The damn guitar solo in Iotunn's Mistland is my absolute favorite music moment of 2024. It gives me goosebumps everywhere and every time. Kinship as a whole might even become my AOTY as it stands.
Okay, after seeing this I picked up the Iotunn album, and it is absolutely stellar. Epic, emotional, and tons interesting layers to the music. Also, the vocal performance is top notch....the quality of clean vocals is a make or break item with me - IF you are going to use them, they had better be good: they will either sabotage the entire experience, or, as is the case for this album, elevate the music beyond what you can do with growls only. Love it, love it, love it!
This is my top 10 for October: 01 - The Crown - Crown of Thorns 02 - Iotunn - Kinship 03 - Cemetery Skyline - Nordic Gothic 04 - Infern - Turn of the Tide 05 - Ensiferum - Winter Storm 06 - Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere 07 - Livløs - The Crescent King 08 - Seid - Hymns To The Norse 09 - Aiwaz - Darrkh… It Is! 10 - Abramelin - Sins of the Father and 5 honorable mentions in no specific order: Barathrum - Überkill 1349 - The Wolf & The King The Spirit - Songs Against Humanity Gaerea - Coma Paragon - Metalation
Bloody hell, I finally received my ordered cd of Iotunn's release "Kinship" and it is a total banger...Jon Aldára has the most amazing vocals. Think it might be my AOTY competing with the Borknagar album
Excellent month! Wow, I missed some of these, thanks for the round-up. On my list of excellent albums are Gaerea's Coma, Blood Incantation's Absolute Elsewhere, and Schammasch's The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean.
Iotunn is pronounced Yo-ton like saying yo to something that weighs 2000 pounds lol. Or just like in Nordic mythology (where it orignates from lol). There is a video on YT of one of the band members pronouncing the band's name so that's why I know lol. Great list though as always. Lot of great albums this October. I would like to give some love to Swallow The Sun as well. May not be their best album but it by no means disappoints. Also i'd give the Fit For An Autopsy album a spin as well. Not sure how big of a deathcore fan you guys are, but it is worth your time.
Thanks for showcasing 2 bands from my country (Portugal), really advise to listen the previous albuns of Sinistro, it was another vocalist and for me even more emotive. Her voice was simply amazing.
Cracking month of metal. My picks. 1. Blood Incantation - Absolute Everywhere (progressive psychedelic death metal) 2. Sylosis - The Path (groove metal) 3. Kozoria - The Source (progressive melodeath) 4. Jerry Cantrell - I Want Blood (alt metal/grunge) 5. Devin Townsend - Powernerd (progressive alt metal) 6. Iotunn - Kinship (progressive epic melodeath) 7. Fit For An Autopsy - The Nothing That Is (deathcore/groove metal).
Once again, great show guys! Two of your mentions are going to be on my end of year best albums list. They are "Gaerea - Coma" and "Iotunn - Kinship", two awesome killer albums. Gotta check out "Cemetery Skyline - Nordic Gothic" and "Sinistro - Vértice". There is another album that I really like from this month and maybe you guys should check it out as well. It's the Swiss band "Schammasch" with their album "The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean". Keep on Rockin guys and thanks! 🤘🤘
A great month of metal (at least three or four albums you highlighted which escaped me). Master Boot Record - Hardwarez Doedsmaghird - Omniverse Consciousness
Love how much you dudes enjoy different metal than me and show me some bands to check out. I love the new Blood incantation but my album of the month was Undeath they really are the leaders in Modern Death Metal right now.
I didn't realize how stacked this month was. I'm sure there are a ton of others I am missing. I was surprised DV is getting so much attention. I really liked their back catalog and they have been criminally slept on. Thanks for bringing up Cosmic Putrefaction, I missed that one, and recalled previously releases fondly. Honorable mentions: Immortal Bird, Oranssi Pazuzu, Ashen Tomb, Grand Magus, and more I am forgetting I am sure.
