    4:53 Im so glad you mentioned this in videos I don't even know how long ago at this point. I wasn't aware of flood mode before I started watching your videos a few years back. It is THE way to do it if you can't prefill the oil filter or don't want to and you still get solid oil pressure on the first start after an oil change.

    Been using Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra Platinum last 10yrs+ on all our newer expensive Ford & Lincoln vehicles. I'm impressed w/formulation of Valvolines new full synthetic line up too tho. We prob splitting hairs w/all these top tier oils. Fords excellent, proven gen2 GTDI engines require just good consistent basic maintenance & will give ya 300k mis. Engineering pt of view. Oil changes every 5-6k mis max + tranny fluid 50k mis max + coolant flush every 40k mis max. Also try to run top tier rated fuels folks. All major automakers recommend/lobby for em. A clean engine is an efficient & long lasting engine. 💯

    Hmm interesting new oil from Valvoline. Also really like the catch can sample test idea. I always just dump my catch can in my used oil container every couple thousand miles in the summer and about 500-1000 miles in the winter. It's never half or more full but I really don't want it to fill up and dump oil into the intake. Thanks for the video!!

    As much as I subbed and recommend your channel because of the work and research you put into the technical aspect of your vids? I even watch the vids on engines I don't have or your unrelated personal content ie current events and your honeymoon etc. Just to support the channel as much as I can right now helping it grow.
    Good man in an increasingly F'd up world. You and Makoloco are my go to Ford guys. You and Project Project Farm are my go to product assesment guys. Others out there I like supporting as well. Wrenching with Kenny. Eric the Car Guy and others. Comment sections are invaluable for picking up tips as well. Forums tend to degrade into bitchy knitting circles over any topic rapidly. Good example the Fumoto etc oil drain valves. Nice if they actually worked but leaving 1/2 L of used oil in the crankcase defeats the purpose of a change. Fully intend to start supporting this channel with a paid membership or buying merch and advertizing it asap. Canada is just as nuts right now...

There was a massive pool of oil sitting underneath of the throttle body. The rest of the intake manifold was a gooey mess. The pool looked like such perfectly clean engine oil.
      Anyway, I installed a catch can in hopes of reducing that stuff headed to the combustion chambers. What I’m getting in the OCC is different than the pool. It’s obviously trapping engine oil, water and some gasoline. I expected it to catch exactly what was in that pool underneath the throttle body, but am getting extra items as well. Keep in mind an elemental oil analysis is just that, an analysis of the known common elements, additives & wear elements. So trying to compare oils on their percentages of additive elements isn't necessarily definitive of how well an oil works, ok. Because we still don't know the true nano makeup of oils, and thats what makes or breaks them in their real world performance. There is a new nano synthetic, i forget its name, but it is still in its early stages of testing formulation & release. I believe It is a full PAO base and shows pretty much 0, zero, elements on its oil analysis! Except for some high tech form of copper olite i think it was. It has been shown to work very well so far. So this may get interesting!

    Hey Rich, as a tech i dont believe in a bunch of additives but i do believe in Seafoam motor treatment. I use it in the fuel of my f 150 5.0 occasionally and all my small motors at begining and end of the season. I also put it in my wifes f150 4.6 in the engine oil a few days before oil change. It actually did reduce oil consumption, i guess it did clean sludge at oil control rings. Highly recommend Seafoam motor treatment

On my 7.3L diesel the filter is like 1/2 qt oil to fill so this help it fill quicker .. on smaller filters it can be not a big thing but I still like to just put some oil in if possible depending on the angles of filter.. some like 2005 elantra are at a bit of angle.. Just so you know, not all cars have "flood mode." Before I serviced my wife's 4th-gen 2.4L CR-V, I went for a drive, then as soon as I stopped, I switched it off and did the "flood mode" thing and found that it started instantly and the revs were already over 4000RPM before I was off the pedal (and I got off it extremely quickly).
    Moral of the story: if possible to do so and install it without spilling oil everywhere, DO fill the oil filter, and DO NOT just rely on "flood mode" (which might not be there) because that could be the fastest way to destroy your engine, thinking you're priming the oil galleries.

      No! Did you really put auto oil in your bike? The friction modifiers in automotive oils are known to be hard on the wet clutchs in bikes, it might start slipping. And it really isn't formulated for hot running air cooled engines either. I use Amsoil's motorcycle oils in my Vic. Currently running the 15W50 metric motorcycle oil in it. I have used their 20W40 & 15W60 V Twin oils in mine and they've been good, but haven't tried the 20W50 V Twin oil as of yet. I'd check Valvoline's FAQ about Restore & Protect. If I recall correctly they claim it's good for All vehicles new or old that use API SP/6A. It isn't Dexos Rated so if using on a GM vehicle that "requires" Dexos for Warranty... You may want to wait (they recommend using Advanced, if you want Dexos1 rated Oil) until Warranty is up. Per a recent R&P review video discussing how Oil is constantly battling carbon deposits and seems like R&P use would be recommended any/all the time. Been reading how people are thinking of cycling between several R&P changes then going to their regular Oil(s) and swapping back and forth as needed... To keep things "clean"

    • @ZWortek
      @ZWortek 4 месяца назад +4

      It's good for any mileage really. If the engine is new or relatively clean then it should keep it as clean as possible, but if it's dirty it should clean it up within a few oil changes. There is also a more hardcore version that Valvoline made for Cummins (premium blue restore) that will really clean a dirty engine like crazy but it's super expensive and you actually have to worry about clogging the filter up with contaminants that are cleaned off by the oil. Valvoline restore and protect was made to be more forgiving and consumer friendly so that's why it takes 4 oil changes to reduce the risk of clogging up the filter too fast.

    • @lgoamity
      @lgoamity 4 месяца назад +1

    • @ZWortek
      @ZWortek 4 месяца назад +4

      His thoughts for the past few years have been that you should use flood mode or equivalent if your car has it. Basically a way to crank the engine without combustion so that the system primes the oil filter before the real first start to prevent turning the engine over with ignition while there is basically no oil pressure because that causes some extra wear that you can prevent. If your car doesn't have clear flood mode or equivalent then you prefill your oil filter as much as you can.
      Basically you can do one or the other, the thing that matters is that the oil filter is full (ideally) before the engine starts up with ignition for the first time after an oil change.
