I remember hearing the story of Prince calling Mark at THE WAY. Everyone was so excited for Mark. I remember seeing Mark for the first time perform at The Aquatennial Festival / Phyllis Wheatley with the Phantasy Band. All of the veteran musicians from the Twin Cities were highly impressed. Maurice Stephens (RIP) said I SAW THIS BOY PERFORM AND HE WAS A MONSTER.
Mazarati was funky as a MUTHA!! Read BrownMarks' book and was really disappointed in how he was treated in the Purple world. Wish you the best now. And you threw down on the "1999" Tour in '83 (saw ya'll in the Bay) even though you were kinda in the shadows.Real mugs knew you were funky!
Mark's favorite bass players when he started playing were pretty much my favorites when I started playing!!! He has a very interesting story and I am definitely buying his book. Anyone who was able to play for Prince, one of the most gifted multi-instrumentalists ever, had to be great and confident in their abilities. Mark killed it on bass!!! Mazarati was an incredible band with a PHENOMENAL BASS PLAYER whose name escapes me!!! "We don't practice, we rehearse". That's an AWESOME perspective! The way that Prince shook Mark's bass playing is a fascinating story!!!
I was at the Coliseum too with a group of people who had graduated high school in 1980. What was so weird was what before Prince came on, they played over the intercom (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Hendrix etc) … and then Prince came on and played a danceable style that combined the rock and roll feel - and the crowd rejected him within a few songs! I remember back then that you were either into disco or rock… and if you ever showed signs of disco, you would be labeled “‘gay” or whatever stupid words came up with. And here was Prince combining the two… or three.. and this So-called rebel crowd couldn’t handle it. It’s true that what performers wore on stage was always big news back then. Now it’s nothing! It all came together when Prince… far ahead of his time, busted those people by being capable of bringing it all together. To me, Prince is… and I mean IS… still a major influence for musicians and artists of all kinds. Without a doubt he is still the Mozart of our time (echoing Mark). Thank you for doing these videos… and for the knowledge gained by the exposure of these great artists like Mark!
@@FunknstuffNet Well I'll tell you that when I got the ticket I wasn't necessarily a Prince fan, but I ended up being one of his greatest supporters after that event happened. I had always been huge Beatles fan... and Lennon passed away about a year before. So I thought that the Stones might be a second best concert to see. I didn't care about seeing George Thorogood or the J.Geils Band perform. But I didn't have anything going on that day and so I went. The critic named Robert Hilburn had an article in the LA Times talking about Prince... so again, I thought the event was worth checking out. I do remember the place smelling like pot. The 5 of us were way up in the stands to the stage right. We were so high up, we had to use binoculars to see them. When the things started to fly at the band, I was hugely disappointed in humanity. But I felt the complete opposite of Prince (and his bandmates) showing that they deserve all the credit in the world for facing such adversity... and in the end, for years, creating even better music than any that were on the top of the bill for that day!
So Prince assaulted him... man these stories just make me lose more and more respect for Prince. The guy was a musical genius, but as a human being he was pretty bad.
I'm just as disgusted as you, my friend. I can't believe what I'm hearing right now. Who the hell did he think he was? I'm getting the feeling these other people aren't being completely honest about the things he put them through to not be rejected by his fans. If they don't like what you have to say about their hero they won't buy your books, I guess. Shameful.
I wonder if there were any witnesses of Mark being kicked by Prince and what they thought. Or of Mark curling one hair on his head at a time and getting done in only three hours. Kinda hard to believe for me for some reason.
Ehhhhhh I don’t know mark. That’s not what you said in a interview a few years ago. You said you got your name... because prince was making fun of your skin complexion. Became everyone in the band was lighter then you. So he said you was the “brown mark” of the group. Because you was the darkest. I feel where you coming from. But the guy was just that... a guy! Don’t hold back the truth. But you definitely said he clown you in front of the band and they all was laughing . And he said your the “brown mark” of the group.

You are so right, great to hear from someone else who was a Prince fan in that audience like me!

We were also stage right in the stands, maybe halfway down the field.

Love BrownMark 💜💜💜💜💜💜👏👏👍👍👍💜💜💜
Loved it! THANX!
That intro is FUNKY!!!
Prince = Pai Mei, Brown Mark = The Bride. Brown Mark is Baaaaad.
Kirk Johnson interview would be interesting. Actually Tony Mosely made be easier to reach
Will make a run at him.
Kirk's lawyer has advised him to keep his trap shut, because Prince fanatics refuse to believe that was Prince suicidal and hooked on drugs.
Would love a Tony M interview
Think so? I've wondered.
Wow !
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I like how when everyone speak in Prince voice, they use his stammering before he speak.
Mark looks really hot with glasses and a goatee. 😍

Dude's real name is Mark Brown. Prince didn't pull BrownMark out of thin air.