I have 5 of those albums on vinyl so I take that as a solid indication that I am not straggling behind the times like I used to do! Still, Sinistro was a complete unknown to me and AMAZING so I'll never stop tuning in to these best ofs! Two more albums I got in October were Carnosus and Schammasch!
Blood incantation Gaerea LIVLØS Devinial verdict IOTUNN. ❤ fantastic. Did you guys end up checking out Dawn Treader - bloom and decay?! Was back in august but didn’t get much attention.. which is criminal, it’s one of my favourites of the year ❤
Even I'm Portuguese and I didn't know Sinistro... When you played that first segment of their song it sounded like she was singing fado. It kind of makes sense that fado vibe mixed with doom, being that fado is all about melancholy, sorrow and pain.
Many fine picks, gentlemen! 👍 Two albums, I personally would have included: Gigan: 'Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus' .. a total mindf*uck of cosmic tech death mastery! Ataxaxie: 'Le Declin'.. quite possibly the HEAVIEST album of the year!
That Devenial Verdict album is awesome! While it may not be as diverse as Blood Incantation, its atmosphere combined with the more OSDM-style vocals just *works* for me. Gaerea's new one was really good, too; their new vocalist is solid, even if I do miss the old guy's more emotional screams. Can't wait to see Gaerea open up for Zeal & Ardor near the end of November!
So proud to see two portuguese bands between the best of the month, two amazing records 🤘 Give Phenocryst - Cremation Pyre and Vøidwomb - Spiritual Apotheosis a spin too, hope you guys enjoy them. Cheers 🤘
Most insane release month of the year, so much elite stuff. Blood Incantation and Gaerea are my frontrunners for AOTY, and Mother of Graves is phenomenal too. Besides this killer list, I'd also add: Black Curse - Burning in Celestial Poison Undeath - More Insane Maul - In the Jaws of Bereavement Immortal Bird - Sin Querencia Better Lovers - Highly Irresponsible Gigan - Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus Lowen - Do Not Go To War With The Demons Of Mazandaran Silhouette - Les Dires de l'Âme Feral - To Usurp the Thrones I'm probably missing a bunch too. Also, for early November headliner, the new Mitonchondrian album is a MONSTER
What a kickass month October has been for metal. Definitely some albums I missed or have to give more spins but here are my favorites of the month. 1. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere (atmospheric death metal/progressive death metal/progressive rock) 2. Cemetery Skyline - Nordic Gothic (gothic rock/deathrock/melodic doom metal) 3. Chat Pile - Cool World (noise rock/sludge metal) 4. Mother of Graves - The Periapt of Absence (melodic death-doom) 5. Silhouette - Les Dires de l'Âme (atmospheric post-black metal) 6. Cosmic Putrefaction - Emerald Fires Atop The Farewell Mountains (atmospheric death metal) 7. Lowen - Do Not Go To War With The Demons Of Mazandaran (progressive doom metal) 8. Harsh Realm - Death Carries On (death metal/ambient) 9. Better Lovers - Highly Irresponsible (mathcore/metalcore/alternative metal) 10. Fit For An Autopsy - The Nothing That Is (post-deathcore/melodic death metal)
Great to see Devenial Verdict and Cosmic Putrefaction getting love from a channel. I loved their last albums and love these 2 even more. Here's some awesome albums you might've missed... Living Gate*** Immortal Bird* Carnosus The Mist From The Mountains Schammasch Fit For An Autopsy Black Curse The Spirit Gigan** Better Lovers Ataraxie* Undeath*** Oranssi Pazuzu
One that I discovered through Banger TV was Hardwarez from Master Boot Record. Old school video game synth music mixed with heavy metal. Very cool stuff.
I loved the new Blood Incantation, Gaerea, and Funeral albums. Some more favorite albums of October 2024 of mine would be: Undeath - More Insane Chat Pile - Cool World Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja Ensiferum - Winter Storm Immortal Bird - Sin Querencia Grand Magus - Sunraven Fit for an Autopsy - The Nothing That Is Devin Townsend - PowerNerd Schammasch - The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean Gigan - Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus Black Curse - Burning in Celestial Poison Sentient Horror - In Service of the Dead
