Good of you to pick up on the Northern European influences in the series, especially Nordic & Germanic tales. All of the character names and most place names are German words, and act as first impressions:
Frieren - freezing, frozen
Fern - far
Flamme - fire, flame
Heiter - laughing, laughter
Eisen - Iron
and
Himmel - Heaven.

The Manga is still going well its long enough for another 28 episodes already. It takes them years to get to the north and even if months pass between significant events, events that take several episodes to deal with, they still have a long way to go after the first 28 episodes season.
