm glad you listened to it.
Great reaction! Throwin' this out there, Smooth up in you by Bulletboys.
You guys should not forget to try the band “Faith no more” same era!! start with midlife crises or falling to pieces…
The live version of midlife crisis on Jay Leno😘👌.
And EPIC
Surprise your dead, a banger of a song by FNM. It's my alarm song that wakes me up for work every morning and I'm never late !
I just discovered you guys and really enjoy watching. If you haven’t already done a reaction for the Pearl Jam song Do the Evolution I highly recommend you do but watching the official video is a must for that one! It’s a harder/faster song and a pretty scathing social/political commentary.
Lol this song brings back memories for me especially...In H.S I remember riding bus for football game and entire bus singing to me and coaches saying Jeremy's SMOKING POT TODAY....LMFAO
I love this song , but it's as about as tragic as they come; while still being awesome, and simultaneously breaking your heart.
Check out "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town" for a different sound and perspective on this AMAZING band
@@javalily true. and that's a shame. missing some of their best work. like "release me" at the end of "ten". best song on the album imo. not once reacted to or even played on the radio for that matter
You got there. It was a bit awkward watching you smile and love it. We knew what was coming. Pearl Jam is one of the best
Lex has got the music in her. I can tell. She just gets it. From rap to rock
Based off the Jeremy Delle story as well as an experience Eddie had in his school where some kid shot up a class room
I don't know how many times I have seen the video but it is always a gut punch.
Art represents reality sadly. God bless those children without a voice. Nothing more tragic. Tears every time I watch this video.
On that note ( A Prefect circle ,Three Libras)😎
Oh boy I was 20 something when this came out. Fell in love immediately.
Pearl Jam is my favorite band!🤘
99.9 K. Congrats guys. You deserve it.
🙏🏽❤️ love y’all thank you!
This shyt still makes me cry when you break it down.