Oct was an amazing month Fit For An Autopsy - the nothing that is Blood Incantation - absolute elsewhere Oranssi Pazuzu - muuntautuja Gaerea - coma Lowen - do not go to war with the demons of mazandaran Entheos - an end to everything (ep)
That funeral album was disappointing to me as it as mostly abandoned funeral doom for the goth and opera singing started to drain me around the halfway mark
Fantastic list! My surprise hit is Feral, “To Usurp the Thrones”-every year, Transcending Obscurity is able to exemplify their label name with releases like this, a band totally unknown to me-and one I would most likely never find unless y’all recommended it-that just knocks me TF out and takes a stranglehold on my rotation. Top shelf Swedish Death Metal #Chainsawwwwwww Definitely check it out! \m/@@\m/
That Feral record is a beast. Transcending Obscurity had a stellar Oct, with Devenial Verdict and Hell is Other People also. And Veilburner just around the corner
It was such a stellar run to kick off the 4th quarter of the year. Had all three on heavy rotation. The singles got me hyped up for Hell is Other People, and after Ash Blind, I’ve been hungry for Devenial Verdict’s follow up, but I knew nothing of Feral until they melted my face
@ProriffsorMetalben Feral's other Transcending Obscurity release, "Flesh For Funerals Eternal", is a stomper too, highly recommend. TO has to be one of the most reliable labels out there
My favorite metal album of October is Lowen's _Do Not Go To War With the Demons of Manzandaran_ My favorite metal albums of the year so far are Weston Super Maim's _See You Tomorrow Baby_
Definitely more polished than any of their other albums. Drumming at times sounds like drum machine. But I still say they are in my top 5 I love the band.
Thank you guys for including us in your list! Glad you enjoyed the record. - Brandon (MOG)
Thanks to you I discovered Iotunn. I love the new album! Cheers!
The damn guitar solo in Iotunn's Mistland is my absolute favorite music moment of 2024. It gives me goosebumps everywhere and every time. Kinship as a whole might even become my AOTY as it stands.
Thank you so much! Appreciate the kind words!
Fall in New England has been the best backdrop to your record spins. Nice work fellas. 🤘
IOTUNN is quickly shaping up to be my metal AOTY. Masterpiece.
Iottun album is amazing❤
Yeeepppp
Amazing is not enough 😅
Okay, after seeing this I picked up the Iotunn album, and it is absolutely stellar. Epic, emotional, and tons interesting layers to the music. Bloody hell, I finally received my ordered cd of Iotunn's release "Kinship" and it is a total banger...Jon Aldára has the most amazing vocals. Think it might be my AOTY competing with the Borknagar album
Iotunn and Blood Incantation are currently vying it out for my AOTY!
So good!!
The best of the year. Both did awesome.
Iotunn is insane. Gaerea is something special, too. The new Tribulation just landed too.
Lots of amazing stuff for October.
What an awesome month of metal. Gaerea, Blood Incantation, Mother of Graves, IOTUNN, Escuela Grind, Oryx, Black Curse... Hell yeah!
Excellent month! Wow, I missed some of these, thanks for the round-up. On my list of excellent albums are Gaerea's Coma, Blood Incantation's Absolute Elsewhere, and Schammasch's The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean.
Such amazing stuff from this year!
🔥🔥🔥
Wait to be in your fifties and iotunn resonates even more 😅
I'd never heard of Blood Incantation before, but I tried this album randomly and I was absolutely FLOORED. So good!
That Gaerea album sounds pretty amazing. Wow.
Mother of Graves and Blood Incantation were big favourites for October but my big October release was the new Immortal Bird. Freaking love the album.
Iotunn is pronounced Yo-ton like saying yo to something that weighs 2000 pounds lol. Or just like in Nordic mythology (where it orignates from lol). There is a video on YT of one of the band members pronouncing the band's name so that's why I know lol.

Great picks!!
Funeral was a suprice to me too.Very interesting.SOunds awesome!
Yeah Funeral is really great!
This month was especially stacked. Insane releases.
Seriously!n
Gaerea and Iotunn 🤟
Hell yeah
Livløs - The Crescent King! I just cant get enough of this record
Thank you Extreme Metal guys!
It's what we do, Forgemate!!
Cemetery Skyline is easily one of the best releases this year for me. When Silence Speaks is absolutely emotionally crushing.
Once again, great show guys! Two of your mentions are going to be on my end of year best albums list. They are "Gaerea - Coma" and "Iotunn - Kinship", two awesome killer albums. Psychonaut4 !!!
I've been following Gaerea since their first release. They never disappointed.

Finally someone talking about Cosmic Putrefaction
We have been talking about them for a while and don't get why they're so under rated!!
I've seen Funeral live on a metal festival in my town. They were so good.

Feral - To Usurp the Thrones
I'm probably missing a bunch too. Also, for early November headliner, the new Mitonchondrian album is a MONSTER
Swallow the Sun, Schammasch, Ghostheart Nebula, Ixion.
What a kickass month October has been for metal. Definitely some albums I missed or have to give more spins but here are my favorites of the month.
1. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere (atmospheric death metal/progressive death metal/progressive rock)
2. Cemetery Skyline - Nordic Gothic (gothic rock/deathrock/melodic doom metal)

I have high hopes that the new Immortal Bird album is just a vicious as the last one.
Surprised Ataraxie isn't on here. Funeral doom album of the year for year.
SOOO SLOOOOW AND HEAVY! 😎👌
Great to see Devenial Verdict and Cosmic Putrefaction getting love from a channel. I loved their last albums and love these 2 even more. Here's some awesome albums you might've missed...

Some great stuff in October!!
Cosmic Putrefaction! That album should not fly under the radar. Keep it up, guys!
We agree!
Anytime I need some doom I know this is the place to come
You're always welcome!!
Abhorration deserves a mention. Fucking great first release from the Norwegian guys
You guys gotta jump on Lowen - Do Not Go To War With The Demons Of Mazandaran, it's hands down the best album I heard this year in Doom
That is a fucking rad album!
@ it’s my best discovery this year, I checked the whole album on my channel!
The new Ensiferum record I thought was surprisingly good. Best in a long time.
Loved that one too!! Better than Wintersun.
One that I discovered through Banger TV was Hardwarez from Master Boot Record. Old school video game synth music mixed with heavy metal. Very cool stuff.
MBR has been doing some cool stuff! They're on Metal Blade, which is nuts.
Love you guys, love the show, had to pause halfway through this episode because I found the camera zoom so distracting 😅
That's odd. Hope you're feeling better.
I loved the new Blood Incantation, Gaerea, and Funeral albums. Some more favorite albums of October 2024 of mine would be:
Undeath - More Insane
Chat Pile - Cool World
Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja
Ensiferum - Winter Storm
Immortal Bird - Sin Querencia
Grand Magus - Sunraven
Fit for an Autopsy - The Nothing That Is
Devin Townsend - PowerNerd
Schammasch - The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean
Gigan - Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus
Black Curse - Burning in Celestial Poison
Sentient Horror - In Service of the Dead
DEVENIAL VERDICT! Fuck yeah, no one else talked about it. Deserves attention. Dethcoredoom. Not a lot of that stuff layin around.
COSMIC PUTREFACTION, too! Criminally neglected records this month. LOWEN's new record was also majorly slept on. Even here. Sigh.
LIVING GATE as well...
Also, you should check out Lowen. Great album.
Psychonaut 4
Tribulation
Oct was an amazing month
Fit For An Autopsy - the nothing that is
Blood Incantation - absolute elsewhere
Oranssi Pazuzu - muuntautuja
Gaerea - coma
Lowen - do not go to war with the demons of mazandaran
Entheos - an end to everything (ep)
That funeral album was disappointing to me as it as mostly abandoned funeral doom for the goth and opera singing started to drain me around the halfway mark
What's with that early 2000s metalcore album cover that Funeral has? Lol goddamn
A great month. I think you guys forgot Undeath, it’s ok. We all get forgetful sometimes.
We didn’t. We narrowed down the month to 10.
Yeah, about that Gothic metal list lol. Probably should've waited until after the awesome album from Tribulation.
Next time!
Fantastic list!

@ I’ll definitely spin it. Oh yeah, T.O. is at the top of the class these days
Supercharged by The Offspring
I'll comment my suprise album of October, and of course it's funeral doom.
Mental Tornent : Dead Shot Revival.
Have you guys checked out the new Vokonis?
My favorite metal album of October is Lowen's _Do Not Go To War With the Demons of Manzandaran_
My favorite metal albums of the year so far are Weston Super Maim's _See You Tomorrow Baby_
Blood Incantation
Mother of Graves

Gigan

Gaerea
Oranssi Pazuzu
Tribulation
Swallow the Sun
Maul
Did you listen to the new Psychonaut 4?
Jerk em back to life!! OHHH. 😂
Where is Swallow the Sun-Shining?
Sadly neither of us enjoyed it.
Definitely more polished than any of their other albums. Drumming at times sounds like drum machine. But I still say they are in my top 5 I love the band.
Background comment time. That version of Dead Alive may be the cut one, both US versions are shorter, you gotta get the UK/AUS one. Braindead 104mins.
It’s a never ending collection that’s for sure haha
“Melodious dissonance”???
Dude lol
Weird song previews to show from Coma IMO. Not essential.
Just listen to the music dude
This band cemetery skyline sounds like a copy of the band him . their sound is too soft and commercial and of course cheese and corny.
So don’t listen to it
